We’d like your suggestions and ideas to help us continuously improve future releases of Visual Studio, so we’ve partnered with UserVoice, a third-party service, to collect your feedback. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos for which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft.

This site is for feature suggestions; if you need to file a bug, you can visit our Developer Community website to get started.

We look forward to hearing from you!

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. The path of references is not written in "csproj" !!

Improve Nuget correction on different computers. The path of references is not written in csproj. I already have a certain default folder. You do not know this job the Nuget Team.

  2. Better NuGet search

Have the search function seras for all that matches, not only what is in the text box.

For example, was to install "Microsoft.Azure.WebJobs.Extensions.EventHubs" but forgot the 's' at the end, so the package did not show up.

  3. nuget manager - search by author in tabs other than browser

As of now the nuget manager allows you to search by author name, but only in the "browse" tab, not the "install", "update" and "consolidate" tabs

  5. Update the Nuget Package manager settings screen to support adding credentials

Right now for any secure nuget repos you have to use the command prompt and then hope you got your settings right. The GUI should be updated to allow you to specify your credentials directly and test them to make sure that they work before saving.

  8. show if package manager is running

I would like to see more clearly if Nuget is running or not. For example, when updating Boost to 1.66 it shows "Successfully uninstalled..." then there was a very long delay in output before the next action produced output and I wasn't sure if it was doing something or not and can I try to rebuild my app again or not

  9. Reference Packages Direct download

Provide an option to directly pull the missing packages from the solution explorer...instead of searching the related packages in the nuget manager... Options like Get, Update and Downgrade.. it will be helpful to directly pull the missing packages to the solution

  11. Let nuget work in projects installed in multiple solutions

Projects fail if the project is used in multiple solutions and someone updates a project's nuget package from a different solution.

  14. Tree view for NuGet dependencies

When you want to uninstall a NuGet package, VS stops you showing that there are packages depending on that.
It would be useful to have a tree view of dependencies, in order to have quickly recognize all dependencies and understand the uninstall order

  15. "Include PreRelease" checkbox not sufficient

When managing nuget packages from the UI in Visual Studio, on the "Updates" tab there is an "Include Prerelease" checkbox. When this is ticked it shows you pre-release packages as updates.

However solutions are often using stable releases of some packages, and using pre-release versions of some other packages. For example my solution is using the stable release of "Serilog" package, and the latest "Pre-Release" package of Xamarin.Forms. In this scenario I would like the Updates tab to show pre-release updates for the Xamarin.Forms package, and only stable updates for the "Serilog" package.

In other words, in addition to the…

  16. Nuget package uninstallation requires package in the repository

When a package gets updated and the original version is missing in the repository after some time I cannot uninstall or upgrade the package from the Manager UI.
I need to remove package from packages.config, find it again with new version and install again.
It would be nice to have some option like - on Uninstall/Upgrade when its not found to offer removal from list of packages even if it doesn't exist.

  17. Fix NuGet Package Search

If I start typing in the package manager search box and type "bit", I get a fair amount of results back. If I add a "b" (bitb), I get no packages found. If I keep on typing and searching, I find no results. Now, I'm all the way out to "bitbucke". Nothing. Once I put the final letter in (t), I get all kinds of results. Where were all of those results when I was at bitb or bitbu, for example? Why don't I get results unless and until I've typed out "bitbucket"? This is just one example of how…

  18. Nuget Package Manager updating packages for whole solution-change the Uninstall to ask "Are You Sure?"

When managing packages for the whole solution, and there's an upgrade available, it's too easy to accidentally hit "Uninstall" instead of "Install" and realize too late that you just deleted package references a bunch of projects.

  20. Throw all this fancy NuGet **** in the dumpster and just give me an .EXE to install EF.

What the **** am I supposed to do with the following drivel? I have no clue what this cryptic ******** means much less how to resolve it. There's only 4 billion ******* ways to tweak a project. How about some ******* guidance for " how to make this rocket science "exist in project"? And what the **** does 'native,Version=v0.0' mean? Are you kidding me?

Attempting to gather dependency information for package 'Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore.SqlServer.2.0.0' with respect to project 'rioapi', targeting 'native,Version=v0.0'
Gathering dependency information took 159.65 ms
Attempting to resolve dependencies for package 'Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore.SqlServer.2.0.0' with DependencyBehavior 'Lowest'
    Resolving dependency information took 0…
