VSIX extensions should be updated from a network path
In-house developed VSIX extensions should be updated without uploading Visual Studio Gallery. Click-Once like deployment may be good.

It's great to hear about your interest in this. This feature is already in the Visual Studio Developer Preview that we recently released at the //BUILD conference. There's a post coming out on the Visual Studio Blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visualstudio/archive/2011/09.aspx) about it very soon - hopefully some day next week. I'll post the link as soon as it's published. We'd love to hear your feedback.
