I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

  1. Create a Framework for driving realistic load against SQL Server

I have a framework for driving unit tests directly against SQL server (similar to the original SQL Load Testing project by Rob Jarrett) but with many enhanced features. The tool is already being used for engagement within the Testing Services and Labs, but the tool needs a full team effort to take it to the next level. Some high level info is below and some more in the two attached documents.

    SqlUT Framework Overview:
    * The testing engine sits inside of a Visual Studio Unit Test and takes advantage of the ability to feed data sources, test contexts, use timers…

    • Create practical guidance on Agile Portfolio Management with TFS 2013 and beyond.

Create focused and "crisp" guidance around agile portfoilio management, team projects and teams, to complement the TFS Planning Guide (www.vsarplanningguide.codeplex.com) and capturing dogfood findings by the ALM Rangers and from the field.

      • Cloud Load Test, Application Insights and Windows Azure - Better Together Guidance

I would like to provide a guide to answer two simple questions:

        1) Does my application support *** users?
        2) If not, what do I have to do?

We could create a guide teaching how to combine Cloud Load Test, Application Insights and Windows Azure in order to show how to answer these questions.
        • What scenarios should I consider for my Load Test?
        • How many agents do I need? How to know if the agents are over capacity?
        • How to distribute the user load?
        • All my requests returned HTTP 200. Is it good? Cache / CDN…

        • Practical guidance for customers around ALM for SharePoint application development

I (Eric Charran) think we have an opportunity to put together some really good guidance for customers around ALM for SharePoint application development like we did back in 2007. What I think we need to address are questions around the following:

          1. How do I do a daily build, deployment and test for a provider/auto-hosted (Azure) application (CI)?
          2. How do I do a daily build and test and code management for napa applications in O365?
          3. How can I do unit, systems, integration testing across service boundaries, interfaces and cloud boundaries?

          • Even more build guidance

I think we should enhance the guidance covering more areas like:
            - incremental builds
            - hints on relations between builds and branches
            - packaging vs deploy
            - using LabMan for deploy
            - build chaining

            • As a TFS Administrator, I would like to extract permission reports to audit purposes

This is a common request, mainly in Banks, Government and large corporations with audit sector. Often I'm asked how to extract reports showing TFS Users and what access level they have.

              Something like:

              User: Andre Dias
              Access to:
Project Level -> Delete team project, View project-level information
Build Level -> Administer build permissions, Edit build quality
Version Control -> Check out, Check in

A access level matrix would be fantastic.

              • SQL Server Development Tools - Best practice guidance

While most of the areas of the declarative essence of the Visual Studio Database Projects VSDB still holds true, it is deprecated and will be followed with the new development Tools of SQL Server Development Tools (SSDT).

Since the beginning of the VSDB guidance, many features were added to the toolset, allowing to develop, configure and deploy to various environments coverig as well on-premise as cloud based systems.

With the new guidance people will get the experience and best practices following the principles:

                - Lead with Cloud
                - Configure before Customize
                - Solutions not Products

                  • Work Item "Baselining"

This is another very common request, where the customer would like to create a baseline for a set of work items (requirements) and to be able to view the state of these work items in the future.

Using Work Item Queries and Work Item History, we could develop a plugin to generate a baseline based on Work Item Query.

The idea is selecting a Work Item Query, click on the Generate Baseline option, then a new WIT "Baseline" is created with related work items in the query. We could also save the value of the Rev field for each link.

                    • Custom UI controls for custom applications that interact with TFS

Based on a discussion on the ALM Champs list and ALM Rangers Forums:

                      I’d love control(s) that:
                      - Allows me to pick files and/or folders from TFVC and/or Git
                      - Allows me to configure and save a ACL for an object of my choosing (akin to the Team Administrator ACL)
                      - Allows me to select a Build (output)
                      - Allows me to select tests to run (akin to the automation… window)
                      - Allows me to pick one or more area’s/iterations
                      - Allows me to pick one or more teams
                      - Check-in UI
                      - etc

These would allow others to easily…

                      • Using DSC, bring the Virtual Machines into the ALM lifecycle.

Using DSC as a VM "definition language", develop the process that Will allow the VMs to be generated as part of the buld process. This Will allow maintenance teams to generate development VMs on request, as well as test environments to be generated and integrated with the Test Management tooling.

Enhance the v2 ALM Readiness Treasure Map and consider a v3 to implement features mentioned as vNext in http://blogs.msdn.com/b/willy-peter_schaub/archive/2013/08/03/alm-readiness-treasure-map-v2-1-and-vnext-feature-triage.aspx. If you feel that the team should continue its showcase, readiness and dog-fooding project then donate your vote(s) to this idea.
