  1. Support capturing traffic from .Net HttpClient and WebClient API in VS 2015 Network Panel

Capturing Network traffic is really nice idea. But currently it supports only WinRT HttpClient APIs. For ASP.NET & WPF dev this's not at all useful :(

Please add support for capturing traffic from .Net HttpClient and WebClient API as well.

    Thanks.

    • Please provide exporting the Code Analysis report to excel in Visual Studio

Please provide feature to export the Code Analysis report to Excel in Visual Studio. This feature was available in Visual Studio 2010. The feature was very useful for managing, planning and reporting of code analysis issues.

      • automatically track down memory leaks at the end of the application

        Vertex

it would be nice to automatically track down memory leaks at the end of the application (like in the output window of my native MFC application). Someone can set a breakpoint manually at the "end of an application" and when hit, take a snapshot. But an automatic (with disable option) snapshot at the end of the application would be nice. The question arises, where is the correct end at which I want to have my snapshot. In a MFC/CRT application I would trigger the last snapshot at the time the MFC/CRT memory leak thing tracks the leaks down. I…

          • Profiler - Start on Breakpoint, Stop on Breakpoint

Add a "When Hit" breakpoint option to start or stop the profiler. This is a common action. When our dev team was reviewing some profiler results we discussed that this is something that would be quite useful as typically only a section of code or action would need to be profiled. One could set start and stop breakpoints and we would only get a profile of the execution between these breakpoints. Note the breakpoint would not "stop" execution, just perform an action. Currently we often do this manually, over and over during a profiler session.

            • Take memory usage snapshots at specific points

              Mats Taraldsvik

Another useful feature (if not already present) would be to take snapshots at specific points in the program without actually stopping the execution of the program. (E.g. every time the program returns to the main menu I want a snapshot, and after exhausting all the menu items, I want to stop the program and look for snapshots with memory leaks)

Conditionally taking a snapshot automatically at a specific point in the program, for example if the memory usage has increased. (In my example over, this would only take a snapshot if there was a memory leak)

              • Debugger Integrated Memory Usage Tool should support the C++/CLI flavor of mixed mode debugging

                From customer comment on http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visualstudioalm/archive/2014/11/13/memory-usage-tool-while-debugging-in-visual-studio-2015.aspx#10577484:
unusable for Mixed Mode debugging. Our C++/CLI code could use this.

Our comment: while this doesn’t support the C++/CLI flavor of mixed mode debugging -- because C++/CLI uses the legacy managed debug engine -- we do support mixed mode debugging with standard managed and C++ projects using, for example, P/Invoke interop. In the latter case, if your debug engine is set to mixed mode (as covered in the Simplified Mode Selection section above), we will show you the details for both heaps.

Refer to Rico Mariani's MSDN Blog article for details on what would be a very simple to do value add for performance analysis of applications.

                  • Performance profiler: automatic instrumentation

To use instrumentation for signed projects, you must manually call sn.exe in a post instrumentation step and provide the full filename to the key file and the dll. This is very tedious and error prone when you have many projects in your solution.

Please automate this step, the project includes all necessary information.

In addition, enable the same macros that are available for projects, e.g. $(ProjectDir).

Currently it doesn't work on Windows 8 and above.

                      • Profiling unit tests should ignore code running from init methods (AssemblyInitialize, TestInitialize, etc)

The "Profile Test" option offered in the VS Test Explorer is cute, but doesn't offer enough flexibility.

The problem is that there may be a significant amount of work being done in init methods (i.e. methods decorated with AssemblyInitialize, ClassInitialize or TestInitialize attributes), and the code running there does not constitute the unit test, and so should not be profiled.

Only the code running in the selected test method should be profiled - otherwise the results are significantly skewed, and rarely usable.

                          • Color Code PerfTips by Threshold

                            From Tarun Arora:
I would like to colour code the PerfTips, I see numbers all the time and after a while stop paying attention. However, if I could set a threshold & colour code the threshold, it would be easier to identify what requires attention.

                              • Profiler: make profiling a multithreaded process easier

It is very hard and not intuitive to profile multithreading issues in current Profiler (sampling). Although in 2011, there is a ThreadId filter, but I cannot effectively determine which function belongs to which thread, therefore I have to guess. These two possibilities would be great:

                                1. Show thread id additinally and name (Main, etc.) to all other tabs (Functions, Modules, etc.)
                                2. Show more concurrency-related information (see Intel's Profiler)

                                  • Stop having Code Analysis window take focus during builds

When building a solution, the Code Analysis window/tab always gets focus during a build. This is highly disruptive, as I often modify code during builds, and when this window pops up as I am typing, it screws up what I was working on. Furthermore, it's just plain annoying (particularly when it is docked in the same panel as the Solution tab.

                                    • C++ memory profiling

To see what is currently comsuming a memory in a native C++ application we have to either use a console and a Windows Driver kit (umdh.exe, read https://nvharikrishna.wordpress.com/2012/07/11/umdh-a-simple-tool-for-memory-leak-detection-in-windows/ ) or a third-party tool. It would be nice to see the data directly from Visual Studio, with View Source for each allocation, with a comparison with the last snapshot etc. For memory leaks I can just exit the application and see the debug output, but to see what is consuming the memory at a specific time the VS does nothing. Please add a support for doing this directly from the Visual…

                                      • Provide profiling tools for Javascript

Provide a utility to profile JavaScript files to determine slow performing functions, highlight slow functions and make suggestions on how to improve them and resources that are not cleaned up.

                                        • Create a program, to be used by command line, on TFS and Visual Studio, for code clone analysis.

Like FxCop, in order to make a code coverage analysis, for our projects, it's also required to make a code clone analysis. I know that it's possible on Visual Studio IDE, but for Agile projects, it's more powerful by command line.
