I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Support localdb for Team Foundation Service unit test runs

It appears that unit tests against a database used to be supported (http://lateralcoding.com/unit-testing-ef-on-microsofts-new-team-foundation-service/), however, it appears that it is no longer.

When I attempt to run a unit test that goes against localdb (e.g. with connection string "Data Source=(localdb)\v11.0; Initial Catalog=MyTest; Integrated Security=True", Team Foundation Service yields the error:

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. • Fail build on insufficient code coverage

Please make it easier to fail the build if the code coverage is lower then a given %.

The community and MS itself focus more and more on the code quality (see the checkin-policies for code-reviews etc.) but a basic indication for failing quality as low code coverage from unittests isn't a trigger to fail a build.

To accomplish this we now have to edit the build-template or create our own build task.

I think this is a relative small efford for MS and a huge help for the community to develop better unit tests and better code.

      • allow multiple complete state mappings in TFS

In TFS 2012, you were able to map work item complete states (i.e. Product Backlog Items) to more than one state. Your velocity chart values would then be calculated from items that had reached the target complete state.

This allowed us to essentially say a PBI was complete from a development perspective when it had been passed over to QA (since for all intents and purposes that is true).

Now we have to map the complete state to Live only. Since we sometimes have sprints where items may not go live until the next sprint, this is really skewing our…

        • Add the ability to perform a TFS "Get" operation in the Visual Studio IDE during build as has been available in the past

I provided this in bug 786979 (http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/786979/cannot-perform-a-get-operation-in-vs2012-tfs-when-a-solution-is-building). There is too much hand holding that has been introduced in VS2012--and this is part of it. It makes advanced users less productive. At least provide the ability to dismiss the message once you've seen it once as in earlier versions. I know you can still do this with the command line, but this is annoying if you simply want to get a single file up to date, especially with large solution structures with many files and folders such as we have.

          • Notify owner/reviewers when a new comment is added to a Git pull request

Currently (TFS 2013.4) alert emails are not sent when a reviewer adds a comment to a Git pull request. This can result in comments being missed by the pull request owner. Ideally comment alerts would be batched so that users involved in a pull request get fewer separate notifications.

            • Add a column to queries showing which the "parent" backlog item is

I've created a few queries for finding specific tasks, in certain states, or not assigned etc, but we're currently working with a few backlog items where the subtasks named identically.

Instead of having to rename the subtasks, it would be awesome if it was possible to just have a column show which the "parent" backlog item is. That way we can immediately identify which task is which.

              • Show in Solution Explorer if a file has changed on TFS server

One annoying thing when you work connected to a TFS server is that the Solution Explorer does not show if a file has been changed on the server and you are not aligned with the latest version.

I suggest to add a special icon to Solution Explorer to highlight this situation, to avoid using Source Control Explorer to check if the Latest field is Yes or No.

                  • Add trend chart support for tag-based queries

Trend charts are really useful to track progress against backlogs and bug counts on the home page. It would be great to extend this functionality so trend charts could be built based on tagged work items, for instance to show an overall trend of technical debt stories in a product. Currently when this is attempted the chart pane contains the error message: "Work item trend charts do not support queries conditional on Tag state"

                        • Build in an option (command line) in the feedback client to set an area for the feedback response

The feedback client as a tool can only be used for requested feedback and not for voluntary feedback in a situation where access for a reviewer is only given to a sub-area. By default (although no decent error appears so I'm assuming here) it chooses the top area and thus submitting fails.
Allowing a reviewer to choose the area solves this problem. A command line switch would be perfectly suited for it but otherwise the choice should be made when selecting the project for which one wants to submit a voluntary review.

Support TFS a LOT better. Organize the files better so it is clear what must be checked in to source control, and what can be ignored. It is some help to add !_Pvt_Extensions\;!GeneratedArtifacts\ to the compare filter but there are also several folders under client and server that are left empty and also ModelManifest.xml files under client and server, that are not needed in source control, causing compare noise. It would be nice if the LS project did not create so many scattered files and would be nice if clean would clean out the **** not needed so one knew…

We are not able to use the SharePoint integration because our SharePoint site is using Claims Based Authentication. As a result, we cannot access the canned Excel files that come with a template.

Once CBA is turned on for a web site, it cannot be turned off.

We are using TFS 2012 and SharePoint Server 2010.

Add a comment field and/or Work Item to check-out .
You cannot see for what reason a file has been checked out. It makes it impossible to find out what a users has check a file out for.
You can only see after the file has been checked in what the reason that change was made
