Visual Studio IDE

Announcement: Last fall, we migrated this forum to Visual Studio Developer Community to provide you one convenient and responsive system for all feedback. As the final step in the migration, this forum will be closed off completely on June 1st, 2019. We encourage you to visit Visual Studio Developer Community where you can now suggest new ideas, browse and vote on existing ideas, and engage with Visual Studio teams.

We’d like your suggestions and ideas to help us continuously improve future releases of Visual Studio, so we’ve partnered with UserVoice, a third-party service, to collect your feedback. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos for which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft.

This site is for feature suggestions; if you need to file a bug, you can visit our Developer Community website to get started.

Note: your use of the portal and your submission is subject to the UserVoice Terms of Service & Privacy Policy and license terms.

We look forward to hearing from you!
- The Visual Studio Team

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  5. Make subject line for notifications consistent

To improve my ability to sort and manage notifications from Developer Community, please make the subject line for updates to the same issue the consistent. For instance, I recently received 5 notifications for updates to the same issue and they all had different subject lines:

[Developer Community] Visual Studio Team posted a new comment on "Git Repo creation security capabilities are constraining"
[Developer Community] Status Changed for "Git Repo creation security capabilities are constraining"
[Developer Community] Russell Webster posted a new solution to "Git Repo creation security capabilities are constraining"
[Developer Community] Kjartan Þór Kjartansson posted a new solution to…

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351114/report-a-problem-in-browser.html
When click "Report a Problem" in browser, you should indicator user there is also a "Report a Problem" button in the installer. Because someone has a installation problem, hasn't installed visual studio yet.

  8. Development Section on task showing code reviews

On the team services task/bug you that is associated with a changeset you should also be able to see the code review functionality or at the very least associate a code review to a task or bug in the development section of the card.

  9. Reporting Authentication problems in Visual Studio is impossible, as you need to be authenticated

Let us report problems for Visual Studio from the website. I have a problem during authentication and I can't find any way to post it as I need to be authenticated in Visual studio for this.

  10. Instead of making the variable a reference pointer, you should add more such variables as by making everyone of them a reference pointer.

Instead of making the variable a reference pointer, you should add more such variables as by making everyone of them a reference pointer. The added variables will go to the same space as of the one for functions, and also that for variables. If there are too many of that, the compiler will add first two in the first space, and the rest into the second space. By reducing the number of non-existing ones, the compiler will lose the loops in the code by emptying the unnecessary variables and functions so that an error in the variables will definitely causes…

  14. update the tutorials

I'm trying to walk-through the tutorial, but the code presented for vb appears to be outdated. The codes presented as "should appear" do not include all of the language my IDE presents (Handles radioButton.Checked ,, is on my screen after "RoutedEventArges), but not the tutorial,,, and then I copied the code to enter that makes the Display button work, and there are error codes.

  15. Provide up-to-date starter projects for common scenarios

Take a look at the thousands of MS forum and StackOverflow entries about just getting started with using VS with such things as React or Angular. These are very important, heavily used tools. Developers are spending literally thousands, maybe millions, of hours trying to get the most basic things working. A relatively small investment by MS could save millions of $ of developer time -- and make MS products irresistible.

There are a few sample applications, but they tend to not work because VS or .NET has evolved (that's good), and they no longer work. I've spent many hours trying…

  16. Can't report issue from website

Can't seem to report a problem from web. I can't even open VS15 Preview 5 as it crashes before I can even sign in, so I can't report the problem from VS and I can't seem to report the problem from Web

  17. VS Feedback - Add the ability to Report more info about the same issue, mine or another, without opening new one

I mean the ability to add some infos/data directly from “VS FeedBack Tool” instead of webApp (developercommunity.visualstudio.com).

When you use VS to work on it is natural to use VS to submit feedbacks or adding some info on known issue that recur when you work.
This is the philosophical line and I suppose that almost VS users prefer to use VS to submit/adding infos and WebApp for discussions/browsing issues.

With my experience in debugging, I think is fundamental for a quick and precise debugging to have more “VS data collect” from different users on the same issue.

    Today it’s impossible…

  18. provide complete offline help option

The offline help in VS 2015 has not been updated in ages, and is not synchronized with the online help. Online help has poor usability and sometimes there isn't wifi around. I see in VS 2017 offline help is not even an option!

  19. Allow users to add additional information to existing problems in 'Report a Problem'

I have useful information I can add to an existing issue found through the "Report a Problem" dialog but the only option I have is to click "Me Too".

  20. report problem website should use markdown

When typing the answer to https://community.visualstudio.com/problems/230/c-intellisense-causes-crash-when-typing-opening-pa.html I felt like I was in a StackOverflow clone so I tried writing a link using markdown, only to find that there was no Preview option and that the Link button in the editor inserts links WYSIWIG style. Instead the Report a Problem site should use markdown since it’s faster to type that than to deal with the WYSIWIG editor and it’s the standard these days.

I couldn’t find the right category to report this under…
