Add some color to Visual Studio 2012
Usability studies have shown that both shape and color help to distinguis visual elements in a UI. The upcoming/current beta release of Visual Studio 2011 has removed color from the toolbars and from icons in e.g. the Solution Explorer.
Please make this optional so those of us that want a more accessible and user friendly IDE can have their cake and eat it too.
13,040 votesHi folks,
Take a look at the VS 2012 Color Theme Editor – it is an option for creating and editing your own Visual Studio themes.

Bring Back Full-Color Icons to Visual Studio 2012
The mostly black & gray glyphs used in Visual Studio 2012 are very difficult to distinguish between. Familiar icons that we have known and used for years are now gone, and it takes (wastes!) a ton of time trying to find the right icon/command/object. Please bring back the tried-and-true, full-color icons that clearly represent each command/object and are easily identifiable.

Bring back the "VISUAL" in visual studio
Visual studio used to have a kick *** interface. However, everything about the 2012 interface looks.. amateurish.
-The icon looks like something a 3 year old did.
-The lack of depth makes the whole thing jump into my face.
-The upper cased menus are screaming at me (try posting on a forum in all caps... see what the response is).
In a nutshell, whoever designed the interface needs to go back to the grade school I'm sure they dropped out of and finish their education. Maybe get a job at a fast food place running a cash register... Because they…

change the new 2012 bowtie icon back to the smooth style
The sharp-edged icon that came with the Visual Studio 2012 RC is hard to look at, and looks more like a bowtie than an infinity symbol. Please return it to its former glory before releasing RTM.

Incorporate the ribbon and ditch the toolbars!
Is there any other app that has an incredible amount of commands that would benefit more from a results-driven UI? I think incorporating the ribbon is a no brainer!

Allow humans to differentiate between files and folders in VS2012
The icons in the Solution Explorer has a very important purpose and function. And I'm (along with half of the world, it seems) not very pleased to see that this UX functionality was abandoned during this recent redesign.
The ability to differentiate files from folders.
This is the most important information that those icons has to provide the user with. By far. And there are three facts that prevents the "Hey, I'm a folder"-information from getting to the user:
1) The icon shape does not look like a classic folder (although an esoteric, modern one)
2) The icon is black…123 votes -
Make Setting up Theme Colors Easier
I like to use a dark background when I program, but sometimes the foreground colors get difficult to read. So, I go into the Colors Settings but there are a million things in there and figuring out which one to tweak is a long process.
I'd love to be able to highlight the piece of text that is showing up brown and right-click on it and be able to go straight to the color setting that is making it that color. Or show the three settings that are affecting that text's color....
Right now, it is too hard and makes…

Better Theme / Styling support
As the feedback to the VS11 beta screenshots demonstrated, many developers are passionate about the feel of the IDE they use. It is probably a given that no one style will make everybody happy.
However, there's a solution - allow loadable, shareable themes. While VS2010 has this to some extent with the theme editor addin, there are many aspects of the UI that are not stylable.
The UI for VisualStudio should support alterations to all visual aspects through some method. While support for theme creating, editing, importing, and exporting would be appreciated, full themability exposed via an API would allow…

Visual Studio 2012 Theme is Terrible!
I realize that you're trying to make VS 2012 look flatter like Windows 8 (metro), but it's now so flat that you can barely tell where one tool pallet ends and the other begins. The light theme is too light, and the dark theme is too dark.
Maybe take a look at XCode for inspiration, it's a dream to use in comparison. (I use both daily)

Soften Typography
I attached a file with a mockup of what I'm describing in this suggestion.
In the image I mocked up the Solution Explorer.
- Title: lowercase
- Title: Segoe UI Light
- Title: gray, lower contrast (means you don't have to focus on the fact that it's the Solution Explorer). Take it for granted at some point, and let it relax into the background.- Window Background is the same dark gray as everywhere else. This lets the files in the solution pop a bit more, but in a nice minimalist way. This also creates a lot of breathable space…

Allow auto-layout in ADO.Net Entity Model Designer to be disabled
Much as I love ADO.Net Entity Data Model Designer (VS2010), one feature is making me INSANE.
When initially putting together a complex data model, it's perfectly fine (and desirable) that Designer figures out on its own where the lines delineating associations are placed. However, eventually, I wind up meticulously placing those lines myself for the sake of readability.
But if I finish my painstaking layout, and then decide to, say, add a property to an existing entity, Designer redoes my entire layout, or at least every association line that leads to or from that entity.
It's the definition of frustrating.…

Provide Logical and Mathematical operators to the customization of TFS work Items
As a Process Engineer for a medium sized company I would lie to be able to incorporate Logical operators so I can improve the logic of fields. By adding the “and” or “or” logical operators you will be able to customize fields. The current approach is limits approach to 1 or 2 possibilities.
As a Process engineer for a medium sized company I would like to add mathematical operators to the work item customization so I can add (calculate) fields to populate another field. My particular need is to implement an ROI calculation using Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF).

Bring back a 1980s theme to the IDE, similar to Turbo C with UPPERCASE menus and monocolour icons.
The theme in the IDE for VS2010 is so modern it looks terrible. What I really want is a theme similar to Borland Turbo C. ALL UPPERCASE MENUS, no depth to anything, and monocolour icons. I want to feel like I am back in the DOS console. Take me back Microsoft, your C++ conformance does so why not the IDE.

Change "High Contrast" VS 2011 Theme at least like "Purple" in VS2010
I Don't like 'black and white' in VS2011 IDE, it's make the 'eyeglass man' confused to read.
1.The text is Black
2.The background is silver/white
Where's about yellow? where's about green?I Think the VS2011 Developer Preview it's better than VS2011 BETA, at least the rollback into VS2010 IDE Theme, it's look better for IDE.

Colored backgrounds for selected code blocks.
It would be helpful for the coder to be able to color the background for blocks of code. Helps code navigation A LOT.

Proposition to change the logo
The current logo is not very nice. I understand the metro style switch but the 2003 style could have been revamped to fit the metro style, like the one I made (See attached).
