I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Codelens Doesn't Detect Parameterized nUnit Tests

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351500/codelens-doesnt-detect-parameterized-nunit-tests.html
CodeLens currently does not support detection of parameterized nUnit tests, as described in the pages below:

    https://github.com/nunit/docs/issues/174
    https://github.com/nunit/nunit3-vs-adapter/issues/55
    https://github.com/nunit/nunit-vs-adapter/issues/105

Adding support for CodeLens detection of tests in-line would be very useful.

    • Allow custom font rasterize in Visual Studio text editor

For some of us, we love Mactype - the font rasterizer that render nice and smooth font (similar to Mac).

However Visual Studio text editor component is written using WPF and at the current moment, MacType do not support it. The dev team of MacType seem to ignore this problem.

Can we have the technical details how to override the font rendering in VS text editor so that we can continue enhancing MacType ? Or best if Visual Studio Team can allow custom font rasterizing in text-editor.

With MacType, Eclipse code look perfect. Please see the different between Eclipse and…

        • Bring a command palette to visual studio.

Add a combined fuzzy search and command launcher that works in a similar way to Sublime Text or Visual Studio Code.

I appreciate there is Ctrl+, but it sucks and half the time fails. It does not allow for fuzzy searching and is prone to crashing when used a lot (experienced over 2013 and 2015).

          • Insert * at the start of new lines when writing /* */ comments option is not being saved

            Options->Text Editor->C#->Advanced
Insert * at the start of new lines when writing /* */ comments

            Setting is not saved properly.

It randomly turns back on upon restarting editor.

            • Add option to customize Intellisense tooltip color

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
              https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351399/add-option-to-customize-intellisense-tooltip-color.html
Visual Studio 2015RC does not include an option to set the background color for the Intellisense popups.

The color can be changed by applying a different theme, but I prefer the lighter 'Blue' scheme and a custom dark/high-contrast text editor. Due to the new colorization of intellisense / signature window, I can't see all of the text and punctuation in the popup.

Being able to set the background color of this tool tip directly would be useful.

              • Improve the "The parameter is incorrect" feature

This is one of my more commonly used features, but it doesn't provide enough information for me to do anything next. I don't know what about the build is failing or what even what parameter is incorrect.

A quick search on StackOverflow shows many, many questions about this error, each question with completely heterogeneous answers. These questions go back many, many years and many versions of Visual Studio-- it appears we will be living with this message for a long time.

Can this message be improved to show enough diagnostics so that we can address the issue ourselves?

                • Solution Explorer Context Menu - "Register Assembly" in a bad place...

Right click a project in the VS Solution Explorer, the bottom item used to always be "Properties". This has been changed in Update 2 to now be "Register Assembly".

I am always using the Porperties menu item, but keep accidentally clicking "Register Assembly" which on my machine causes VS to crash to desktop when I cancel the dialogue that pops up.

Please move the "Register Assembly" menu item somewhere else so that "Properties" is the bottom item.

                  • ASHX files incorrect indent in vs2015

In VS2015, ASHX files when added to a "WebApplication" project creates a code behind cs file.

When adding a new ASHX file to just a new website only a ASHX file is created.

When editing a pure ASHX file the indenting is not correct. The IDE seems to not know how to deal with ASHX files. No code collapse/expand, regions, etc.

                    Please refer to:

                    • set default encoding

Need a 'set default encoding for ALL files saved in VS', not only current file. It's so annoing to set it every new document, for example, when create pure .html file using utf-8.

                      • Remove "Change signature" quick action suggested all the time

On every line I have the option to "Change Signature" as a quick action (the light bulb on the left). This should be on the menu, not as a quick action. Quick actions should be to refactor code for example. Or at least this should be configurable.

I don't understand why should I use Visual Studio editor instead of notepad.exe text editor in 2018. My C# code powered with Reactive Extensions looks the SAME in notepad.exe as it does in Visual Studio.

We live in 2018 year now, but Visual Studio doesn't seem to. It's unable to highlight methods, properties and variables in it's code editor window. All professional tools are able to do this, just take a look at Visual Studio Code, Rider, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, PhpStorm and…

                            • IntelliSense for Aurelia views

Aurelia is rapidly gaining traction as the second big SPA framework for the future, and it represents a very strong alternative to Angular 2 - and while Angular 2 seem to be stuck in perpetual development, Aurelia is here now, just as capable, and much nicer to work with.

                              Read more at http://aurelia.io

Visual Studio already provides IntelliSense support when editing Angular views, and I strongly believe it should do the same for Aurelia. This should at a minimum include full IntelliSense for the Aurelia binding syntax, and ideally also for property names defined on the corresponding view model.

                              • Add "Confirm exit" option to preferences!!!

It is INSANELY frustrating to shut Visual Studio down if one accidentally presses Exit or ALT-F4.

Clumsiness or not, this should not be a problem.

And don't say "rebind keys", because it's does not solve the problem permanently.

Bring back the upgrade SKUs for Visual Studio 2015 so that people with a Visual Studio 2013 license can get a discounted price for licensing a copy of Visual Studio. This is more in regards to the Visual Studio Professional product level as there are renew options for the MSDN options.

Where is the "Health Indicator" for CodeLens in VS 2017? It was a very good feature in VS 2015 but isn't there in VS 2017. How can we get it back?

Currently Visual Studio for Mac does not fully support Typescript. So I would like to suggest that it get's updated to support all aspects of Typescript.

In it's current state the following bugs have been raised as issues with Typescript in Visual Studio for Mac:

                                      • Have a setting to always create UTF-8 source files

In Visual Studio 2013 (and before) it is possible to save Unicode Files (with our without BOM) by using "Advanced Save Options". It would be great to have a setting in Properties, so that all files that are created by Visual Studio use UTF-8 (without BOM) automatically (for the filetypes where this is a possiblity). Of particular interest to me are the .json files, because most programs do not like the BOM. (.cs and .js work fine with BOM)

                                        • Visual Studio Design

Visual Studio is No.1 developers IDE but need professional UI/UX and prototype designer to be complete. at now Visual Studio Blend not very useful and can move features to Visual Studio and removed.
prototype tools such as Sketch, Lingo, adobe XD and InVision not support Windows 10 and UWP.
So continue Expression Design as Visual Studio Design with new features:
                                          1. Cross platform for Windows, macOS and Linux
                                          2. Prototype template for UWP, android and iOS
                                          3. Support multiple pages
                                          4. Support Html5 animations
                                          5. Create UWP app from prototypes
                                          6. Export prototype to UWP, PowerPoint, PDF and etc.
                                          7.…
