I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Add "Position of Preprocessor Directives" to C#

    Add Add "Position of Preprocessor Directives" to C# ala existing functionality of the same nature in C/C++ to C# in Options | Text Editor | C# | Formatting | Indentation. This would allow for custom indenting rules for preprocessor statements, such as one indent to the left, move to the leftmost column (current behavior), and Leave Indented. It would also be nice to see an option that supports this sort of indenting(an additional indent over the one indent to the left option, includes indenting the preprocessor directives part too):

    class MyClass
    {
    void Function()
    {
    #if DEBUG
    DebugPrint();
    #endif
    } …

    • Bring the ctrl+d shortcut from Visual Studio Code

      In visual studio code ther is a feature to Add Selection To Next Find Match. crtl+d is the default shortcut in Visual Studio Code, Atom, Sublime and other good editors.

      • Installer: Clicking on the Workload buckets should not automatically select/deselect the items

        Clicking on the workload buckets in the installer should not automatically (de)select the workload and the associated individual components. The current behavior makes it difficult to preview which individual components are bundled in the workload. Explicitly selecting/deselecting the checkbox for the workload should be required for adding/removing.

        • Ctrl+click to recursively expand/collapse outlining regions

          When Ctrl+clicking the +/- box of an outlining region, expand/collapse all the regions inside this block too. SciTE editor can do this, it's great for productivity.

          • Add possibility to configure source folder for projects

            Give the developer the possibility to configure the source folders for projects.
            This is important especially when generating a solution with tools like premake. In that case the vcxproj file for a project is in a different location from the source files and the "Add new item" dialog will always start from the folder of the vcxproj file. It would be more productive if we could configure this starting path from the IDE for each project, or at least for the IDE to remember the last path used when adding an item in the project.

            • Do NOT remove Silverlight from VS 15

              It appears that Silverlight is being removed from visual studio 15. Given Microsoft public statements "Microsoft continues to support Silverlight, and remains committed to doing so into 2021" this seems very inconsistent with that. We will struggle to run visual studio 2015 in 2020.

              Silverlight needs to be part of visual studio. There are still obviously tens of thousands of people developing for it (based on votes for Silverlight 6).

              There are many people like me continuing to develop Silverlight products. I have shared code on my Web server that is shared with my WPF applications. I need to be…

              • Non-Compile non-code Projects for Visual Studio

                Solutions folders are "virtual" folders that behave very differently from "project" folders that directly match the file tree.

                We often desire the ability to have large folder full of items that are not directly associated with any particular "project" in Visual Studio - for example, a pile of powershell scripts used by the build system. Or shared references that are not being managed by NuGet. Or web-projects that aren't ASP. Or documentation.

                Managing these objects with Solution Folders as non-project items is extremely tedious.

                Since there is no interest in making solution folders easier:
                https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/642861/solution-folders-automatically-mapped-into-physical-folders

                could we make projects handle…

                • Add command/hotkey for completion list navigation

                  When a completion pops up, the only way to move the completion candidate is using arrow keys.

                  Example:
                  After input `Console.WL`, the intellisense window suggests me with `WindowLeft` selected, with `WriteLine` below it.

                  If I want to tab `WriteLine` out, I may have to input more like `Console.WLin` or use DOWN key to select `WriteLine`.

                  Suggestion:
                  It would be great if we can have some hotkey or command to navigate through the completion popup window.
                  Just like what `Ctrl-N` in vim dose [1].

                  So in the example above, I can use some hotkey to select the `WriteLine` without have to…

                  • Ignore spacing in more situations

                    At present you can ignore spaces in declaration statements but I also like to space out (align) other statements.

                    For instance assignments:

                    var1 = 1;
                    vartwo = "two";
                    longvariable = 3;

                    And also event attachment.

                    myevent += handler;
                    alongevent += handler;
                    yetanotherevent += handler;

                    When I reformat a document at the moment, all those additional spaces get removed.

                    • Support .scss-lint.yml for SASS linting

                      It comes from scsslint: https://github.com/brigade/scss-lint

                      This will offer a much better SASS linting.

                        • Shortcut to close a file/tab in visual studio editor

                          In Visual Studio when multiple files are opened (in the tabs) for instance, 25 files and if a file needs to be closed then down-arrow at the far right-end needs to be clicked and choose the file then after it is opened (the tab is made visible), need to click 'x' to close the file.
                          Instead, how about placing an 'x' on the drop-down list itself either in the front or at the end of file (when all the files are shown in the drop-down). This way, there is no need to select the file from drop-down and then close…

                          • Need for Comments or Remarks for Each Item in Solution Explorer

                            It would be confusion consequent upon the files in Solution Explorer were named with formatted code, particularly when the files were becoming more and more.

                            So I suggest you to add a field as comments after each item name in Solution Explorer to describe it as shown.

                            Thanks!

                            • provide effective CLI tooling for running multiple .NET Core projects in Visual Studio

                              Debugging .NET Core web applications that require multiple Kestrel instances is often difficult. For example, consider an Aurelia client application using data provided by a .NET Core Web API that is secured by ASP.NET Identity, authorization through IdentityServer4. This could use three separate Kestrel instances:

                              1. Web API
                              2. IdentityServer4
                              3. Client

                              Using command prompts gets unwieldy, as they are opened outside of Visual Studio and managed manually. It would be simpler to keep track of everything if Visual Studio offered some sort of tooling for opening multiple command prompts and managing them as windows attached to the IDE.

                                • Allow some file types (e.g code maps) to remain unsaved on check-in if they are not part the solution

                                  When debugging, you might create a code map, or inspect a block of xml or json in a new window or create other temporary files that relate to debugging and are not part of a solution. YOu may choose to create an architecture diagram or other throw some notes in a new window too.

                                  You should be able to check-in a changeset or submit a code review without having to save these files. In fact, you should be able to check in with unsaved changes in any window where that window doesn't represent a file that is in the current…

                                    • Comment indentation

                                      Please add the setting for the comment indentation after code formatting.
                                      Current state:

                                      // Comment.
                                      Console.ReadLine();

                                      After Ctrl+K,D
                                      // Comment.
                                      Console.ReadLine();

                                      I'd like to preserve comment indentation.

                                      • just my code enabled/disabled button

                                        There needs to be a command that you can add to toolbars/menus that toggles just my code, as it is often required to change this setting off and on frequently.

                                        • Add a File Explorer Tab

                                          Recently I started using TFS in Git mode. And noticed that I frequently leave the VisualStudio IDE to browse to or work with the local files. And started to pollute the repository with .pssproj files to be able to see all the files in my local workspace via the 'Solution Explorer'.

                                          It would be nice to be able to do all the work from VisualStudio's IDE.
                                          Therefore I suggest to Add a 'File Explorer'-Tab to the IDE.

                                          The 'Source Control Explorer'-Tab makes working with remote files from TFS easy. But there is no 'File Explorer'-Tab to easy work with local…
