NEW! Announcing Limited Preview for Visual Studio Online Code Search

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Provide an option to Open or Save As an attachment from a step in the Test Runner window.

We have several test cases with attachments that need to be saved in a specific location when executing a test, so we need an option from the Test Runner window to Save As the attachment. Currently, clicking on the attachment opens the it in the program associated to the file extension.

        • Mutation Testing within MS Test

I would like to have mutation testing integrated with MS Test.
Mutation testing should be based on information about the code coverage.
Therefore, once the MS Test is run, mutation testing will, optionally, run on set of mutants. This set of mutants will contain faulty source code with mutations being made only at places covered by MS Test suit.
At the end, the user is provided with information about the live mutants. The user can then dissmiss equal mutants (mutants with the same behaviour) and they won't be run in the next mutant testing.

          • auto generate bugs after a automation test run

After my automation tests are run, I want any failed test case to automatically generate a bug report and place it on the specific person of my choise. I want this to be an easy option in test manager that could be configured in the test manager GUI. No coding required so my testers easy could configure it.
And attachments should be possible to be added as well.

            • Customizing Test Results Work Item Type

There should be a way to add custom fields to the TestResults WorkItem to capture specific test result values (outside of the overall Passed, failed, blocked, active values). For instance, if I wanted to capture how many test documents were executed per test and then be able to report on aggregations of that field.

Further, the Test Manager Test Results screen should be extensible to support these custom test result fields.

Here is a link with more discussion on this topic: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/02c501ae-c598-48b8-b8ec-f7a0dce81f39/vs2013-custom-fields-for-test-results?forum=vsmantest

              • Give a nesting ability to the Parameters

Currently, on MTM 2012, adding a parameter doesn't mean you add an iteration on new parameter. Instead it's like an Excel document.

We need an ability to nest parameters so we can create an iteration inside an iteration.
It should look something like this:

                On Plan:
                step 1: For each @Part do @Action

                On Parameters:
                Part: A,B,C...
                Action: Add,Edit,Delete...

                On Test Run:

                iteration Part: A
                -iteration Action: Add
                -iteration Action: Edit
                -iteration Action: Delete
                ...
                Iteration Part: B
                -iteration Action: Add
                -iteration Action: Edit
                -iteration Action: Delete
                ...
                ...

                • HTML report for CodedUI Tests

Please could you implement an imrovement for generating a report from the CodedUI tests, I know the report can be generated from the MTM but something that can be done from the Test Explorer after the regression pack runs and this can be provided as a quick report to the Dev teams or Management teams as per need basis.

                  • Coded UI - Allow user to disable automatic screenshot feature and give them greater control over where these files are stored.

I would love to be able to disable and\or have more fine-grained management over when\where screenshots are taken and stored during a given Coded UI Test run.

A number of users have encountered an issue where our Common7\IDE folders are spammed with a huge number of RPF .png files after every test run. From what I gather, the files are supposed to go to a temp folder by default, but no one seems to have an answer as to why this is happening or a solution or workaround. I'm currently deleting 30 gigs of data daily.

                    • Test Manager - Additional notes for test execution

An area to write notes that appear pop up prior to test execution, nice to haves or need to knows for the tester.

If I build a test plan with a hierarchy of suites, I'd like to be able to start execution on the top level suite and for that to automatically include the lower level suites in the execution

                          • Full Support for SpecFlow within Microsoft Test Manager

Currently integration seems limited with BDD style tools (SpecFlow) in particular. Can we have the ability to automate unit tests written in the BDD style so we can make the full use of Microsoft Test Manager.

We use Microsoft for the whole ALM stack and this is really the only bit that makes us truly automated.

Requirement would be to be able to associate specflow unit tests within MTM and be able to kick off runs against different browsers via use of Lab Manager or otherwise (like the current MS Test functionality does).

                            • Integrate Azure to Lab Management

Azure as Virtual Machine Manager must be integrated in to the Microsoft Test Manager.

So those developers, like i am an many others, who does not have a whole infrastructure with SCVMM installed would be able to fully utilize ALM patterns to test their apps within the custom environments in fast and easy way.

                              • Would be able to clear out testers field on a test case in MTM

Once you have assigned a tester to a test case it is not possible to clear it, only change it to a different value. It should be possible to set this empty if you do not know which person this test case will be assigned to.

                                  • Associate Multiple CodedUI test methods to single testcase in MTM

Currently we can't associate multiple test methods in a Coded UI test to a single testcase in MTM.

This will be useful since , generally we wont try to automate a testcase as a single testmethod.
Fo ease of understanding and maintenance, we split them into small steps.

Testmethods are written as Step001, Step002,Step003 etc

But in MTM when trying to associate, we can select only Step001 or Step002 but not multiple steps.

So it would be great if we have an option in MTM to associate the required steps or dll containing all steps.

                                    Thanks,
                                    Vishnu V. Potti

                                    • Add Search capabilities to MTM

We would like to be able to search for test cases in MTM. We typically search on words within the steps or results or parameters used.

                                      • Enable test case parameter combination auto-generation

Allow automatically generating parameter combinations for test cases.
For example, when I am testing a game, I need to make sure each @Weapon hits each @Enemy would cause the @Weapon.Damage - @Enemy.Armor hit point lost to the enemy. I only need to create a list of all weapons (and each weapon's damage), a list of all enemies (and each enemy's armor value), MTM can automatically generate all combinations base on the 2 list, and make sure each weapon was tested against each enemy.
