I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

    • Re-enable ability to hide collapsed regions when printing

Prior to VS2015, the Print dialog included the ability to choose whether or not to include collapsed regions. That choice has now been removed (as noted in the "Known Issues" here: http://tiny.cc/VSprint). There really needs to be some sort of workaround to allow users to hide collapsed regions while printing.

          • Bring back "Sort usings" as a separate option in VS 2017

In VS 2015, there was a separate option to "Sort usings" along with "Remove and sort" and "Remove unused". I found the "Sort usings" option useful - and even added it to my toolbar - because there are some namespaces I like to leave in the list - like System.Linq - even if they are unused. Even if "Sort usings" were not added to the context menu, could it be added to Edit > Intellisense menu?

            • Fix Find and Replace > Replace in Files so finds all matches before re-searching skipped matches

In VS Find and Replace > Replace in Files seems to repeatedly search skipped matches before finding new matches.

I end up skipping through more and more previously searched files and skipped matches, just to find new matches. The Skip File option doesn't seem to help.

Fix the Replace in Files feature so that it cycles through all files before returning to skipped matches.

              • Don't break hardlink

There is a patch for VS2005 (KB945993): "The hard link of a file is destroyed if you use Visual Studio 2005 to open and to modify either the original file or the hard link".

VS2013 has the same symptoms, but seems no patch.

Could it be fixed for VS2013 and later versions?
Or "saving a file by replacing it" and "exposing it to the end user" is "by design"?

                • property sheet location

In the property manager it is not possible to find out who or which file is importing a certain property sheet.
You see that the property sheet is imported but not where exactly. This makes it very hard to find out.

My suggestion would be that there is a context menu to jump to the file or a property which shows where the sheet is imported.

                  • Allow color customization for structure guide lines

I like the structure guide lines. But I'd like to use a more subtle color for the lines. However, "structure guide lines" or anything like it doesn't exist in the Fonts and Colors choices.

                    • Move Type to Namespace refactoring

Move Type to File is nice refactoring but it does not let us work fast enough when you want to place new files into business, core etc. projects. Resharper and CodeRush have this refactoring, and it would be awesome to have this refactoring in VS2017 out of the box, as it is one of the most used refactoring in Resharper.

                      • Remove/Delete dialog should show up when deleting files in Solution Explorer (VisualC)

When I select one or more files in the solution explorer and press the delete key, I usually get a dialog where I can choose to remove or delete the file.

The problem is that I only get this dialog if the file is aktually stored in the project folder or in a subfolder of the project folder. If the file is stored in another folder I don't get any dialog and the file reference is automatically removed from the solution.

The storage location of the file should not make a difference.

A more detailed description can be found here: …

                          • Make live unit testing configurable

Right now, live unit testing in VS2017 RC will run all all unit tests in the solution. It would be great to restrict it to certain test assemblies (e.g. with file name filter, *.unittest.dll).

Why? Imagine you have a solution with unit tests and integration tests (or even Coded UI tests). In this setup, it's common that you don't want your integration tests run whenever you do a code change.

Or is this already possible? Via test configuration file? I could not find anything.

                            • The 2017 icon looks terrible when pinned to Taskbar

It just looks terrible. This 3D negative look is so out of character with any other icons on Windows, and when it pins to the desktop as shown in the attachment it really looks bad.

                              • Status bar should display encoding, line endings and indentation settings

VS Code display encoding, line endings, tab/spaces and indentation settings in the Status Bar. VS should do the same.

VS should additionally have the options of inferring the settings from the document contents and have ability to convert line endings between CRLF and LF for the selection or the entire document.

VS should also show and allow to change the current encoding (UTF-8 or UTF-8 with BOM). Always default to UTF-8 no BOM.

                                • Support Vue file intellisense in Visual Studio

Vue files are files with one html section, one script section and one css section.
With Vuejs pack 2017 extension, we can somehow have intellisense for Js and css.

However, if you work with Typescript and/or Sass, you can't have intellisense.

To provide compiler informations about used languages, an attribute @lang can be added.

                                  Ex :
                                  <script lang="ts">...</script>

                                  • Do not re-enable IIS Express launch setting in VS2017 if deleted

If you remove the IIS Express launch setting in a dotnet core project in VS2017, the next time the solution is opened the IDE will re-add the launch setting and set it as the default. I would rather have the Kestrel launch setting as a default.

                                    • T4 and Text Transform features in Visual Studio 2017

There’s less resource with T4(text transform) in visual studio 2017, the lack of color highlighting, syntax checking and the lack of vendors, I suggest add some more information about it.

                                      • Make the attach to process dialog resizable

This dialog shows along list. Therefore it should be resizable.

                                        • toggle comment

I'd have short cut key to toggle code block comment out and uncomment out.
On default kyeboard map scheme, to comment out code block, we use Ctrl+K, Ctrl+C, to uncomment out, Ctrl+K, Ctrl+U.

I wanna use "Ctrl + /" to toggle comment code block,
                                          like in Visual Code.
