  1. Preserve user created solution folders when regenerating the solution in VST4U

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351319/preserve-user-created-solution-folders-when-regene.html
It is hugely useful to be able to debug add in dlls in Unity: http://unityvs.com/documentation/dll-debugging/ and it is great that the Unity plugin preserves the references to external projects when the solution is regenerated.

It'd be nice if we could organise these external projects into solution folders and have the tool preserve to user defined folder structure as well as the project references when regenerating the solution.

    • Provide better out-of-the-box code comparison tool

      https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351198/provide-better-out-of-the-box-code-comparison-tool.html
When performing code comparisons from within Visual Studio, the default code comparison tool is still the original source code comparison tool that shipped with Visual SourceSafe. Instead, a more sophisticated and modern code comparison tool should be shipped out-of-the-box with Visual Studio rather than having to resort to 3rd party comparison tools such as Beyond Compare.

            Hi!

            Thanks for this suggestion!

As Sébastien noted, you can already use our wizards today to generate MonoBehaviour messages.

We do have plans to investigate if we could use the new Roslyn based IntelliSense infrastructure to have an even smoother workflow.

          • Set the platform for the *.Editor plugins to x86 to prevent warnings

            https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351318/set-the-platform-for-the-editor-plugins-to-x86-to.html
Is it possible to set the platform to x86 for the .Editor project rather than Any CPU? I've got a few plugins that have a processor architecture of x86 when compiled, which then gives the following warning.

"There was a mismatch between the processor architecture of the project being built "MSIL" and the processor architecture of the reference "XXXX", "x86"...."

This is *extremely* minor, as it doesn't cause any issues, it's just nice to have a warning free project!

              Hi,

              Thanks for this suggestion!

If we switch the plugins to x86 what will happen when Unity releases a 64 bits version? ;)

What we have in the road-map for future version is better customization for the generated project files. This way you’ll be able to select another platform.

It will only be a cosmetic change that being said, as Unity is handling the compilation of the scripts itself, the result of the Visual Studio compilation is only used by our own tooling.

VS Setup has very heavy footprint on the hard drive. Especially because of the package cache that keep setup locally.

In virtualized environment, when several developers are using several VM with dev tools, this leads to a huge amount of disk space waste.

It would be nice in the cache location could be selected, and put on a network share, reachable by all team members.

Thanks for the feedback: we agree that this is an opportunity to reduce the installation footprint for VS. We are considering some options here, including turning the package cache off by default in the next release of Visual Studio and/or allowing you to set the install location.

In vs2005/2008/2010, when I set a breakpoint and a bookmark in the same line, I can see both. But in vs2012 RC, the breakpoint covered the bookmark. Maybe restore icons to vs2010 is a good idea.

We work with many separate, related Unity projects. One project contains all the C# source code, and we build a DLL that we then distribute to the other Unity projects. Some of these "downstream" projects lack any actual scripts of their own, so the UnityVS solution that's created by the plugin doesn't contain any projects by default. I can still add the external "upstream" C# projects to the solution, as outlined in the documentation for external DLL debugging, however the debugger cannot connect!…

                      Thanks for this suggestion!

That’s an interesting scenario that we will consider. We’re also considering providing specialized class library project with support for deploying the compiled .dll into the Unity project and convert the .pdb into the Unity supported debug symbol file format.

More and more I fear that Microsoft tries everything to fetch all my business critical code into its cloud, disrespecting any last particle of privacy and business secrecy, pushing developer experience heavily downwards. Regarding Visual Studio this comes up in some places:

                          Hi James,

I want to address your concern about Team Services. As a convenience for VSTS users, we try to automatically populate connections associated with the active account. Unfortunately, for non-VSTS users, we have an error leaking that shouldn’t be. Rest assured, it is not an attempt to force anything to the cloud. You do not need to install Power Tools, though it appears that it may be a way to suppress the connection attempt.

                          Thanks,

In the new "Willow" installer, I find that the default selection is only the VS core editor. Being a longtime Visual Studio users, I'm usually installing a new major version on a machine that still has one or more previous versions, so it would be great if the installer of the latest version offered to give me parity with my existing installation (in terms of packages/options/tools) so I don't have to remember what I selected the last time and have to re-launch the…

This is good feedback. We have a couple of ideas under review for solving this. One challenge is that every VS2015 installation includes C# and VB for desktop and web development, but we can’t presume that every user needs all those capabilities. But roaming your configuration across machines is a desirable goal and once we’re able to implement sign-in into the installer, we’ll be able to persist your choices to the cloud as a good starting point.

Thanks for sharing – and looking forward to seeing feedback from others too in this area.

It would be nice if the XAML editor would support IntelliSense for x:Uid. In the attached example a dropdown with the values buttonLogin, inputLogin and inputPassword would be shown.

Editing of the x:Uid in the property window would also be nice. It should also show a drop down list.

Although the c++17 is still on its out-coming way, I'm wondering if the compiler team may consider it now and seriously? because it could be another long('very' like) time to wait it to be implemented into the compiler if the dev. team decided to start relevant works after C++17's out. The soon the work started the ampler time to completion the feature support.

i have 2 hard drives so i should be allowed to choose where it installs this should be a feature that people should not have to complain about. i am disappointed with Microsoft.
