I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Provide Logical and Mathematical operators to the customization of TFS work Items

As a Process Engineer for a medium sized company I would lie to be able to incorporate Logical operators so I can improve the logic of fields. By adding the “and” or “or” logical operators you will be able to customize fields. The current approach is limits approach to 1 or 2 possibilities.

As a Process engineer for a medium sized company I would like to add mathematical operators to the work item customization so I can add (calculate) fields to populate another field. My particular need is to implement an ROI calculation using Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF).

    • Allow custom controls to be automatically downloaded from the TFS Server

Custom controls were a good idea that was not fully implemented. Because the control has to find its way to the user via a separate route, most people don't want to use them. (It is not worth the risk that a user will not have the control.)

Provide a robust way that custom controls can be registered with the TFS Server and automatically downloaded to clients who need them.

      • Remove orphan build agent directories when a build configuration is deleted.

When a build is ran, it creates a directory on the build agent. If you delete the build, it does not delete the directory that was created on the build servers. If a build is deleted, the corresponding directories should be deleted on the build server.

          • Extend timeline tracking of changesets to span multiple changesets / a time range

The timeline view would be a lot more useful when not only one changeset could be viewed, but the merges between the multiple branches could be shown over a longer period of time.

It could be similar to something like the network graph on github https://github.com/blog/39-say-hello-to-the-network-graph-visualizer or the gitk output https://www.google.com/search?q=gitk&tbm=isch

            • Provide exact branch name for build scripts in TFS build (GIT repository)

I have a TFS2013 CI build definition (GIT repository) which is monitoring branches by wildcard. I need determine in pre-build script what was the exact branch name.

Please, provide exact branch name for build process. Maybe as TF_BUILD environment variable.

              • Allow users to subscribe themselves or others to a work item without having to create an alert

The current suggestion to create an alert for an individual work item is tedious at best, and it is difficult to tell who is "subscribed" to a given work item using this method. It should be possible to view/manage subscribers at the work item detail/edit screen. There should be a control on the work item with a list of "subscribers" that can be updated by anyone (i.e., I can add/remove myself or others). Anyone in the list of subscribers should get an alert on any change. This has been possible in Bugzilla for at least 15 years.

                • Fix the TFS Pending Changes panel so it removes removed files.

I seem to be in a situation where I removed a whole bunch of projects from my solution but the Included Changes still has them listed. The projects were removed and the files deleted, in that order.

The change detection system is out of synch with what I've been doing so when I check in I get "Could not find file" errors.

                  • Improve look & feel of Scrum template for VSO (especially forma the stakeholder)

The layout of the homepage of project create with scrum template in VSO is a little bit chaotic. Keep in mind that in scrum the collaboration with stakeholder is important especially in the review meeting but also during the sprint to show wip FIR get feedback. Stakeholders are also customer that aren't accustomed with UI then if instrument aren't user friendly, collaboration is hard.
So please improve look & feel like other competitor (atlassian, rally, clarizen, versione one, teamwork, ecc...)

                    • Filter conversations in TFS team room

I think you should include filters to make this more useful.

                      Filter on:

                      -User (e.g. messages/replies to me)

                      -Work item id

                      -Date span

More powerful if combined with the possibility to hashtag a conversation and a search function.

                      • Support localdb for Team Foundation Service unit test runs

It appears that unit tests against a database used to be supported (http://lateralcoding.com/unit-testing-ef-on-microsofts-new-team-foundation-service/), however, it appears that it is no longer.

                        • Fail build on insufficient code coverage

Please make it easier to fail the build if the code coverage is lower then a given %.

The community and MS itself focus more and more on the code quality (see the checkin-policies for code-reviews etc.) but a basic indication for failing quality as low code coverage from unittests isn't a trigger to fail a build.

To accomplish this we now have to edit the build-template or create our own build task.

I think this is a relative small efford for MS and a huge help for the community to develop better unit tests and better code.

                          • allow multiple complete state mappings in TFS

In TFS 2012, you were able to map work item complete states (i.e. Product Backlog Items) to more than one state. Your velocity chart values would then be calculated from items that had reached the target complete state.

This allowed us to essentially say a PBI was complete from a development perspective when it had been passed over to QA (since for all intents and purposes that is true).

Now we have to map the complete state to Live only. Since we sometimes have sprints where items may not go live until the next sprint, this is really skewing our…

                            • Add the ability to perform a TFS "Get" operation in the Visual Studio IDE during build as has been available in the past

I provided this in bug 786979 (http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/786979/cannot-perform-a-get-operation-in-vs2012-tfs-when-a-solution-is-building). There is too much hand holding that has been introduced in VS2012--and this is part of it. It makes advanced users less productive. At least provide the ability to dismiss the message once you've seen it once as in earlier versions. I know you can still do this with the command line, but this is annoying if you simply want to get a single file up to date, especially with large solution structures with many files and folders such as we have.

                              • Add a column to queries showing which the "parent" backlog item is

I've created a few queries for finding specific tasks, in certain states, or not assigned etc, but we're currently working with a few backlog items where the subtasks named identically.

Instead of having to rename the subtasks, it would be awesome if it was possible to just have a column show which the "parent" backlog item is. That way we can immediately identify which task is which.

                                • Show in Solution Explorer if a file has changed on TFS server

One annoying thing when you work connected to a TFS server is that the Solution Explorer does not show if a file has been changed on the server and you are not aligned with the latest version.

I suggest to add a special icon to Solution Explorer to highlight this situation, to avoid using Source Control Explorer to check if the Latest field is Yes or No.

Allow me to use one build definition for both checkin build and nightly triggers instead of needing to manage 2 separate ones.

                                    • TFS SharePoint integration - Work item attachments synchronized in SharePoint

The current TFS/SharePoint Integration is only based on a common view of the "document shared" between the TFS Team Portal and the SharePoint Team Site.

But if a document needs to be related to a Work Item: The document should be uploaded in the TFS/SP Shared Documents and a hyperlink should be added. (so the SP version control can be used)

It would be therefore interesting to push forward the integration by:

Req 1) allowing the TFS user to upload a work item attachment directly in the SharePoint Team Site. (browse folders of SharePoint sites)

                                      Req 2) adding a SharePoint…

                                        • Build in an option (command line) in the feedback client to set an area for the feedback response

The feedback client as a tool can only be used for requested feedback and not for voluntary feedback in a situation where access for a reviewer is only given to a sub-area. By default (although no decent error appears so I'm assuming here) it chooses the top area and thus submitting fails.
Allowing a reviewer to choose the area solves this problem. A command line switch would be perfectly suited for it but otherwise the choice should be made when selecting the project for which one wants to submit a voluntary review.
