I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Support Windows Runtime Components written in JavaScript/TypeScript

I'm writing a UWP app in HTML5, but I need a C# project to get Cortana background app support?!

  2. Visual Studio 2017 cannot recognize JavaScript file with out .js extention

Visual Studio 2017 cannot recognize JavaScript file, if it is not ending with js. Also cannot "set as startup item" in project explorer.
    For example Node.js "www" file.

  3. The same html\css\js editor like vs code.

The Visual Studio JavaScript editor is very difficult to use, if use the same editor like vs code, that's great.

  4. Support custom JavaScript reference groups

I work on a lot of different projects (not doing nearly the same thing over and over). It would be helpful to me to be able to define my own JS reference groups for intellisense.

  5. support front end debug on VS

Visual Studio should support front-end debug.
Currently all the js codes are combined into one file "eval". It is extremely difficult to debug js code there.

  6. Expose JavaScript project system as a separate install component for Visual Studio 2017

We are a big component vendor developing an extension for Visual Studio, which provides a custom JavaScript project type based on CPS. The problem we are facing is during the installation of the VSIX. We cannot find the install component for the JavaScript project system. The Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.JavaScript.TypeScript component installs the TypeScript targets and XAML rules only, but not the JavaScript ones. After some digging, we have found that the JavaScript project system can be installed with the following workloads: Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.Node and Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.WebCrossPlat. We would rather avoid installing an entire workload as a prerequisite to our custom extension just to get…

  7. Take the good stuff from ASP.NET Web Applications and put it in Node.js Web Applications

Love the new Node.js stuff in VS2017. However, there are a couple of features available in ASP.NET web apps that are missing from node.

    1. The ability to debug client side javascript. It seems that the IDE isn't aware that some of my JS is node, and some is clientside stuff (in this case angular), and it feels a bit weird.

    2. Being able to manage Bower packages as well as NPM packages, like you can with Bower, NuGet and SDK packages in one place

    See my blog post: https://camelofcode.wordpress.com/2017/03/12/node-js-in-visual-studio-2017/

  8. Code snippets for Typescript pls.

Since code snippets are easy to use and gives a lot of speed to developer, and since you are supporting Typescript, pls enable the code snippets for Typescript.

  9. Very bad performance on Javascript Editor

    Hi support team,

I installed the Visual Studio 2015 yesterday. The performance on Javascript Editor is very bad, It's lag, delay and ***** my visual studio. I usually see this message "javascript language processing in your background visual studio". Hope you can fix that.

The performance on Javascript Editor on VS2013 is really good.

    Regards,
    Hai Vo

  10. Better default syntax highlighting

Currently standard, a popular semicolon-less styleguide used by npm and others has broken syntax highlighting in VSCode.

Regardless how you feel about semis, they are optional in JS and shouldn't result in broken highlighting. Default syntax highlighting is rarely the best, but every other text editor I've used so far handles this case just fine, so it shouldn't be too hard to implement.

  12. working with an FTP project (angularjs) It'd be REALLY nice to be able to Name the project

working with an FTP project (angularjs) It'd be REALLY nice to be able to Name the project! Right now You get the Directory name as the Project name. But, working on 6 different site all with the directory "angularjs" makes it IMPOSSIBLE to know which site I'm opening

  14. Make the semicolon complete the IntelliSense List Members selection when editing TypeScript code in the Code Editor

When editing TypeScript code in the Code Editor, the IntelliSense List Members functionality is very useful. However, it should support more completion keys than just the Tab or Enter, like C# does.

For instance, if you are declaring a variable in TypeScript and type in the following: "var test: boolean = f", List Members shows "false" as the possible choices. In C#, you can just type the semicolon ";" and IntelliSense completes the statement to "= false;". But in TypeScript, it completes to "= f;".

Please add the semicolon (and possibly, the equal sign) as the supported keys that complete…

  15. Better javascript debugging in VS

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351672/better-javascript-debugging-in-vs.html
Please make the debugging experience of JavaScript debugging in Chrome or Edge the same as it was using IE.

It's no wonder people resort to using Chrome or FireFox for debugging. The integration with VS is far from ideal.

Using Edge for debugging is a disaster. It's buggy and freezes for no reason constantly.

As you have noticed yourself, people hardly use JavaScript debugging in VS and decided to turn it off by default in 15.7. But I'd rather have all my debugging…

  16. Update function for Cordova plugins

Currently VS will not show you if a Cordova plugin is outdated and there is no way to update it but deleting and re-installing it.

Having to keep track of plugin versions and update them manually is everything but ideal.

  18. In Apache Cordova, provide more tools fro editing and configuring Gradle prior to build

It would be good to have more control of lint options prior to the Gradle build - we can edit the file now, but changing Cordova versions re-builds the Gradle.build file to a default. - Seems to ignore Gradle Extras file too.

  19. JP characters were garbled (MOJIBAKE) in Apache Cordova index.html. It is caused by shift-jis.

Apache Cordova project template's index.html using Shift-JIS.(* JP edition)
Therefore Japanese is characters were garbled (MOJIBAKE).
Please change to UTF-8 from Shift-JIS.

  20. Better support for JavaScript projects

Today, there are no good option to edit a javascript project (SPA/PWA using WebPack/NPM). The current Node projects are way too slow. .net core projects are fine, but is not suitable because it have C# code (creating bin and obj folders). The closest to a good javascript project I could find was a C# Shared project. Intellisense works fine, ReSharper works fine and it's blazing fast. But feels like a hack and there is no integrated build on VS (I must have a prompt opened all the times to check errors and keep the live reload functioning).

    Suggestion:
