I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. TFS Shelveset to be a personal source control

TFS shelve-sets should be more independent.
Also they should be able to use with merge-tools, not just override existing files. Now they are pretty dangerous.

Developers usually have many tasks at once, so it would be nice to use shelve as base for different tasks. Now if I have one task to make big refactoring to many files and another task to clean all unused references, those tasks partly touch the same files and releate to each other and I have problems of canceling one task from shelve.

    Git can do this.

    • Allow a version control tree to be moved under a newly created project

Source tree's once defined can be quite static in structure, however process (and process template) may change dramatically. It would be nice when creating a new project to have it use an existing tree without having to branch.

      • Add the ability to Filter by/Group by Area on the backlog

We use area to group backlog items and it would be very helpful to be able to sort, group, and filter by area on the backlog in the list and board view. In the board view of a backlog item, have a dropdown similar to person on the normal sprint board with other filter options such as area, state, etc

        • make it possible to require a history comment on work item change

In some cases I would like to require a histroy comment for a work item change, e.g. so that it is explained why this work item has been set into removed state.

It is somehow possible today by making another dummy field, but this solution has some disadvances: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/da-DK/tfsprocess/thread/9b672f4c-3054-481a-856d-4da650f25f74

          • Automatic Synchronization of TFS Servers

Automatic Synchronization of TFS Servers. My customer has two separate instances or more of TFS 2010 servers.
Due to security reason, there is no connectivity between the servers. Once a week they need to perform a source control synchronization between the 2 servers, same code base. The current process requires a manual copy of source code from server A to a DVD, then copy the content from the DVD to Server B and vice versa. Needless to say this is a tedious process. They are currently exploring several solutions based on additional research i have provided to them.

            1. TFS…

            • Build agent status notification

Provide a notification mechanism to display the user that the connection to a build agent is not available anymore. Actually, the user has to check explicitly instead of being informed. A solution could be to utlize the build notification services for alerting an unavailable agent if desired.

              • Logging Issue with Multiple AgentScopes on same BuildAgent

I have a custom Build Process, wich does quite a large number of AgentScopes. The agents are detected by matching Tag, so it's possible that one agent is used multiple times.
The problem is: If the Agent is used the second time, the log from the first will be overridden (because its filename differs on the agentId).

May specify the filename in a other Way. Thank you!

                • Allow Checkout Comments while performing a Checkout

I would suggest to add an option where in a user can add description (comments) while performing a checkout in TFS.

While performing a checkout I do not find any such policy or provision wherein a user has been made to enter a checkout comment while he performs checkout operation in TFS.

                  Thanks,

                    • Support localdb for Team Foundation Service unit test runs

It appears that unit tests against a database used to be supported (http://lateralcoding.com/unit-testing-ef-on-microsofts-new-team-foundation-service/), however, it appears that it is no longer.

When I attempt to run a unit test that goes against localdb (e.g. with connection string "Data Source=(localdb)\v11.0; Initial Catalog=MyTest; Integrated Security=True", Team Foundation Service yields the error:

The annotate view for files is very useful for tracking changes to a file over time but it's limited in that you can't filter the changesets that are shown.
When I do a code review for a specific file I want to be able to filter on user and/or changesets that are shown.

Always allow 'Compare' in Pending Changes, for 'branch/edit', 'branch', and 'add' status.

Should compare to branch source for 'branch' and 'branch/edit' status.
Should show 'Compare...' to let user pick source for 'add' status.

The first priority would be support for TFS (where branch relationships could easily be understood by IDE core) but supporting other source control providers would be even better.

                              • Provide filters on the "Found in Build" field when entering a bug in TFS.

The found in build field drop down will show every build ever done in TFS. The list gets so long, that the drop down is effectively useless. Why not have a check box to show builds only done in the last 7 days? Be able to filter on the build version number or date? Also, make it easier to remove builds from the list when the build is deleted.

                                • Add a menu item for Get Latest Version

While looking to a source code, sometimes we need to get latest version from server. If we want to achieve this, we need to go to Solution Explorer and find the appropriate file than right click and select "Get Latest Version".

But i think if there is a menu item in context menu at Source Code View and if i need to get latest version than i can easily right click and select Get Latest Version; so i didn't need to look for the file at Solution Explorer.

This will be good at huge projects

                                  • Support XNA in the Hosted Build Service

Support the XNA Framework on the Hosted Build Service! It's a MS framework, and would allow small game developers to make use of the Hosted Build Service.

                                    • Make the default value for Iteration Path configurable.

I understand the rationale for using the <current> iteration path as the default, as it is often the case that the item applies to the current sprint underway. However, we just as often want to leave it unassigned (perhaps set to @project) so it can be assigned into a future iteration subsequent to review. It would be helpful if the default setting could be configurable, including options for <Current>, @Project, and perhaps blank, so that it has to be deliberately chosen. (I know users can change the value to @Project, for example, but if it's manual it's easy to forget.)

                                      • Move pending changes and check-in buttons

The pending changes 'button' and 'check-in' button are on the same location in the IDE. If you "double click" "Pending changes" by accident, you actually directly check-in your code changes which is not desired.

This can be resolved by moving the location of the check-in button.

Give users the ability to customize the Report View that is generated for a particular Work Item and allow them to export to Excel, Word, or Adobe. The current report that is generated when clicking Report View when you are in a Work Item, is very difficult to read and prints certain text boxes in an XML format. It would be helpful to be able to customize the report that is generated and be able to export it to Microsoft Word to be able to view and print out details of a particular Work Item.
