  1. Bring back the basic setup and deployment project type Visual Studio Installer.

You really need to bring back the basic Setup and Deployment project name Visual Studio Installer. It was a clean, simple, and effective installer for home grown applications that were to be deployed internally. I downloaded and used InstallShield LE and it's too complicated and overblown to build simple effective install/uninstall capabilities. Why did you remove it to begin with? We have to support desktop applications for the foreseeable future.

      UPDATE:
We have just released an extension which delivers the Visual Studio Installer projects functionality present in Visual Studio 2010 for Visual Studio 2013.

To find out more please read Visual Studio Installer Projects Extension

      UPDATE:
We have more information on the next version of InstallShield Limited Edition that will be included in Visual Studio 2013.

What’s new in Visual Studio 2013 and InstallShield Limited Edition

      ORIGINAL:
We’d like to thank you all for your comments on this UserVoice entry. We have been discussing the comments on InstallShield Limited Edition (ISLE) raised here with Flexera and we are currently working with them to address the top issues. At this stage we have no plans to include the former Visual Studio Setup Projects in future product versions but we will continue to work with Flexera and the community to ensure…

    • create ALM Ranger guidance on "Leveraging Azure for Performance Testing"

In my opinion the biggest adoption barrier in performance testing on smaller projects is not the tooling but the high infrastructure and administration cost that comes with this phase of testing. Only if a reusable solution was possible and infrastructure management wasn’t as expensive, adoption would certainly spike. It certainly is possible if you bring Visual Studio and Windows Azure into the equation.

But there is hardly any guidance around how windows azure could be leveraged to performance test applications. For example, today its possible to set up the test rig in the cloud, its also possible to have the…

      • Create a Framework for driving realistic load against SQL Server

I have a framework for driving unit tests directly against SQL server (similar to the original SQL Load Testing project by Rob Jarrett) but with many enhanced features. The tool is already being used for engagement within the Testing Services and Labs, but the tool needs a full team effort to take it to the next level. Some high level info is below and some more in the two attached documents.

        SqlUT Framework Overview:
        * The testing engine sits inside of a Visual Studio Unit Test and takes advantage of the ability to feed data sources, test contexts, use timers…

        • Practical guidance for customers around ALM for SharePoint application development

I (Eric Charran) think we have an opportunity to put together some really good guidance for customers around ALM for SharePoint application development like we did back in 2007. What I think we need to address are questions around the following:

          1. How do I do a daily build, deployment and test for a provider/auto-hosted (Azure) application (CI)?
          2. How do I do a daily build and test and code management for napa applications in O365?
          3. How can I do unit, systems, integration testing across service boundaries, interfaces and cloud boundaries?

          • Enable IntelliTest to break dependencies by automatically generating mocks

IntelliTest warns about external dependencies (for e.g. calls into the filesystem, network, etc.) present in the code-under-test. The expectation is that the developer then manually write a mock for such dependencies.
I would like IntelliTest to detect such dependencies and automatically generate mocks.

            • Exporting performance test results into Excel

We can export load test results to excel. But why can't performance test results.

If i copied all the results manually, i need to spend more time in formatting those results in excel.

We can export .trx file. But the thing is, we can open those files with VS only.

              • Allow Goup By: Test Category in the Test View window

TestCategory attributes are excellent for controlling tests from the command line, it would be useful to also have GUI support for grouping the tests by their Test Category.

I know we can filter on the Test Categories column, but it would be much more usable via Group By.

                • Provide ALM Rangers Guidance and Tooling around Baseline Management

We need a way to manage a baseline of assets other than source code. This project could describe how to manage versions of requirements, test cases, builds etc in a similar way (how nice it would be to be able to branch and merge work items for instance). The project could look at tool support outside the tools in Team Foundation Server to help create a baseline of artifacts and then use the baseline to compare and promote changes agains other versions.

Submitted by Visual Studio ALM Ranger.

                    • Load testing virtual users activity chart

After running a load test with "Percentage of New Users" set to 100% the Virtual User Activity chart shows each user on a separate line. If the test has more than about 100 users, ie more than about 100 test cases executed, then the chart shows a vertical scroll bar and I can only see a small part of the whole chart. There is no "copy" option that provides the whole chart.

Would like a chart that shows all the tests on one screen, possibly by collapsing or folding the chart.

                      • End to end ALM environment hosted in Hybrid (Private/Public) Cloud

I have a dream of a complete end-to-end ALM solution hosted entirely on Azure. From developer workstation VM images to TFS to build, test, deployment options. Removing the infrastructure barrier, but still providing a secure, domain connected, on-demand, Private/Public hybrid cloud based solution. We have customers inquiring about this and this seemed like a job for the ALM Rangers to gain traction quickly.

                        • Exploratory testing related guidance in Rangers' testcase management documentation

I was wondering if we have any existing guidance on exploratory testing in our test case management documentation and if not, would it be useful to add some. this should cover various real life scenarios in project lifecycle where exploratory testing could be of use and some best practices around the same.

                          • Provide Testing Framework for InfoPath Forms

Currently, CodePlex offers the following 2 projects for testing InfoPath Forms: http://ipfswebtest.codeplex.com/ and http://itin.codeplex.com/. However, neither of these solutions completely solves the problem of Unit Testing both InfoPath Forms that run on the client as well as InfoPath Forms that run on InfoPath Forms Services. In addition, neither of these solutions are supported by Microsoft, thus making it difficult to rely on the tooling if something does not work correctly with each release of InfoPath. Instead, Microsoft Visual Studio should ship with built-in capabilities to provide Unit Testing and overall UI testing for InfoPath Forms that run on the…

                              • Supplement the Team Foundation Server Planning Guide with planning information about pre-requisite services

Add information on planning SQL Server and SharePoint services, with a focus on high-availability, when planning a Team Foundation Server infrastructure. The guidance should be based on real-world scenarios, such as the MSFT dogfooding (Pioneer) and other test environments, to ensure that the guidance is based on fact, not a hypothesis. • Be able to dynamically set SharePoint Server property on InfoPath People Picker control

Currently, InfoPath 2010 only provides a static SharePoint Server Url property for the People Picker control.

However, when moving an InfoPath Form between development and production environments, it would be extremely useful to be able to dynamically populate that content through a data connection/data source or some other control property. This would reduce the amount of effort required to manually modify InfoPath Form properties when moving or migrating InfoPath Forms between various SharePoint environments such as from Dev to Test to Staging to Production.
