I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Please replace the flat, mostly monochrome icons in VS 2015

Visual Studio already looks a lot better than Visual Studio 2012 and 2013. I like that at least some icons got colored again and that the menu no longer is all ppercase.
However, I'm still not a fan of flat design. The colored icons still look quite strange. And most of the monochrome icons are really ugly.
So please bring back the icons of Visual Studio 2010. Or provide multiple icon packs and let the user choose. Not everybody likes flat design!

    • Fix ligatures

Visual Studio 2015 supports ligatures which is wonderful and help readability of code. However, for some reason, anything with a hyphen does not register properly (at all really).

      Can this be fixed?

        • Make Visual Studios website UX and advertising more inclusive

The other day I received one of those generic emails about Visual Studio, and I noticed that out of the 11 clip art people only 2 were girls. And both were in the background or off to the side(see pic). So I decided to check out the VS website and noticed the trend continued. Men outnumbered women on every part of the website with 2 or more people with the sole exception of continous intergration (ps props to who ever designed that page). In fact, most of the time they doubled to quadrupled the number of women. And although there…

          • Ability to copy TFS dashboards

In my organization we have many team project which use a similar base dashboard in project homepage

The idea is to save a dashboard once and apply it to new or existing projects

                • Live Updates on Current Sprint

In VSTS (Visual Studio Team Services) it'd be great to allow "Live Update" in the current sprint (Scrum method) just like the functionality for viewing the backlog. This would allow each team to display the current progress of the sprint without refreshing the browser. For example, a large monitor in the team area could show the current sprint allowing everyone to see as stories move into progress and then become completed.

                  • Add drag and drop loading for property sheets

It would be great if property sheets could be added to a configuration by drag & dropping them from explorer directly into the Property Manager.

                    • Bring back the "VISUAL" in visual studio

Visual studio used to look really great. However, everything about the 2012/13/14 interface looks.. amateurish.

-The icon looks like something a 3 year old did.

-The lack of depth makes the whole thing jump into my face. Please bring back the "line work" with contrast.

We have incredibly high resolution monitors that can render beautiful images. To go all grey is such a step backwards.

In the old days people scrambled to get color monitors just to get away from the ho-hum grayness of working with a machine all day. To send us backwards is irritating at best and abusive…

                      • Allow moving toolbars into titlebar

I'm kind of a space optimization maniac, and I've always been annoyed by not being able to place toolbar items into visual studio's title bar.

I mean there's a search bar and a few other buttons in there already, but, I'd rather put there some common toolbar items there to save some vertical space.

I gotta admit that I got really inspired by the old firefox 24/ or the palemoon browser's UI for this. As you can make an extremely compact toolbar.

                        • Change the Browser Link icon

The [enable|disable] Browser Link icon is represented by a clockwise arrow and I often get this confused with the Restart icon which is represented by a counterclockwise arrow. It would be great to change this to something else, such as a bidirectional horizontal arrow.

                            • Show line differences in merge

Currently (in VS2015) the file DIFF tool highlights lines that are different, but also highlights the specific differences within the lines. This makes it very easy to see exactly what changed. But the MERGE tool only highlights the lines, not the differences within the line, which can sometimes make it much harder to figure out what changed, especially if the change is very minor. Please add the ability to highlight the line differences in MERGE.

                              • Allow StakeHolders to create PBIs under a feature

Currently when a StakeHolder is adding a new PBI in the backlog, it is not associated with any feature regardless of the selected feature un the tree. Also, since StakeHolders cannot move PBIs under a feature by drag/droping them, it becomes very tedious for them to associate PBIs to a feature (they have to eidt links manually). This is generating a lot of friction in the adoption of TFS tools. It would be nice if they could make the association easily.

If I'm logged into the visualstudio.com web page it's not at all obvious how I'd change my password. I had to search on the web for about ten minutes before discovering that I need to use https://account.live.com to do this. Please add a link to <username>.visualstudio.com to quickly access the password change page on account.live.com

                                    • New 3D IDE, icons, visuals, etc. like Visual Studio 2010 and Windows 7.

Visual Studio 2015 not adapt to the OS Theme, in my case Aero in Windows 7. Only Visual Studio 2012, 2015 and Microsoft Office 2012, 2015 not adapt to the OS Theme, while all other applications adapt it consistently.

The new IDE is really ugly. Has the Metro/Retro UI without effects, gradients, shadows, plain and ugly colors and icons; flat, ugly and boring UI design. Also the UI experience is a nightmare like in Windows 8.x and 10.

Microsoft not learn about the critics in Visual Studio 2012 that are UGLY.

Microsoft not learn the failure and the disaster of…

                                      • Allow manual alignment of lines in difference utility

When there are many changes in a file, the difference utility sometimes does not find the best matching lines between the two versions, and then the rest of file is misaligned. User should be able to manually align the two -- normal comparison continues to the rest of the file, or to the next manual alignment point if set. BeyondCompare has a similar feature.

                                        • Please make Visual Studio Augmented Reality (AR/VR)

I'm thinking that the main development screen could be ANY size, unbounded by my traditional monitor.

I could have my unit test lists to my left, TFS work items etc. to the right and the development windows in the middle.

I could have a virtual keyboard (with haptic feedback built into some gloves, or some kind of haptic suggestion built into the headset).

I could arrange various VS shortcuts around the interface - e.g. put my "Clean, Rebuild & Run" buttons somewhere handy.

Highlighting and much of the context-sensitive options such as F12, debugging options (step into/over, etc.) could be…
