You can now suggest new ideas, browse and vote on existing ideas in the Visual Studio Developer Community. To learn more about the migration to Visual Studio Developer Community please check out the release blog post.

We’d like your suggestions and ideas to help us continuously improve future releases of Visual Studio, so we’ve partnered with UserVoice, a third-party service, to collect your feedback. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos for which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft.

This site is for feature suggestions; if you need to file a bug, you can visit our Developer Community website to get started.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  10. Access modifier of "Hidden Packing Field" of Auto Implemented Read Only Property need to be "Protected" instead of "Private"

Access modifier of hidden packing field of auto implemented read only property need to be "Protected" instead of "Private" to allow direct assignment from derived classes using the name "_PropertyName" ,

the current "Private" modifier forces the programmer to do one of:

1- Declare the property two times , one as "MustOverride" at base class and re declare an "Override" at derived class

2- Add fake methods in base class to set the required value to property using "_PropertyName" from inside base class

3- Declare useless additional field as "Protected" gust to be able to assign the value directly from…

  13. Help Viewer 2.3 Default Code Language

When I open the Help Viewer 2.3 to read offline documentation, the ComboBox at the top of any page always defaults to 'C#'. It would be more convenient if I could choose which language it defaults to - I would choose VB.

And thanks for all the fish. In the short time that I've had to use Visual I have decided that it would be less painful reaching a 'Solution' than pulling teeth.
While Visual 6 wasn't going to win 'Cool Kid' awards, it was simple to use and provided some key features missing here: Option Base1, control arrays, uncluttered editors, procedural view . . . Anyway, I'll finish what I started in Excel and VBA and, maybe if it works, I'll re-build in Java…

It was so simple and it worked. Why did you destroy it?
Please just make it a stand alone separate from Visual studio. Make it for the simpletons like me so I can knock up a program in a day using windows forms. No project this or that just click on a desktop icon and straight into VB and just name project and away we go. like we once did.

Remember how Microsoft started it was the little guys in a shed on…

  19. In the Visual Basic editor please change the response to an unfinished " .

The C# editor doesn't do this. It is very distracting. Maybe just red squiggles to the end of the line. The first time it happened, I absolutely freaked.

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351645/vb6-programming-language-13-in-june-2018-tiobe-ind.html

Microsoft's VB6 programming language is the 13th most popular programming language in June 2018.

The latest version of classic Visual Basic was launched in 1998, 20 years ago, and still rates highly in the Tiobe index of over 200 programming languages.

    https://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index

This shows VB6 programming is more popular than Perl, Swift, Assembly Language, Matlab, Go, Delphi and over 200 other programming languages.

Time for a new release of VB6, Microsoft.
