Announcement: This forum has been migrated to provide our customers one convenient and responsive system for all feedback. You can now suggest new ideas, browse and vote on existing ideas in the Visual Studio Developer Community. To learn more about the migration to Visual Studio Developer Community please check out the release blog post.

We’d like your suggestions and ideas to help us continuously improve future releases of Visual Studio, so we’ve partnered with UserVoice, a third-party service, to collect your feedback. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos for which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft.

This site is for feature suggestions; if you need to file a bug, you can visit our Developer Community website to get started.

Note: your use of the portal and your submission is subject to the UserVoice Terms of Service & Privacy Policy and license terms.

We look forward to hearing from you!

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

Just like you have many refactoring tools for c#, it would be nice to have many of those features for JavaScript

Provide a transcompiler to convert the VB6 programming language to JavaScript.

Also do the same in Office for VBA programming.

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351033/javascript-unit-testing.html
Please provide a TestRunner for javascript Unit Testing Frameworks like QUnit. It should be possible to run them automated in the background. Also different browser javascript engines could be targeted (like IE oder Google V8).

  4. Please provide a SonarQube plugin for TypeScript

This is a request to integrate TypeScript as a supported language for SonarQube.

This would be a way to integrate TSLint into Visual Studio, so that warnings are available on build.

Furthermore, SonarQube offers additional features, such as incremental technical debt analysis (i.e. "only warn when the code I write has errors - not for the whole solution"). This kind of analysis is useful for incrementally converting a solution.

  5. Better Angular Support

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351300/better-angular-support.html
There has to be more "connectivity" between html/cshtml and javascript (and typescript).

For example pressing F12 in an ng-click attribute should bring me to the function in the javascript (or when typescript used to ts function).

  7. Better context-aware javascript code snippets support

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351393/better-context-aware-javascript-code-snippets-supp.html
In the current code snippets infrastructure in Visual Studio are not context-aware, only Intellisense is context-aware.

For exapmle in the AngularJS app, when I write a "angular.module" then press "Tab" that should have a code completion feature for Angular module creation.

Also, when I type "angular.module('myApp').directive" then press "Tab" that should let us choose one of some useful code snippets for directive code template.

If Visual Studio can support this kind of code snippet feature. That will be very awesome! :)

  8. Intellisense for Angular 2 templates

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351164/intellisense-for-angular-2-templates.html
Many Angular 2 developer prefer to write their templates within the .ts file (not a separate html document).

When you do. however, you have no intellisense at all. Visual studio treats this as plain text. It would be nice if you could provide the normal html-intellisense, as well as Angular 2 stuff (like "ngFor", "ngIf" etc.), within inline-templates.

  9. Support JSDoc @link in TypeScript

JSDoc support in TypeScript is already pretty good with nice syntax highlighting. What I miss is inline @link support (http://usejsdoc.org/tags-inline-link.html) in JSDoc comments in the same way that it is supported for <see /> references in C# XML Documentation Comments.

It would be great if the @link inline statement should reference types in the project, so that it is possible to navigate to the type and check its existence. Also, when typing @link, a list of types provided by IntelliSense would be handy. Last, when the documentation is displayed in IntelliSense, the {@link} formatting could be changed to…

  10. Support for regions in JavaScript-editor of Visual Studio 2017

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351476/support-for-regions-in-javascript-editor-of-visual.html
    Support // #region // #endregion in JS.
Unfortunately, WebEssentials 2017 doesn't support it since there are VisualStudio 2017 performance issues.
Therefore, currently, there is no solution.

    See: https://github.com/madskristensen/WebEssentials2017/issues/7

  13. Add ability to minify your javascript, CSS and HTML when not in debug mode

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351196/add-ability-to-minify-your-javascript-css-and-html.html
Minifing the output code means faster load times for the client and less bandwidth. Visual Studio do this automatically on building a release copy of code. Debug code should not be minified or at least have the option to do it or not. See Yahoo's tool http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/compressor/

  14. Having a error in the task runnen fail the current build.

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351372/having-a-error-in-the-task-runnen-fail-the-current.html
When a Grunt or Gulp is running through the task runner before a build and the task is being failed (for example when running jshint) it should be possible to fail the entire build or at least have a warning.

  15. Improve productivity while working with JSX

Please add some productivity improvements to JSX:
    - auto-closing tag (like in HTML editor)
    - rename closing tag while changing opening tag (like in HTML editor)
    - add ability to wrap selected JSX with DIV (like in HTML editor)
    - add ability to export selected JSX as stateless component

  16. Make Typescript debugging Angular 2 apps work in VS2015

Angular 2 uses Typescript but debugging it in VS2015 doesn't really work. If I set a breakpoint somewhere in .ts file and run asp.net 5 MVC 6 project (with Angular 2) the breakpoint is inactive.

  17. Ask to configure projects for typescript.

"Your project has been configured to support TypeScript"

    Please stop.

Asking to configure is perfectly fine, but just doing it without asking is incredibly disruptive. I have an alternate setup for building/deploying scripts that I need to adhere to and automatically configuring the project like this only gets in the way.

Develop a declarative client side framework like AngularJS in pure TypeScript with tight integration with Visual Studio. Wait! Let me explain!

With the coming of age of HTML5 Shadow DOM and surging popularity of declarative client side frameworks like AngularJS/EmberJs, Visual Studio can usher in the next era of Drag and Drop web development...of single page applications.

Something analogous to a AngularJS "directive" could be dragged from the VS interface as a fully functional widget that, thanks to upcoming HTML5 Shadow DOM spec,…

  19. Find all references for javascript files

I would like feature like "Find all references" for javascript files. It's realy time consuming trying to find where else in code is some function used, especially when javascript files are 1000+ lines of code.
