I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Show in Solution Explorer if a file has changed on TFS server

One annoying thing when you work connected to a TFS server is that the Solution Explorer does not show if a file has been changed on the server and you are not aligned with the latest version.

I suggest to add a special icon to Solution Explorer to highlight this situation, to avoid using Source Control Explorer to check if the Latest field is Yes or No.

        • Automatically associate merged changesets to their original work item so that they can be tracked with "Track Work Items"

Here is the scenario: I code a feature in a feature branch and associate the work item. Later down the rode that feature gets integrated into the main branch prepping for release. If the developer forgets to associate the merge to the original work item, you can't use the "Track Work Item" feature to visualize where that work item ended up in the code base.

I'd like to see something maybe like this:
          http://geekswithblogs.net/jakob/archive/2011/05/17/automatically-merging-work-items-in-tfs-2010.aspx

Support TFS a LOT better. Organize the files better so it is clear what must be checked in to source control, and what can be ignored. It is some help to add !_Pvt_Extensions\;!GeneratedArtifacts\ to the compare filter but there are also several folders under client and server that are left empty and also ModelManifest.xml files under client and server, that are not needed in source control, causing compare noise. It would be nice if the LS project did not create so many scattered files and would be nice if clean would clean out the **** not needed so one knew…

              • Support localdb for Team Foundation Service unit test runs

It appears that unit tests against a database used to be supported (http://lateralcoding.com/unit-testing-ef-on-microsofts-new-team-foundation-service/), however, it appears that it is no longer.

When I attempt to run a unit test that goes against localdb (e.g. with connection string "Data Source=(localdb)\v11.0; Initial Catalog=MyTest; Integrated Security=True", Team Foundation Service yields the error:

Not everybody use Hours in Tasks. I think it'd be nice to use User Story Points, Effort, PBI Points or whatever name you want to represent the measure of the Task, so we can measure the work not in time but in weight.

                    • Make TFS compatible with Claims Based Authentication

We are not able to use the SharePoint integration because our SharePoint site is using Claims Based Authentication. As a result, we cannot access the canned Excel files that come with a template.

Once CBA is turned on for a web site, it cannot be turned off.

We are using TFS 2012 and SharePoint Server 2010.

Keep in mind that in scrum the collaboration with stakeholder is important especially in the review meeting but also during the sprint to show wip FIR get feedback. Stakeholders are also customer that aren't accustomed with UI then if instrument aren't user friendly, collaboration is hard.

                                • Allow build explorer to archive 'drops', retain association between report and drop location.

Team Foundation Build currently has the concept of 'drop folder' - during a successful build, all output files are copied to this location, the build process is not complete until this has happened.
Because of this, our drop folder is on the same physical machine as the working folder, to ensure the build is completed as quickly as possible.
However, we have many, many builds, and would like to 'archive' build output to a network share, and eventually, an offline backup medium.

The actual 'build line entry/report/log' is a matter of kilobytes, so TFS should still be able to list…

                                  • Allow us to query work item hierarchy based on additional link types

Currently it's not possible to query work items with changesets (or all changesets for a specific work item or feature). It's also not possible to query which test cases are part of which test suite.

This seems logical as these items aren't stored in the work item catalog, but they're very useful for quality checks of the work items store.

I'd be happy if it were possible to query the existence of any changesets or test suites, but it would be even cooler if you'd be able to query the properties of these as well.

                                    • Support building with licensed components (license.licx) in TfsPreview

We have a project hosted on TfsPreview that uses Syncfusion. We can't build it on the build-server because we can't register the relevant component.
I suggest you expose a way one can register a licensed component. It can be, for example a method of editing a pseudo registry key that is only active during build, or you can provide with a set of well-known licensed libraries (for example - "Add Licensed Component" -> "Syncusion" -> "v5.0" -> "Enter key")

                                        • Allow organizing/grouping git repositories in a team project

The ability to host multiple git repositories in a single team project was essential to get uptake of git as a source control option for larger teams.

But with this comes organizing those repositories.

We need a way to be able group git repositories perhaps through some sort of virtual folder structure (like adding solution folders) to help navigation when a large amount of git repositories exist in a single team project.
