I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Entity Framework (EF) & Linq to use in JavaScript (NodeJS)

    I have seen that exist an unofficial linq library for JS:
    http://linqjs.codeplex.com
    https://github.com/mihaifm/linq

    NodeJS could be better if Microsoft create the official libraries. With NodeJS and EF We could connect with relational databases.

    • Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

      Please include more information in the exception. If it's in the debug mode, we get the line number, but in release all we know is the name of the method, which often makes it real hard to find out WHAT was null. You know the type of the reference, please include that.

      • Easily Switch Exception Message in English

        When one got an Exception, the major way to solve it might be search in the internet, and Major Forum or Website about program are discussed in English, so one will need to get English Exception Message so that one can easier find the solition or provide solution to the community.

        Now .Net show message in local language, I hope .Net can provide a way let programmer efffectively and easily turn any .Net program such as Console/ WPF/ Winform/ asp.net Exception Message in English, Thank you.

        • Create a new project type for the front-end projects (SPAs)

          SPA is becoming a new trend in web development, but Visual Studio doesn't yet support splitting web applications into two separate projects - one for the front-end (Angular, Ember, React etc.), and another one - backend code (ASP.NET Web API, SignalR etc.), yet allowing to build and run them as a single web application. The directory layout you are currently enforce to use is not suitable for SPA applications. That is one of the reasons why many web developers switch from ASP.NET development to GO and other technologies.

          It would be nice if VIsual Studio would support a directory layout…

          • Built-in conditional compilation by framework version, eg #if NET40

            .NET version-based conditional compilation can be achieved as described in various Stack posts, however this requires the advanced skill of editing the project file or build file. It would be much simpler if VS had pre-baked constants eg one per framekwork version NET20, NET30, NET40 and "forwards" versions eg NET40_AND_ABOVE.

            http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2923210/conditional-compilation-and-framework-targets

            http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1449925/is-it-possible-to-conditionally-compile-to-net-framework-version

            PS category should be Build or Compile but that doesn't exist

              Add 3D support in XAML and programmatically to UWP such as it was in WPF 3D for simple 3D graphic.

                  to support TLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA256 cipher suite with ECC parameters. NIST P-256 (SECP 256) and BrainpoolP256r1 are pretty popular in Europe. E.g. German Standards enforce that, ECC/Brainpool curves have to be used to secure IOT scenarios. As far as I know ECC/Brainpool curves are already supported by some C++ (OpenSSL) and Java libraries (Bouncy Castle).

                  • Add the DatabaseFirst option for Asp.Net 5 projects how it was in earlier versions of Asp.Net

                    Give back the wizard for using Database First like it was for Asp.Net in earlier versions where we could add the Db Entities just by right-click->add new item->ado.net data entity instead of writing all the commands in Package Manager and Command Prompt, it takes us a lot time and is risky (easy to write commands wrong). Bring the designer back.

                    • Named Token String Formatting

                      Currently when using `String.Format` to insert text in a string placeholders are defined by index; e.g.

                      string s = String.Format("{0} is the name of my pet {1}","Brian","Dog");

                      Instead it would be nice to have a mechanism to allow these placeholders to be named, such as:

                      string s = String.Format("{name} is the name of my pet {animal}",{"name","Brian"},{"animal","Dog"});

                      It seems to be a popular question on forums, suggesting there's demand:

                        • Please add the 'Code Analysis' feature for the .NET Core projects

                          In VS 2015 or 2017, for the normal asp.net web application or class library, if you right click the project name, choose ‘Properties’, there is an option ‘Code Analysis’ on the properties page and we can configure it. But for the .NET Core projects like the ASP.NET Core web application, there is no such option on the properties page, please add it, this suggestion comes from here: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/6daba04d-b34b-4ab2-b4d9-fcef1b9d4794/code-analysis?forum=visualstudiogeneral

                          • Make Docking and Windows Panels native control. Similar to what Visual Studio has.

                            Every medium sized application needs Windows Panels and Docking mechanism anyway. Visual Studio has this function incredibly well implemented why not make it accessible for every application. Every medium sized application would not have to spend months building their own or debugging and testing free or commercial alternatives.

                            • add BitScanForward and BitScanReverse functions to .NET Framework, like in C++.

                              The .NET Framework seems to be missing functions to give us safe access to the BitScanForward and BitScanReverse x86 instructions, for 32-bit and 64-bit integers.

                              Following you can see the C/C++ functions documented but there is no C# or .NET equivalent.
                              http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wfd9z0bb(v=vs.100).aspx
                              http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fbxyd7zd(v=vs.100).aspx

                              If you are bothered by the fact that BitScanForward returns 2 values (boolean and index), or if you wish to make the name less ambiguous than "BitScanForward", then you could make a slight modification as follows and name it "CountTrailingZeroBits".

                              int CountTrailingZeroBits64(UInt64 inValue)
                              {
                              int i;
                              return _BitScanForward64(&i, inValue) ? i : 64;
                              }

                              And similarly for…

                                • Give FileSystemWatcher the power to detect file "moves" (by listening to/hooking the Win32 API)

                                  MOVE has been a basic level instruction of Windows for decades now (as opposed to just being a COPY and a DELETE), yet the FileSystemWatcher is unable to detect it. There are currently only two workarounds: 1. watch every delete and create to see if two match up (non-trivial, need to also watch all the parent directories, all the disks etc: see https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22447022/best-way-to-track-files-being-moved-possibly-between-disks-vb-net-or-c) 2. step outside .NET and write a low-level application in C++ or whatever to hook the API (possibly involves learning a whole new programming language and environment).

                                  It would be nice if there was a simple…

                                  • clickonce should be able to harvest query string parameters also from browsers other than Internet Explorer

                                    Currently ClickOnce can harvest url parameters only for I.E this approache is passe . no developer can allow himself to deploy an app that it's functionality is limited only for I.E

                                    this code works only for I.E

                                    • TPL Dataflow in distributed environment

                                      TPL Dataflow is one of the few Microsoft calculation engines designed for real world. It is great. But unfortunately it has been feature-frozen for more than a few years. Meanwhile, other ecosystem involved a lot in this real-time processing area.

                                      So, please continue to invest on TPL Dataflow. More built-in blocks please. More importantly, let the data flow across processes/machines.

                                      Btw, I know the existence of Project “Orleans”, which is a good attempt but seems to be Azure-only. Microsoft please carefully look at the two and work out an unified Actor model. At this moment, they are two wheels built…

                                      • Add support for LEFT/RIGHT/INNER/FULL/CROSS modifiers in linq JOIN expressions.

                                        In Linq/Entity framework, you transform LINQ statements into SQL. This is cool, because that way, I can have compile-time syntax/schema-checking in the SQL-statements I write. However, since there are no modifiers LEFT/RIGHT/INNER/FULL/CROSS, there's no user-friendly way to write LINQ/Entity SQL-statements. into ps from p in ps.DefaultIfEmpty() is not very intuitive, to say the least. If somebody sees this for the first time, it's absolutely not clear what this does. Furthermore, this makes writing complex expressions unnecessarely complicated. Why not just add support for left/right/inner/full/cross join ? That would make code a lot more maintainable. Having to write "from c in…

                                        • Add 128-bit floating point type to the languages

                                          Continuing the discussion from https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ecc148ec-2192-41e6-b535-8a75ec9811ba/quadprecision-floating-point-in-net?forum=netfxbcl

                                          I wish to see 128-bit floating point type get native support from .NET platforms in the next version, preferably available to PCL/Core users too.
