    • Include SQL BI tools in the latest VS version

SQL Server 2012 has followed its predecessors as the BI Tools released again with the previous version of VS instead of the latest one.

Please, release the BI tools with the latest VS version and include it in SQL Server. Be the IDE really integrated again (or finally)!

        • Ensure that you do not release a future version of Visual Studio without BIDS (SSRS, SSIS) support.

Please ensure that you do not release any future versions of Visul Studio that do not have full support for (BIDS) SSRS, SSIS. This has resulted in a significant delay in rolling out VS2010 here, and in fact now that I heard BIDS will not be supported in Windows XP, we may skip VS2010, so now our team is missing out on so many great features.

Currently working with sql file tables is too difficult when working with EF6. I would like to create file table and filestream records directly in entity framework

              • Database Projects - Reinstate Data Compare and Add Support for Database Diagrams

VS 2012 Ultimate RC does not seem to have any support for the Data Compare feature that was present in VS 2010 Ultimate and that saved me a ton of time (not to mention cash) when comparing the data between 2 databases and generating deployment scripts.

With regard to database diagrams, these were also supported in VS 2010 but do not seem to be supported at all in VS 2012, diagrams are useful way to quickly see the structure of a database and yes I know I can use SSMS but as this is built on top of VS 2010…

                • Open Source SQL Server Compact (CE)

Although it has not been officially announced Microsoft is deprecating SQL Server Compact (CE). SQL Server CE filled a crucial use case for a small in process embedded database engine for applications and even websites. This need has not changed, if anything it has only become more so with the move to isolated phone and tablet (Metro) type apps. Without SSCE Microsoft won't have a product which fills this use case. Jet DB, MSDE and now SSCE will all be dead.
SQL Server Express LocalDB is not a replacement for SSCE, particularly due to the deployment constraints requiring admin privileges,…

                  • Support SSAS / SSIS / SSRS in Msbuild

I would love to see MSBuild support building BI project types for CI. Currently, the only out of the box way to build these projects on a Continuous Integration server is by using devenv.exe. Devenv.com is fussy and will hang or not build projects at all. Additionally, licenses need to be periodically refreshed for it to continue working. It's a mess.

                    • Include pre- and post deploymentscripts of referenced databases during deployment

I would like to have the option that pre- and postdeployment scripts of referenced databases are also executed during deployment of the referencing database.

At our company are we using some general components in our applications. Some of these components also contain a specific database schema. These general database schemas are included in the database of the application. The database projects of these general components also contain pre- and postdeployment scripts. Certain database changes it is even essential to make use of pre- and postdeployment scripts.

At this moment only the objects of the referenced database are created in the…

                      • Please consider adding ReadyRoll to Visual Studio Professional

I was very excited to see the addition of ReadyRoll in the latest update of the Visual Studio 2017 RC, however this will only be available on the Enterprise edition. I think that you should consider including this option in the Professional SKU as well since it is a tool that would be of great help to most professional developers and most of us can only go as far as the Professional Edition of the product.

                        • Add Syntax Highlighting/Intellisense inside SQL Strings in C-Sharp/VB Files

The SQL Server Database Tools and SQL Server Management Studio tools are excellent, but it would be super helpful if Visual Studio also did SQL syntax highlighting and intellisense inside of SQL strings in files other than those with .sql extensions. Namely, C-Sharp and VB files.

Doing simple queries with an inline string is an incredibly common pattern, so actually having some intellisense and/or compilation warnings would be great.

This would enable a much more efficient development story for cases where using something like Dapper.net is preferable over a heavier OR/M like EntityFramework.

                          • SQL Server 2014 ClickOnce bootstrapper packages

Visual Studio 2013 comes with bootstrapper packages for 'SqlExpress2008R2', 'SqlExpress2012' and 'SqlLocalDB2012'. SQL Server 2014 was released earlier this year but bootstrapper packages are still unavailable. Please release the bootstrapper packages.
Although it would be possible to create a package by myself there are a few problems which make this difficult and undesirable:
                            - What are the fwlink links for download packages from Microsoft's website
                            - What are the public keys for the packages

LocalDB in particular is supposed to be used as a replacement for SSCE which is deprecated. How can we use it if there's no simple way…

                              • SQL Server 2016 support for Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2

Microsoft should allow to install SQL Server on Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2, the latest version of desktop and server OS since Windows 8.x, 10 and Windows Server 2012 and beyond are mobile and limited OS (also ugly). Which are not desktop operating systems. Microsoft should support for installing and running SQL Server 2016 on Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2, which has the largest market share and installed base, without the need or obligation to update an operating system that nobody wants.

In Microsoft "Mobile first, cloud first" era, that really means "Mobile only, cloud only",…

                                • Rename all references for all database objects

Since the functionality to rename all references to an object already exist (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd193410%28v=vs.100%29.aspx), it would be nice with a feature to rename all references to all objects. So that you could get rid of all the " Warning: SQL71558: The object reference differs only by case from the object definition"

                                  • Add "Generate rollback script" button in SQL Server Data Tools' Schema Compare

I use Generate Script button to produce a script to introduce changes from development to other environments.
Normally the deployment procedure is (simplified):
Script the change using Schema Compare.
                                    Backup the target database.
                                    Apply the change.
If something goes wrong: Restore from backup.

This works if the script fails. However, sometimes the change has issues that have made it through testing, that do not become apparent for some time (like the middle of the next day...). At this stage I have the option of restoring, and losing user data. Alternatively, restore the backup I did to another database (or SQL…

                                    • SQL Server projects in VS2013 should generate create script only for object in the project

When creating SQL Server Project in VS2013 and referencing another SQLServer project on the same server and database. The generated create script generates create statements for objects defined in the referenced DB.

                                      • Improve SQL Server Management Studio Diagrams

Improve SQL Server Management Studio Database Diagrams to use modern disign (aperance) like VS Class Diagrams or EF Diagrams.

It is unaceptable on these days that SQL Server Managemnt Studio renders that ugly and old diagrams with those old fat lines and borders. We would love to see SQL Management Studio Generating beautiful diagrams like VS Class Diagram or EF Diagrams.

Also allow "Fit to print" options like CA Erwin does.

                                        • Save the Model.bim.layout file formatted rather than as a single line

The model.bim.layout for Tabular models is currently a single line. When this is updated as part of changes it can never be usefully compared with a diff tool. It would nice to work well with these tools to be able to see the files include newlines / indentation when saved.
