Visual Studio IDE

Announcement: Last fall, we migrated this forum to Visual Studio Developer Community to provide you one convenient and responsive system for all feedback. As the final step in the migration, this forum will be closed off completely on June 1st, 2019. We encourage you to visit Visual Studio Developer Community where you can now suggest new ideas, browse and vote on existing ideas, and engage with Visual Studio teams.

We’d like your suggestions and ideas to help us continuously improve future releases of Visual Studio, so we’ve partnered with UserVoice, a third-party service, to collect your feedback. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos for which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft.

This site is for feature suggestions; if you need to file a bug, you can visit our Developer Community website to get started.

Note: your use of the portal and your submission is subject to the UserVoice Terms of Service & Privacy Policy and license terms.

We look forward to hearing from you!

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Please bring back the Illustrator import option in Blend 2015

Please bring back the illustrator import in Blend 2015.

I use it extensively in Blend 2013 and now I find it is missing.

In addition, the ability to export to XAML on the Illustrator side is no longer maintained as well.

Blend is a *long way* from being a decent graphics generation and line drawing tool.

Breaking this tool chain is going to effect many people. It is very popular.

  2. Please bring back the "Photoshop" import option in Blend 2015

If Photoshop importer is not supported in Blend 2015, it impedes our migration plan to Blend 2015 and we'll have to keep using Blend 2013.

We recognize that one of the advantages of WPF is that it can separate design from logic.
We place orders of screen designs to companies who specialize in design and we don't put the ability of using Blend as the basis of selection.
Designers deliver products in the form of Photoshop or Illustrator. Our current partner delivers with Photoshop format.

If we can't import Photoshop file directly, we have to create XAML with referencing the…

  3. Add official support for Blend Extensions

Currently there is almost no documentation how to extend Blend. I have seen some examples in the wild which seem to be the result of reverseengeneering rather than beeing officialy supported. Some of the suggestions posted here could be easyly programmed by the community.

In addition to voting for this idea, please leave a comment letting us know what extensions you would like to use in Blend.

  4. Add design time support for x:Bind syntax

Currently there is no design time support for x:Bind syntax. This makes it hard to use either design time data or mock data to visualize layout at design time.

  5. Visual Studio Blend support for Xamarin Forms

Adding support for Blend for Xamarin Forms App will be great. It'll help to add animations in a cross-platform way.

When doing animations Setting Properties via Textinput is taking longer since VS 2015. Please bring back the ability to drag values

  7. Support After Effect like path animation in Visual Studio Blend

I wish I could use Blend to build path morphing animations like in AE.

  8. A beginners guide on how to setup blend for visual studio

there are many people that would like to start using blend for visual studio 2015 but like me cannot find one single guide on how to start using it. There isn't an install guide or a guide for even opening up your first hello world blend project. If you want people to use your product how about showing noobs how to even start.

  9. Add Localization support and Language Selection to Blend 2015

If you set the x:Uid property on an Xaml element you don't see the localized properties in the designer. They are only visible when you run the app.

It would also be nice if I could select/set the value of the designer language in the Device Preview Settings dialog.

  10. Add SVG- or AI-Import to Blend again

There were Import Options in Blend 2013 which were removed in 2015. I know you plan an new Import Option for the SVG-Format. This is very important for us. Please bring up this Import functionality as early as possible!

  11. Bring back Number Drag in Blend 2015

In Blend 2013 and previous, whenever editing a numeric value in the Properties Pane the values could be changed with the mouse alone. A Target cursor would appear and by holding down left mouse button + dragging to left or the right the number would increase or decrease. This was an invaluable feature when adjusting margin, padding and even grid rows/columns. It allowed for adjustments to be made without staring at the number, nor two hands on the keyboard.

IMHO, this was one of the killer features of Blend as a Visual Designer where the one hand is nearly always…

  13. Please can you move Blend into more designer friendly software, 3D views of XAML for Hololens UI

When Blend first came out, it's designer view felt more like an artboard, than a coding IDE.

With design taking a bigger focus with RS3, SVG support, and 3D XAML coming for Hololens.

Please could you have designers work on making Blend more designer friendly feeling and focused, whilst still supporting the VS Code view.

Also please consider adding a 3D view of the XAML designer both for 3D XAML/HFML views, but also to see how XAML elements layer for debugging and design consideration.

  14. Stop opening all documents open in Visual Studio when opening a document in Blend

It creates clutter and increases the risk of editing a document from two places at once by accident. Please let me open only the document I tell the program to open. I'm likely to have unsaved changes in the opened documents that can easily be lost in ther current setup
The issue occurs when using the "Design in Blend" option in the solution explorer.

  15. Drag image files (JPG/PNG) from the Solution Explorer and Drop them on the Design surface

Drag & Drop of images was supported in Blend 2013 and is not supported any more in the 2015 version.

  17. Blend for Visual Studio

I think Blend for VS should have tools for non-tiled level design with either a custom physics engine or a choice between: NAPE, Box2D, and PhysX. It would be nice to have a tool inside the program that makes designing complex levels possible besides the same-old board game windows store games.

  18. I suggest you put a button in the "Visual Studio" opens "Visual Studio Blend" directly from the visual studio.

I suggest you put a button in the "Visual Studio" opens "Visual Studio Blend" directly from the visual studio.
Then I suggest you to insert the chance to do a GUI in "Visual Studio Blend" and using the "Export GUI" or "open GUI ..." contained in the "File" you can open the interface graphics created in "Visual Studio Blend" in "Visual Studio" quickly.

  19. Add a Submit/Comment botton in comment box for user stories.

I want to be able to click a Submit bottom in comment box instead of having to click "SAVE & CLOSE." This will help to be more efficient.
