      Updated Status: 7/2/2013

Thanks to everyone who voted and commented on this issue. Visual Studio 2013 has increased color and contrast use within the user interface while continuing to focus on giving the content you are creating and editing visual prominence. We’ve utilized the feedback you gave us to help refine our approach to color and contrast within three main areas: 1) we added color to icons and reduced line weights to improve icon scan-ability and to better communicate icon meaning and categorization; 2) we added line work and raised contrast levels to increase visual separation between screen regions; 3) we included a built-in “Blue” theme option at product first launch to better support user choice.

In keeping with these three areas we have made many changes to the Visual Studio 2013 built-in themes. In high utilization and icon intensive areas of the product, such as common toolbar actions and…

@brian - I was not directly involved with the changes, but I believe there was quite a bit of rewriting that went into the colors, icons, and palettes, and that's why it's not something where you can just "snap" the 2010 colors into the IDE. It's much more involved than just a setting, and that's why you haven't seen something happen sooner.

I like the look of the 2013 preview, but I realize people have a lot of different views about it. I liked the 2012 dark theme as well. I was not a fan of the light theme.

For VS2012, the color themes editor provides some color augmentation. It's not a full blown 2010 theme, but it does have more color in it.

Doug Turnure - (Former) VS PM - NOTE: I've taken a new role outside the product team. Deon Hebert (introduced in the header of the site) has taken over this site.

We will certianly continue to maintain the product. Today we released Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Desktop which demonstrates our continued support for Windows Forms. Please continue to report bugs on Connect (http://connect.microsoft.com/visualstudio). Individual issues are evaluated carefully – we consider many aspects of the change including the cost, implications, and number of requests. We are closing this issue so you can have your votes back. Thanks for your feedback!

                Hi everyone,

I know there has been a lot of discussion on this topic, and the general interest has been around improving the performance of Visual Studio. With VS11 Beta out, we have seen significant improvements in performance.

At this point, we do not have plans to re-write the IDE in native code, and we are going to close out this idea and release your votes for you to apply elsewhere.

We have the performance forum (link is on the bottom of the right hand side of the main VS UserVoice page) where you can vote for specific performance ideas, without using up your 10 votes on the main forum.

                thanks,
Doug Turnure (MSFT) – Visual Studio PM

@KMKY - We don't have a fixed criteria, per se. On this site, the teams look at top suggestions, and weighs them against the improvement, cost, schedule, and viable alternatives. The individual teams take these suggestions very seriously. In the last design session I attended, I repeatedly heard people saying *this is a highly rated item on UserVoice*, when discussing features. So the items submitted here can impact our planning, although they do not exclusively drive it.

Per our exchange in these comments on July 25th, you said what you care about is performance. We see this idea, as well as the top over all idea (improve performance), as a call for the same result. We are working on this, and the dedicated performance forum factors into our prioritization.

To be direct, re-writing the IDE in native is unlikely in the near future, but improving performance is a very big deal to us, and we are actively pursuing ways to make VS more responsive and consume less memory.

                thanks,
Doug Turnure - VS Program Manager

Thanks for giving us this feedback. Performance feedback is something that often requires details, and as such, we've set up a special performance forum to let people vote and categorize where they most want to see better performance. Please take a look at the blog post linked at the top of the forum, and help us prioritize next steps. http://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/131389-visual-studio-performance

                thanks!

Hey folks, you may have noticed, but based on all the feedback about improving performance, we have opened a UserVoice forum (look in the right-hand pane for Visual Studio Performance) to let folks vote on what areas they would like to see improved. This is very helpful to us, since performance is such a broad topic. Take a look and cast your votes, to help us prioritize areas that matter the most to you.

                  thanks!

There are a wide variety of reasons that debugging can be slow which makes this particular item not directly actionable as it is too broad. Please read the following blog post which outlines various reasons debugging can be slow and provides links to more specific UserVoice items that are actionable (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visualstudioalm/archive/2015/03/03/make-debugging-faster-with-visual-studio.aspx).  If you encounter something that doesn’t have an existing UserVoice item please create a new one that is focused on a specific feature area for the debugger

I have looked for a way to allow additional ideas when you are out of votes, or a way to submit an idea without voting for it - I don't see it, but I'll ask their support if there is a way I can set the site up to do that.
