I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Add full intellisense experience to T4 template editing without an extension

It would be so much easier to work with T4 templates if we had the full intellisense experience. It's already really difficult to create code that generates code (my brain hurts sometimes) but without the rich editing experience that is normally available in VS is much much harder.

I'm aware that there are extensions available but I'd rather not have to pay extra (and rely on a third party) to use the features that already exist in VS.

    • Allow "Compare working copy to historical version" version in TFS GIT 2015

Allow "Compare working copy to historical version" version in TFS GIT 2015

      http://stackoverflow.com/q/34123687/30225

When I pull up the history of the file I can compare that version with another version listed in the history by selecting both and doing a "Compare", or I can compare a historical version and its changes wrt to its previous version by selecting "Compare to Previous".
However, there isn’t a command that will let me compare a historical version in the history list to the currently edited version on disk.
This was one of the best features of TFSVC and I would be good to…

      • Add a table-of-content-window listing all procedures and other items of the current code file.

The content should be similar to what is available in the drop-down lists at the top of the C# editor, but it should be in a window docked to the side of the IDE.
There should be some sorting and grouping options.
The CodeMaid add-in is doing it right, but such basic functionality should be a standard part of VS, so it is also available for the Express editions.

        • Create a way to set global IDE settings for a development team

The idea is for a development team to be able to sync their IDE settings to a global, master settings configuration.

For example, a master configuration for how Code Formatting should work (e.g. Tools -> Options -> C# -> Whitespace formatting) and then each member in a VSO team could then sync with that master configuration.

This would help teams stay in sync with code conventions, etc.

          • Ability to close the solution from a context menu on the solution file in the Solution Explorer

To close a solution, you have to go to File -> Close Solution. I do most of my work in the Solution Explorer already, so being able to close the solution on the context menu when right-clicking on the solution file within the Solution Explorer would be nice.

            • Show count of selected characters

In Visual Studio, at the bottom, there's "Ln" and "Col" to show the location of the cursor according to line and column.

Add another bit of info in the same place, which shows how many characters are selected in the editor. Very useful when debugging.

                • A way to remove the default blue box Adorner when editing WPF Controls at Design-Time

As I wrote on this post:

                  http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/de3211d5-ce18-4275-a555-f8c168c34c35/how-to-disable-default-design-time-adorner?forum=visualstudiogeneral

would be useful to remove the defalut blue box Design-Time adorner so that a user can provide it own Design-Time adorner with its custom appearance on a custom WPF Control.

                  • Visual Studio: Add Namespace property to project folders

Allow setting a namespace to the project folders so that developers can organize code by namespace better. Namespace name can be different than project folder name. This allows us to organize folders better without a creating a new namespace when needed. The Visual Studio IDE automatically adds the newly added files to a folder with the namespace of the folder, and we have to edit the code and remove the namespace as we want it to be in a diferent namespace and vice versa.

                    • Display a red dot on VS icon when there are unsaved changes

Project changes are easy to forget to save. Adding new files for example, does not automatically save the project, so unless you press "save all", when you commit into source control (i'm not talking about integrated source control) then the project file is missed.

This is the reason things like this exist:
                      https://github.com/xpaulbettsx/saveallthetime

How about a simple red dot on the VS icon in the taskbar when there are unsaved changes? Use the same red dot that is used in the files tab.

                      • Enable Roslyn-Powered Data ASTs and Data Views

This vote is for developers who support the idea of Roslyn-Powered Data ASTs and Data Views. Data Views are a conceptual improvement to the way Visual Studio presents data files to a developer, and how a developer works with that data. Data Views are powered by Data ASTs, which are ASTs (abstract syntax trees) that describe data in much the same way that code-based ASTs describe code.

Data ASTs and the Data Views that they enable allow teams to pick a data format to use in their project, while enabling individual developers within the team to view the data in…

                        • Don't use IE exclusively as the internal browser, but instead use the OS configured default browser

I can't use VS anymore because my organization blocks IE. We can't access anything externally with IE except for approved exceptional situations. They don't block Chrome and FireFox. Visual Studio 2015 (and also earlier versions) appear to use IE internally to sign in to VSO, display help, download packages, etc. Third party extensions such as Telerik's AppStudio do the same (probably by default). I can't figure out a way to change this default behavior.

Whenever I try to access anything from IE, I can see the HTTP traffic in Wireshark. Lot's of "M-SEARCH"s and "GET"s. Eventually, it fails with "HTTP/X.X…

I suggest you to make VS and empty IDE which I can download languages in it instead of making many softwares (EG: VB, VC#) which the size of each on 250/300 MB and it is almost the same and the difference between it is the language which I'll use in each software.

                            • Paste escaped string / paste escaped verbatim string

When you need to copy and paste some XML, string, or other data into the editor as a string it is extremely annoying as you then have to go and manually escape it.

There should be a "Paste Special" with options to paste as a "normal" C# string or as a "verbatim" C# string. This would make this common task much easier.

                              • Exclude an entire folder/files when publishing a web site

In my project I have a lot of SASS/LESS/COFFEE files that should not be published to my production web server. It would be great if I could specify (at least in my Publish Profile .pubxml file) what folders (or even files) should be excluded from publishing. Adding a wildcard support would be a plus, for example if someone wants to exclude all *.scss/*.less/*.coffee/*.txt files from the build.

                                • Add super-compact style for CSS formatting.

Currently the minimalist formatting option is compact, which isn't truly the most compact. The rule is:
                                  div_{_display:_block;height:_auto;_}

                                  Super compact would be:

                                  div_{display:block;height:auto;}

All of the extra white space makes it ****** for me to read since everything is already color coded in the editor. Plus it gives a performance buff by removing excess white space.

                                  • Different icon for project reference and assembly reference

Would be nice to easily differentiate a project reference to an assembly reference by changing the icon under a projects references.

                                    • Object Browser window honor the IDE profile language

If I don't have any project opened in the Solution Explorer, the Object Browser window will show information in C# syntax. This is very inconvenient for non-C# developers.

I'd suggest that if I choose the IDE profile as C++ developer, for example, the Object Browser window should honor that and show classes/functions in C++ syntax.

                                      • Middle mouse button click on word for go to definition (like F12)

If I could click with the middle mouse button when the mouse is on a type or method or anything, then the same should happen if i right click on it and select go to definition or if im pressing F12.

This way I could navigate through the code jusing the mouse only! (Navigate backward and forward already works with the two extra buttons (mouse button 4 and 5 on the side of the mouse)) (Would be faster than searching for the F12, escpecially in case of laptops for example, because I have to look on the keyboard to see…

                                        • Share all comments in Task List for VC++ projects

It works well for C# projects in the same solution, but it doesn't work for VC++ projects, I mean that it doesn’t share all comments in default in Task List window for VC++ app if you add them in different project files in the same solution.
