  1. Support a JavaScript Project type in Visual Studio

Please provide a new project type in Visual Studio for developing JavaScript components.

The new project type could have the following features:

    - Contains .js, .css, and .html files.
    - Represents a complete UI component - i.e. a module or widget.
    - Runs JSLint or JSHint on build and reports any errors and violations.
    - The build ouput is minified JavaScript and CSS; there should be options for specifying a minifier.
    - The build output should also output any HTML files (as ASP.Net partial views).
    - The new project type permits adding references to other JavaScript projects.
    - Intellisense is…

In reviewing this feedback item and discussing with individuals who voted, we’ve decided that this item is too old and out of date to guide our product development.

If you’re still interested in the idea of the JavaScript project type, please vote on this new suggestion here: https://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio-ide/suggestions/31368127-create-a-javascript-project-type

It would also be great to hear your personal feedback on what you would like to see in such a project. Please feel free to email me back directly.

    • i suggest you create a project template for XAML/Typescript and not just HTML/Typescript

I suggest the following three items:
      A. You provide a project template for XAML/Typescript instead of HTML/Typescript. The XAML should be transpiled to HTML as the typescript is transpiled to javascript. Developers can either work with the XAML view window or the HTML view window depending on which one they are comfortable with. that way MS developers coming from wpf/Silverlight are happy and new open source developers coming from HTML are happy.
      B. You should create RIA services for XAML/Typescript just as you had in Silverlight/c#/vb. And you will be forgiven for leading developers to Silverlight and killing it.
      C.…

            • Update nodejs to v4.x

Update the included nodejs to v4.x. The current version is to old, breaks many plugins to gulp, grunt etc.

I want to personally thank you for taking the time to share this suggestion. The Node.js tools for Visual Studio (NTVS) relies upon the version of Node.js that you have installed on your machine. The NTVS with Visual Studio 2015 and Visual Studio 2017 do work with Node.js v4.x

Again, thank you for sharing with us!

              • Not allow the project to compile if there is some weird character in the javascript or code behind

The other day i deployed a production website and when the users reported that they could not view the documents on the system, i found that there was a stupid * sign in the javascript function that loads the document to the custom document viewer, the compiler should have picked this up and not allowed the code to compile, if VS did this for me i would not have deployed a buggy website to production, so basically i would like the compiler to compile the javascript as well

                • Native nodejs library and more flexible hooks for implementing serializers, js libraries, etc.

As much as windows has been pouring efforts into javascript people rely on other js serializers, libraries (eg. knockout.js vs backbone vs amber, etc.) and javascript runtimes (nodejs). We've seen some improvements in the MVC runtime, the inclusion of typescript, etc. But we also see heavy use of RESTful JSON, inclusing or a lot of js in Win8, and full featureset for managing azure in nodejs. Yet with WCF you still have to trudge through formatters to swap out the serializer, Win8 it is difficult to use other js MVCish libraries, and nodejs you would have to wire some sort…

                  • seperate javascript files for pages

i want to manage javascript methods and logic per page, like the code behind (you can union all of them later on runtime
managing js methods in a central page is a big mess!

                    • Code-behind of javascript

As well all know that if you generate a WinForm a WebForm, the code-behind file (cs) or (vb) will be automatically generated.

Compared with this, it would be better if we handle a javascript event of a specific control (no matter it is a server-based control or a pure Html-based control), it will also generate a js code-behind for us to write down js codes and refer the js file in the aspx automatically to implement js separated from aspx itself.

Why don't put All the javascript in a toolbox ,css in a toolbox ,Html in a toolbox and so on ..Putting Off entire class as tree and its Sub Functions, methods,Items, etc in visual itself makes Even Novice User Grasp and Implement Easily what he want,But size od VS may be a concern to Microsoft but nevertheless it would be charming to have an tool like that.

Thanks for taking the time to share this suggestion. This item has been around for a couple of versions of Visual Studio and we haven’t acted on it. Looking at the VS “15” plans, we’re not going to take action on this item, so we’re going to close it. If the suggestion is still relevant, please either take a look to see if there’s another suggestion that’s similar that you can vote on, or open a new suggestion.

                                • Add Compiler for JavaScript, CSS & HTML5

I just learnt a new language (JavaScript in HTML5) and realised that after painstakingly doing a project all my code is available to anyone who visits the site at a simple right-click, View Source Code! Everyone on the web says 'it is a client-side (open source) language so it cant be hiden'; but I believe there lies the opportunity. Please add in visual studio capability to compile the open source code and I am betting you might bring and lock in a massive new users to VS2012!

                                    • Allow breakpoints to be set and used in embedded script tags in Razor .cshtml files

When you attempt to set a breakpoint in an embedded javascript tag in Razor, the breakpoints aren't properly resolved and runtime, and are never hit.

Only workaround I have found is to place a debugger statement in the block of javascript to force a breakpoint.

Please correct this so breakpoints can be set from the cshtml page.

                                      • Union/sum types in TypeScript

...with syntax like union { int, string } or simply int|string
This will allow to simplify lots of overloads, and enable faster integration with existing libraries that have to be typed as "any" currently.

                                        • Ability to generate JavaScript SDK doc

When VS provide the powerful support of JavaScript XML Documentation Comments (see URL below), is there any approach to generate a JavaScript SDK doc based on the comments in the JavaScript files? and is that possible to support this in VS too?
