I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Include Code Coverage Analysis in Professional Edition

It's great to see some of the previously Ultimate-only features such as CodeLens moving downlevel to the Professional edition, so thanks! It's maybe too late to do this for RTM, but please consider also including the Code Coverage Analysis tool in the Professional edition of VS 2015 rather than limiting it to Enterprise.

Performing code coverage analysis is an integral part of any unit testing workflow, but it's hard to justify the cost of Enterprise for just this one built-in feature when something like JetBrains dotCover can just be purchased separately.

    • In codedUI test assertion, capability to compare image also.

Instead of checking if some control has a specific property or not, I want to compare image of the control (e.g. for a button, It would like to verify that It's shape, font color, font size, BGColor and text hasn't changed, I can verify all of this simply by comparing the current image and the one at time of recording)

      • It would be great if you add a feature for COdedui framework to generate single UITestActionLog.html file for all the test methods too.

It would be great if you add a feature for COdedui framework to generate single UITestActionLog.html file for all the test methods apart from individual Html Files.

        • Bring back the Data Source Wizard lost with the Test List Editor

Please can you bring back the Data Source Wizard which you lost when the Test List Editor was deleted from VS2012. Most of the People using Coded UI Testing are not developers and find having to hand code a datasource confusing at best and imposible at worst. Many have gone back to using rival functional testing products like test complete or qtp. Please make this a matter of priority.

          Thank You

          • Allow to turn off the LOG TRUNCATED feature of the test runner output

            http://stackoverflow.com/questions/32320218/vs2015-log-truncated-in-test-runner-output

In the test runner that comes with Visual Studio you can do a number of Console.WriteLine statements in you test method and those messages will be written to the Output window of the test. I've used that extensively in VS2013. Unfortunately in VS2015 I only see a little over a page of text in the test's Output before I see the message

!!! LOG TRUNCATED !!! To get complete log, Select 'Copy All' on the Right Click Menu and then paste into some text editor like notepad".

The message is very clear what VS2015 is doing and how to…

            • Test Tools in VS 2016 - CodedUI - Merge UIMap Actions Into One Method

Due to the instability of the CodedUI Test Builder, and the unpredictability of playback I have many separate methods in a single UIMap file. I would like to merge the actions\methods into 1 method\an existing method. Within the UIMap there already is a function that will split a UI Action into separate methods, and I want to do the opposite and merge separate actions\methods into 1 method\an existing method.

              • Support Code Coverage for Universal Apps (Windows 10 App)

Unit testing experience for Win 10 universal apps is very bad. I was not able to use NUnit 3.x and even when I use MSTest, Code Coverage tool in VS 2015 Enterprise (Update1 / Update2) produces no results.

                Please support code coverage analysis.

                • Support ClassInitialize in Base Class

It would be nice to have a ClassInitialize in a base class of a TestClass so that in addition to initializing static variables in the test class, I can initialize static variables in the test base class.

                  • Not possible to run MTM tests (Coded UI or MSTest) via vNext builds

With xaml build definitions user selects MTM Test Plan to run, with vNext build definition it is only possible to select test dll to run.

Tests executed via vNext never report test statuses to MTM test runs, vNext test runs never appear in the MTM.

So with vNext build integration of manual-automated tests is not supported out of the box!!!

                    See for details:

CodedUI only supports the MSTest framework, xunit works cross platform and is a joy to use(https://youtu.be/Mw5lODrvELk). Please enable CodedUI(https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd286726.aspx) to work with xUnit by default.

                      • Make Fakes available with Visual Studio Professional Subscription

Fakes and Shims are only useful if every developer in the team is able to use it to enhance their unit tests. Limiting its availability to just Architects and Senior developers (who usually have Premium or Ultimate level subscriptions) sounds like such a bad idea. This is killing the power of such potentially amazing tool! Please consider this.

                        Thanks.

                          • Enable IntelliTest to generate tests for Universal Applications

The IntelliTest feature does not work with the .Shared project that gets generated for Universal Applications. The current workaround is to create a separate PCL project, which will generate tests, and then reference it from the Windows/Windows Phone projects.

                            • Hierarchical namespace view of tests in Test Explorer

When working on a project with a lot of tests, I want to navigate the tests in a hierarchy: top level are assembly names, under each assembly name I want to see the dissembled namespace names.

                              E.g: AssemblyName/Namespace/Namespace/Namespace/.../TestClassName/TestCase

Leaf parent nodes should be the class name housing the test cases/the test class, leaf nodes then the test case.

This helps me to find and run the test cases I'm interested in. Using search isn't a good candidate for this because assembly names and namespaces are long, and I don't want to type them into a search box.

                                • Coded UI to support complex gestures like Longpress and drag and drop in single gesture method

There are instances in different windows store apps that you need to long press on a control to make it draggable and then holding the press you continue to drag the control to the desired location within app. currently this can not be achieved with the gesture methods available in CodedUI for windows store. Having support for this kind of gestures will help the automation engineers to achieve automation of these gestures.

                                  • In TFS 2015, create shared steps into other shared steps

Shared steps are currently flat, it means that we can only have 1 level of shared steps. Therefore, it is not possible to refer to a shared steps within another shared steps. This is something needed to create sophisticated test cases based on other test cases.

                                    • Show test results in status bar & red/green indicator without having to expand test explorer

I love the addition of the test explorer and the ability to have tests running after build. I think a good quality of life and space saving measure would be to display the summary output (tests passed/failed) in the status bar down the bottom of Visual Studio.

I would prefer not having the test explorer window open all the time so I can save screen realestate unless there is something I actually care about so if all my tests are passing, I shouldn't need it open to know that.

Something else that could help with visualising this is to show…

                                        • Easy IIS Express with custom domains

Sometimes you need to work with a real hostname. For me, I need to test a SSO provider posting a message to my system and they don't support localhost. I want IIS Express bound to a particular hostname.

Here's how to do it, but its complicated (and it actually doesn't work for me, I get an error that I must specify localhost).

                                          http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4709014/using-custom-domains-with-iis-express

                                          Please sort this out.
