NEW! Announcing Limited Preview for Visual Studio Online Code Search

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. provide a dashboard at web access welcome page to visualize multiple team projects at same time

It would be very usefull to see multiple team projects information at a single dashboard.

We have been using the multiple team projects approach, recommended when you have some specific necessities. But as a portfolio
manager I would like to see those projects sprints in a unique page, and I think that would be simple to manage and control those team projects.

    • Provide Logical and Mathematical operators to the customization of TFS work Items

As a Process Engineer for a medium sized company I would lie to be able to incorporate Logical operators so I can improve the logic of fields. By adding the “and” or “or” logical operators you will be able to customize fields. The current approach is limits approach to 1 or 2 possibilities.

As a Process engineer for a medium sized company I would like to add mathematical operators to the work item customization so I can add (calculate) fields to populate another field. My particular need is to implement an ROI calculation using Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF).

      • TFS Add a comment field or Work Item to check-out .

Add a comment field and/or Work Item to check-out .
You cannot see for what reason a file has been checked out. It makes it impossible to find out what a users has check a file out for.
You can only see after the file has been checked in what the reason that change was made

        • More flexibilty on the <WHEN> Field child element

Especially to support adding conditions based on the hierarchical value of the Area Path, please add the ability to specify a begins with or wildcard comparison to the <WHEN> conditional field element. Currently it support only "equals" comparisons to the specified value. This could be done by specifying an operator attribute with various comparison operators. This would be helpful if being used against numeric fields too (e.g. GT, LT, etc).

          • store and download check-in policies

check-in policies should be stored and downloaded from the TFS server.
currently, custom policies must be installed on EVERY developer machine, or suffer the wrath of error messages. If stored on the server, VS could auto-update (a la clickonce) during checkin.

              • When comparing files, make it easier to filter out changes that are just renames or formatting

When I get a code review request from another developer, I would like to only see "real" changes that actually change the meaning of the code. In the review requests I get, most of the changes are just renames of variables or a different formatting (whitespace, moving braces, ...). It's really difficult to detect the "real" changes to the code that actually cahnge the behavior between all the noise that's caused by other changes like renames.

                • Remove orphan build agent directories when a build configuration is deleted.

When a build is ran, it creates a directory on the build agent. If you delete the build, it does not delete the directory that was created on the build servers. If a build is deleted, the corresponding directories should be deleted on the build server.

                  • Canonicalize .sln and .*proj Files.

Since Visual Studio doesn't have a canonical format for .sln files and .csproj files, the merge process can be a real pain when dealing with added / removed files or projects.

If a canonical ordering for .sln files were devised, merge pain could be almost entirely eliminated. NuGet does this to great effect with the package.config files.

It would be great if the rest of VS could follow suit.

much like codeplex does : the server is a real git server, there is no need to use additional commands such as git-tf as pointed here : http://tfs.visualstudio.com/en-us/learn/code/use-git-and-vs-with-tfs/

Hi, I haven't noticed this limitation before in web access 2012.2 (yes i'm still on .2) but earlier today I wanted to use built in functionality to resolve a user request, the user wanted to link work items in the quickest way but did not have/need or want team explorer installed on their machine preferring to manage their work items purely using web access. The web access dialog for linking work items does not currently have the capability to browse for work items (for example by reusing an existing query). I did not realize that this functionality differs between the…

                                Hi,
in our TeamProject we have several teams that work in parallel and therefore also have different iterations/sprint dates. The TeamProjectOverview site in WebAccess only shows Backlog and Burndown of the first started iteration, but our managers would like to have all current iterations.
                                Kind regards,

                                  • Organize work items in a visual / Pivot Like manner on different (custom) dimensions

Different groups in the organization want to organize work items in a different fashion. For example Product Managers want to organize work items on releases, Scrum Champions on different Scrum teams, Scrum Masters on Iterations, Team Members on Priority, Testers on Triage, Project Managers on Assigned To etc. etc.

It would be great if you could create some kind of pivot tool where you select a multi-value work item field (ALLOWED VALUES). The different values are then shown in swimming lanes. On the left side you can then create a work item query that gives you all the work items…

                                    • TFS Export Changesets to (.xls, .doc, .txt, .html ...)

If you open the menu item File->Source Control->Find In Source Control->Changesets... (you must be in Source Control Explorer for this to be available). This will open the Find Changesets dialog. You can then search for change sets by date on a given source folder but not have any button for export result in dialogs.

Please make additinal export button in dialog that I attach here.

                                      • Indicate Bug cards on task board by using a different color.

It would be great if the task Board in Visual Studio Online could simply support a different color scheme for Bug "stories" so that we could tell at a glance which items on the board are Bugs and which are PBIs.

It wouldn't even require changing the task card colors, just make the text for the Bug "story" red or use a red background, etc.

                                        • Ability to customize build templates and run locally

Currently, in order to autor/customize a build template you have to check in the XAML file with small changes, test it by queuing a new build, and then re-do until you finish implementing all the changes.
This process is very tedious and time consuming (and the TFS changeset history you end up creating is not really nice either).

I'd like the ability to author the XAML file and run it locally (and potentially debug easily too). Once I finish doing all the changes, then I can check-in the updates.
