      • Make data accessible via APIs for custom processing

        Application Insights sounds cool but I can't imagine having all my data locked up behind a portal without an ability to programmatically access it or at least download it for offline processing. I'm sure the portal is awesome but I'm also sure that there will be project-specific types of insight I need to get out of this data which the portal won't sufficiently support. Making data accessible outside the portal lets you get around that concern while continuing to improve the product.

        • Distinguish Applications by a user defined Environment

          Right now, Application Insights seems to only distinguish between the Debug and Release version of an application. At my company. we have several "downstream" environments DEV/MAIN/QA/POST that an application might run in before it is deployed to production. In the QA and POST environment, the application will run the Release version of the code.

          So, I would like to see a way where I can record the Environment an application is running in. Preferably it would be something in the web.config so the correct value can be set at deployment time.

          The dashboard would let me either look at results…

          • Add support for Intranet application testing (not just via Internet). E.g., via NTLM

            App Insights works great for externally-facing applications. Would like the same rich experience for Internal/Intranet applications.

            • Please add support for Azure Websites performance monitoring with Application Insights

              Application Insights doesn't support server performance monitoring in Azure Websites (only Cloud Service and Virtual Machine) It would be nice if the tiles are also available in the new Azure Portal.

                    • Application Insights - Implement SDK as Portable Class Libs - Support Xamarin IOS / Android / WinPhone Silverlight / WinRT / WPF

                      It would seem that AppInsights client side SDK should be a PCL. This would greatly extend the reach.
                      Basically, in this day and age, any app developer must write for all mobile platforms - WinPhone, IOS, Android, WinRT. Xamarin has proven the viability of PCL, and with great frameworks like MVVMCross (also a PCL) . Why MS is still building frameworks like AI that are not implemented as PCL is beyond me.

                              • Time statistics from timedEvent does not appear on Application Insights dashboard

                                We use the Application Insight SDK to take some metrics from our code.
                                So we have the abbility to use Timed Events to get some metrics on our code. When we look the statistics on the dashboard we dont see the statistics about the time metric.

                                For example when we write a code like this

                                public IEnumerable<CSMenu> GetSiteMenus() {
                                var timedEvent = ServerAnalytics.CurrentRequest
                                .StartTimedEvent("WebApi/GetSiteMenus");

                                IEnumerable<CSMenu> menu = CSMenu.Simplify(db.MultiLingual.OfType<Menu>().Where(m => m.ParentId == null && m.Active).OrderBy(m => m.Ordinal));

                                timedEvent.End();

                                return menu;
                                }

                                We are expecting to see in detail information about the time that this method spend to return data.

                                This information…

                                  Would be great to see application insight associated to the project and get the identities there, so team members get scoped access and content.

                                  • Enabling monitoring of WCF Services at Contract level by Adding just attributes.

                                    Our business is mainly on customer facing services (WCF REST APIs)
                                    It will be nice to enable the usage monitoring at service contract level by simply adding an Attribute to Operation Contracts.

                                    • Add support for calculated metrics to App Insights

                                      I would like the ability to combine two metrics in a third, calculated metric. For example, I might want to create a "Custom Error Percentage" metric that divides custom errors per second by requests per second. I could then alert off an error metric that has been normalized for scale instead of one that's specifically tied to RPS.

                                      • Allow users to send suggestions/feedback via Application Insights

                                        One source of application telemetry not captured by Application Insights is direct feedback from users. While one can observe usage and performance with the service, if users are directly saying "this sucked" or "please add this capability" then no inferences are required.

                                        Since Application Insights is already a service in the cloud, and since telemetry is already being delivered to that service why not provide the ability to ship "comments/suggestions/feedback" too, and have a place for that in the AI service.

                                        Would sure beat having developers trying to build their own feedback/send a smile kind of capabilities from scratch.

                                        • Add another abstraction level beneath an application

                                          As a DevOp I not only want to see the applications overall indicators, but I also want to see it on a machine level. So if I see in the application that some of the requests are failing (e.g throwing an exception), I can go one level deeper and would see that it is one certain server that produces these errors.
