I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

  1. rename Work Item Type Definition

After applying an agile template, allow Work Item Types to be renamed. Currently We have Product Backlog Item for our user stories. However my director complains weekly, because it should be called User Story. And there should be a separate entry for Epic. It is not clear how to make these changes after a TFS server has been up and running for a while.

    • When Adding A New Team Project To TFS Allow The Tracking Of Existing Git Repositories

Currently when adding a Git repo to a team project all that can be done is the creation of an empty repo. I think that it would be benificial to allow a team project to track a remote repository, whether it be a 3-rd party repo (somewhere in the cloud) or a repo that is on a server/machine that is not the TFS server.

As far as I know Teamcity allows the tracking of Git repos in this manner.

Commits pushed to the repos on the TFS server should then be reflected back to the repos it is tracking.

      • Link codeplex project to test projects in visualstudio.com

Sale test framework for an open source application is a good vector of funding open source projects.
It's not possible to industrialize open source projects directly from codeplex because all tfs features are not activated.
So, I think you could think about designing a bridge between codeplex solutions and visualstudio.com that allow to test build and deploy from visualstudio.com and keep the main project in codeplex.
You also could create a kind of market place for that.
The open source developer creates his project in codeplex
He industrialize it in visualstudio.com then, when the project is ready
        He can decide…

            • Remove the 5 minute timeout for checkins (after which they fail). I need a checkin system that works easily.

There seems to be a wide consensus (and I've checked it myself) - that Visual Studio Online (visualstudio.com) projects have a bizarre 5 minute checkin.

What does this mean? - I need to check my pre-existing project into VS.com in pieces - each of which is "guessed" to be less than 5 minutes of ADSL transfer.

Please fix this - it's a clear bug.

Restrict access to TFS based on IP Address configuration will be more safe to codes.

                • Align web access work item linking dialog with VS linking dialog

Hi, I haven't noticed this limitation before in web access 2012.2 (yes i'm still on .2) but earlier today I wanted to use built in functionality to resolve a user request, the user wanted to link work items in the quickest way but did not have/need or want team explorer installed on their machine preferring to manage their work items purely using web access. The web access dialog for linking work items does not currently have the capability to browse for work items (for example by reusing an existing query). I did not realize that this functionality differs between the…

                  • Inherit TFS warehouse security based on the security that is in TFS

The TFS warehouse currently does not have a notion of security, which means that I'm able to see the work items of my entire organization in the TFS warehouse as of the moment that I have been added to the warehouse readers group in sql server analysis services. It would be a great approach to show only items of the team project/team of which I'm a member. this is not only better for security, but also for performance as queries would result in a lot less result data that is transmitted

                    • Have a Visual Studio Client Online

Yes, that's right! I want you to take the next step and have me program in the cloud! Your TFS Preview is superb, now let me program from there, from a Web Browser. You'd let me select the proyect template: C++ Win32, C++ Metro, C++ Web, .NET, SharePoint, Office 365, and create the project in the cloud, and let me enter the IDE from the cloud, so no IDE is needed in my PC.

                      • Export work item type

We have developed and bespoken a new process template for TFS. It counts with custom work items type and several custom control developed integrally by us to boost and improve project management through TFS and Project Server.
However, we came across a big issue. This work items type can be exported without any impediment by anyone who has the view project-level information permission set to Allow. This permission is essential in order to set to Allow to the development team. Therefore, we are in a critical point since our work can be taken by anyone and consequently we cannot offer…

                        • Encapsulate the idea of Enums as Bit-Flags | Flag Keyword

Right now we have to implement bit-flags using enums and they have to follow very specific formats to work. One wrong typo, and they don't work!

I suggest creating what is shown in the pictures below.

Right now, if you don't know how to implement flags, you have to do some research into the subject matter, and might still make mistakes. Why not have bit-flag creation be just as simple as enum creation?

I also suggest that there *might* be ways to abstract out the use of bitwise OR, AND. If you don't know this bit-hacks, then you have to…

                          • Snippet for lambda expressions

When the user writes a method call which has a lambda expression as parameter, autocomplete it with a snippet. Example:

                            collection.Where...
                            then the snippet completes
                            colletion.Where(x => x)

This avoids writing x=> x every time I use a lambda expression method.

                                • Add more controls to Lightswitch HTML Client

Currently the Lightswitch HTML Client for LoB apps is excellent, but also very primitive in some regards. Without controls like Tree Views or Data Tables it can be difficult to build even basic data intensive applications with LS. This is made more complicated by that fact that the client exposes only a few hooks for Javascript and HTML injection by default, and tying custom plugins and controls into LS can be surprisingly complex.

In short, it would be a huge boon to LS HTML to add more controls and would expand the use cases of it significantly.

                                  Some controls that…

                                  • Allow conditional compile statements in XAML markup

Allow the XAML markup editor to allow conditional compile statements so that a developer could have #ifdef statements in their markup

                                    • exploratory tests with pass or fail result

Exploratory tests are simply displayed as completed and each session needs to be opened to discover if bugs were raised during the test session.

Allowing the user to choose whether the test passed or failed during the session will provide a quick view as to the status of the development of the user story under test

                                        • Modify the NullReferenceException to somehow capture the runtime type that was expected

This is the most vexing of problems when it occurs in Production code lacking any debug symbols. Support personnel are reduced to basically just guessing. Even if most of the time the value is System.String, that is at least a pretty good clue why the application bombed.
