I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. loosen c# langauge to allow static functions in namespace and port python math libraries to .net

    personally, I think python and javascript sucks as a language... I wish somebody would find a way to map the python and javascript api's into .net so we could get rid of them and use a real program language for everything...

    if you have to make c# a little less object oriented and more functional to do that...its worth messing the c# language up to do it just to get rid of the sucky python and javascript languages that everybody loves to hate...

    biggest flaw of c# is that it doesn't suck enough to complete with sucky languages like python…

    • vs2012 C++ with update 1 for desktop can't develop .net 2.0 or 3.0, 3.5 application! C# can!

      I want to develop .net 2.0 or later desktop application for WINXP, Vista, WIN7, but vs 2012 C++ with update 1( express edtion or professional) can't do this, I have to try all method include choose .net 2.0 framework in professional edition (for express edition ,I changed the project file target framework section from 4.5 to 2.0).

      But the generated binary file still need .net 4.0 to run.

      I can use vs 2012 C# version to generate .net 2.0 or later application!

      I like vs 2012 C++, I don't want to use C#!!!
      and I don't want to install vs…

        • Allow new in C# without giving Type

          see https://zoomicon.wordpress.com/2015/08/23/suggestion-allow-new-in-c-without-giving-type/ for a description of this suggestion

          Instead of

          List<CultureInfo> result = new List<CultureInfo>();

          in C# I’d prefer to be able to write

          List<CultureInfo> result = new ();

          inside the () one would be able to pass contructor parameters and also they should be able to use

          SomeClass v = new (someParam) { someProperty = …, otherProperty = … };

          syntax, that is be able to initialize properties of the class

          The idea is to allow syntax like:

          SomeClass v = new (someParam) { someProperty = …, otherProperty = … };

          and

          Type v = new (…){…};

          which is…

          • When using linq.select to slighly modify an existing model

            Instead of adding every single field... only add the modified field that needs to be modified. use elipses before and after the modified part which signifies that nothing else need change. Sort of like an auto auto mapping function for simple mods except the parts that change.

            • Automate the running and emailing of customer queries to specified email address(es).

              I have a few queries which are run every 7 days to report team output. Being able to have these queries sent to my (and my manager's) inbox every week would be a great time save, and would open up possibilities for keeping other stakeholders updated on project progression, etc.

                  • Graphics Debugger Clipping Analysis

                    The graphics debugger is an incredible resource for dealing with DirectX. It would be extremely useful if it could report on why output from the Vertex Shader stage is being discarded before going into the Pixel Shader. Perhaps selecting a given output row under the Vertex Shader portion of the Pipeline Stages display and having some kind of report "discarded because...". It's very frustrating to have seemingly disabled all forms of clipping, and checked everything else one can think of that might block vertices from flowing from the VS to the PS, only to still have the Graphics Debugger show…

                    • Allow IValueConverter to access Page properties

                      I have had multiple scenarios in which my IValueConverter classes need a value from the codebehind. I think that, in many cases, the easiest way to do this would be to access a public property of the page. However, to the best of my knowledge, this is not possible (unless it is a shared constant). I think that this would greatly simplify many scenarios.

                      • Do not deprecate viewing work items in VisualStudio

                        The web view of work items is woefully inadequate. Space is given to areas that have little significance while key areas are squished into a corner to the right. Cannot customize the view and performance is dismal.
                        In VS 2017 the work item content can be displayed in VS, which has a far superior view. I strongly recommend keeping the VS view. Or at least replicate it 1:1 on the web portal.

                              • SQL Query Editor - Keyboard shortcut to switch between Results and Message tabs

                                1. In SQL Server Object Explorer, right-click on a server, and select New Query.
                                2. Write a simple query that returns a resultset.
                                3. Execute it
                                4. Notice how by default, the resultset appears in a new pane underneath the T-SQL code. The pane has two tabs names Results and Message.
                                5. Create a keyboard shortcut that will toggle between the two tabs.
                                6. There is a "Collapse Pane" button. Click it.

                                7. Now there is a single pane with three tabs on the bottom: T-SQL, Results, and Message.

                                8. The same keyboard shortcut should toggle between these.

                                  I think this is more of a bug report: According to the documentation, multiple PexArgument attributes should be able to be specified, eg

                                  • VS2017 installer should keep --locale setting when updating itself

                                    Currently the installer always changes the display language to Windows default after updating itself. Maybe better to keep previous setting.

                                    • Don't scroll the Find Results window while it's searching

                                      While Finding, don't let the Find Results window scroll around. The problem is that for long searches, I want to read existing results while it searches. But under the current scheme, I can't really do that because as I read, the window constantly jumps to the bottom as new search results come in. IDE has too manyplaces where it takes over user widgets (i.e. changes focus, jumps caret, etc)

                                      • Change the Modal Extensions and Updates Dialog to a Non-Modal Tool Window

                                        There are times when I need to switch between Extensions And Updates and something else.

                                        I don't see why it needs to be a modal dialog. It should be a tool window like the Nuget Package Manager window.

                                        • Suggestion: Add instance modifiers to C# (and other languages)

                                          I'd like to be able to do

                                          someFunctionReturningY(x){ somePropertyOfY=4; ... }.DoSomething();

                                          It should also support casting without needing parentheses in the following type of statement:

                                          Z zzz = (Z)functionReturningY{somePropertyOfZ=...; ... };

                                          The same pattern should work for enums too apart from object instances. It is inspired by initializers in C#, e.g. var x = new Test(){someProperty=…}. It’s just a generalization of the same pattern.

                                          E.g. at the scenario shown in the attached screenshots I want to modify an object that GetMetadataFromUI function returns and currently I’m forced to write it in a way that is much more verbose
