  1. Provide offline installer for Visual Studio 2017 for Mac

I have a performance problem during installation of Visual Studio for Mac with a particular narrow bandwidth network environment.
I found the document below but when will the offline installer be provided?

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/mac/create-offline-installer
"An offline installer feature is planned for future versions of Visual Studio for Mac."

    • Make each Update of VS2017 downloadable

At the moment, only the latest Update of VS2017 (15.4) is downloadable, but I need the previous Updates (2 and 3) as well.

The reason is that I am in trouble with using the latest Update (15.4), so I have to roll it back to the Update 2.

      • Do not change the IIS hosting certificates when upgrading visual studio.

Do not change the IIS hosting certificates when upgrading visual studio. Every time visual studio is upgraded, the iis ssl certificates for sites pointed to visual studio solutions revert back to the IIS Express Development Certificate. If a local site is configured to use a different certificate for hosting, it should not be changed.

        • Save and Load selected set of "Individual components" in installer

I am charged with determining the set of selected Individual components for our development group. Using the new VS 2017 installer, it would be wonderful if I could check all the necessary boxes on the Individual components tab, save those to a file and have team members import/load it when they go to install. That way we all use the same installation settings.

I would suggest I make an offline installer but the -layout option only downloads the content and doesn't allow me to pre-select anything when I launch vs_professional.exe

          • Allow computer shutdown after install

It takes very long for Visual Studio 2017 to install with all features, so it would be nice if there was an option that allows to shutdown the computer after the install is finished

            • Make the Visual Studio installer more customizable (more than VS 2015)

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
              https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351401/make-the-visual-studio-installer-more-customizable.html
Let the user choose whether to install or not features such a Visual Basic or C#, and for which platform to develop. Although Visual Studio 2015 brought a good improvement in the setup process choices (hence the "Make the Visual Studio installer more customizable" idea, voted 1715 times, recently marked as completed) there is still a lot of room to do better. The Visual Studio 6 granularity was just perfect, why now there are so few choices? Why do users need to install…

              • VS Installer should have a place to manually input proxy ID and Password during installation of Visual Studio Components

Provision for Manually setting the ID And password of proxy in Visual Studio Installer.

Continuously gives 407 Proxy Authentication Errors.

We had a tough time installing Xamarin with Visual Studio Installer because it required proxy authentication to Download Android SDK authentication. Visual Studio Installer picked up the Proxy but did not prompt for the Proxy ID and password.

We could not find any provision to manually enter ID and password of proxy in the visual studio installer nor in installed Version of Visual Studio 2015

Having a provision to manually input proxy id and password during installation will solve many…

                    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351456/ability-to-create-custom-workloads-for-vs15-instal.html
It would be nice if a user could create a custom workload that they can load into the VS15 installer. This would allow users to help others install the necessary components for development easily, rather than being told to install X, Y and Z, a user could be given a customised workload that will have X, Y and Z already selected for the user.

I read through some blogs related to workloads and searched uservoice but could not find any mention of custom…

Thank you for this – it’s good feedback. We have it on our backlog (for after RTM), but we haven’t heard the request commonly enough from customers yet to know that this is a high-priority item (compared to other items on the backlog). Your UserVoice idea is great, and we’ll keep monitoring this thread to understand the scenario better.

Best wishes, Tim Sneath | Visual Studio Team

Running the /layout command will download.. well, who knows how many GB (I'm up to 9.86GB after THREE DAYS of downloading via Microsoft's servers, and it's still not complete). I've been downloading the ISO for the last 30 minutes and the speeds have not gone over 120KB/sec - it stays around 30-45KB/sec the majority of the time. No, it's not my end. I can download a slackware torrent right this very minute and reach speeds nearing 3MB/sec - I…

                      • Add a "Shutdown When Finished" option to the VS installer.

Installing and uninstalling Visual Studio (using vs_TotalUninstaller by Microsoft on Github) takes a long time when installing multiple components that are more than 10GB to 20GB large.

I would like for an option to automatically shutdown or sleep the computer after that computer is finished installing Visual Studio. That way, I don't have to worry about when my computer is staying powered all day/night.

It's 4AM in the morning when I started installing some of the components and optional components I wanted for myself at 8PM yesterday.

If you see this, great! That's all.

When I try to install VS2017 I selected my 2TB secondary drive, however, any workloads or other components besides the base install get installed on the C drive and do not follow my selected location of "D:". All install files should be able to follow user specified location.

I have seen it very often when a Visual Studio update is available - you start the update and it runs for a couple of hours.

During that time the IDE is blocked so you can't work on your PC any more. Since I cannot afford to be unproductive for such a long time, I run updates like this in the evening.

                                Addressing your specific suggestions:
                                1. This is a great suggestion. We are currently investigating how we can build this. We think we won’t be able to make this fit RTW for Dev “15”, but it is on our backlog for Update 1.
                                2. In Dev “15” we are giving you a lot more information regarding the progress of your download. We tell you how much you have downloaded, how much you have left and an estimated time remaining. For install we give you a progress of how much % we have installed. It’s really difficult to give you accurate estimate of how long something will take to install but we are always looking for better ways of giving you visibility and advance warning.
                                3. In Dev “15” we have completely revamped the installation experience. You will be able to see installations that are partial (i.e. didn’t complete successfully all the…

                              • Make the context menu titles include the "nickname" of the installation

                                Overview

While installing VS you can choose a "nickname". This is very useful when you have multiple versions installed, like RTM, Preview and anything else. Unfortunately, the right-click context menu for "Open With" does not include this nickname so you will see a list of just the generic "Visual Studio 2017" title.

                                Steps to Reproduce

                                Install RTM VS 2017
Install a Visual Studio Preview version of 2017 and choose a nickname like "Preview" (it may already do this by default)
Right click on a .sln file and choose Open With

                                Actual Results

                                • Support .NET Core in Visual Studio 2017 without being necessary to install the whole web development package.

In Visual Studio 2015, tooling for .NET Core was available as a package, installed separately from the whole IDE.

However, Visual Studio 2017 RC has the option of installing the ".NET Core and Docker" workload. For developers that do not work with ASP.NET Core, this workload adds extra space to disk. So, I propose making a "Cross-platform development with .NET Core" workload, or something like that, but without web application development stuff.

                                  Thanks.

This is really good feedback. We’ve been reviewing what we do here. Right now, our plan is to merge the .NET Core features into the .NET desktop and .NET web workloads when the .NET Core tooling is no longer “preview-quality”. We would prefer not to silo it into a separate workload if possible, because we want it to be available to developers using the existing workloads. Interested to know what kinds of development you’re doing with .NET Core – are you running from the console?

At the same time, we also recognize that we need to keep trimming the size of the web tooling – that remains a work in progress.

One option for you is to install the .NET Core component specifically as an “individual component”, rather than as part of a workload. There’s a separate tab during installation to pick and choose…

                                  • Download installation files before closing VS is necessary

Can you make it posible to close visual studio when the instal file are downloaded.
Now you must close visual stuio before you can click on install.

                                      • 2017: don't require SQL LocalDb for web workload

Please don't require SQL LocalDb for the web workload. I use SQL Server remotely and will never use LocalDb, and of course some people don't do SQL programming at all. I can understand making IISExpress and LocalDb selected by default when choosing the web workload, but please allow both to be un-selected. Neither are required to make an ASP.Net or MVC project.

                                        • Visual Studio Update

Can we have estimated time before actual update running? Then we can choose a proper time to install the update!
