TFS Alerts for notifying every stakeholder

I am trying to setup TFS alerts for the team and would like to setup an alert where everyone who is or was part of "AssignedTo" field during the life cycle of the work item gets notified.

I need to ensure everyone who ever worked on a workitem should receive notification email till it is closed.

I don't we have any feature like this out of the box, but it would really help in making TFS more popular.

I know the ability to assign "followers" to a work item from other tracking system like bugzilla or redmine and this works fine.

Our team also needs the ability to assign "followers" to a work item. If I know that a few other people will be interested in updates to a work item I am currently editing, I want the ability to add them to the item so they will receive updates.

I like the basic concept here, but I don't want it to try and automatically notify who it thinks might be a stake holder. I want to make it easy to become a stakeholder. A sort of "follow" or "subscribe" button.

Example: A bug was filed by my co-worker after he worked with a customer. I worked with another customer affected by the same bug, so now I want to keep track of that bug so that I know when it is fixed and I can notify my customer.

Yes, I know I can create a custom alert, but I don't want to constantly create custom alerts for each bug or work item I am trying to keep up with. Quick click that "subscribes" me or "follows" the work item. Maybe even somewhere I can manage my "subscriptions" or "follows"

A usable middle-ground might be the option to remain subscribed to workitems once they have been re-assigned. This might have a project-level and/or user-level default setting.

I don't know about everyone that ever touched a request is necessary, but I would definitely like alerts to be configured so alerts can be configured at a more granual level than just the project level. Like to be able to notify a specific person about a specific defect.

Just get it done.. It is very surprising that it doesn't already.
