I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Add context to bookmarks

It would be great to add some key to bookmarks to easily navigate there when needed.
Yes we can use tasks, yet, you have to write on "code" and maintain it, creates "smell", for instance, if I could bookmark important parts of code, specially on "legacy code" I could more easily navigate there.

    • Allow switching focus between foreground windows.

Visual studio has powerful and customizable window layout features. Being able to layout windows in an intuitive and dynamic way greatly increases productivity. Unfortunately, navigating between these windows can be a chore.

Ctrl-Tab brings you to only the most recently used files, and is a different mode of thinking than the currently opened windows.
In vim, for example, you can open windows and navigate between them using Ctrl-W + [hjkl]. Having to rely on the mouse to navigate to adjacent windows is annoying, unnecessary, and happens very frequently.

      • Options Window, About Window and some others do not match dark color scheme.

Some parts of the UI do not conform to the dark theme (Options and About Windows come to my mind, but there are quite a few) and if one is working for a long time with code in a dark themed window opening Options Window is a little dazzling.

        • Hide Files/Folders in Solution Explorer

Please allow for exclusion of files and folders in the Solution Explorer. This is not exclusion from a project - I am using a website in my screenshot - but from the Solution Explorer view itself.

Having directories such as bower_components and node_modules present in the IDE doesn't serve a purpose but appears to take a toll on time when searching for files, opening the solution, etc.

          • Add 'Open Folder in File Explorer' to menu for unloaded projects

Small thing but definetly annoying. This exists for loaded projects, but not unloaded. Yet often when the project isn't loaded it's because it won't load for whatever reason (i.e. upgrading) and we actually do need to view it in File Explorer to do whatever..

            • Keeping tests close to the code by keeping a *.test file packaged with the *.cs file

I'm sure this has been suggested one way or the other but here goes anyway. How about adding a *.test file with a *.cs file packaged the same way WPF package a *.xaml and *.xaml.cs file together? That way your tests are close to the code

                • Create a DataGrid that supports x:Bind as part of the Windows Desktop Extension for the UWP

Windows.UI.XAML.Controls ListView and GridView are nice, but are incomplete when compared to the DataGrid that's part of WPF. I need the performance improvements x:Bind provides in a Data Grid with better column spacing, resizing and eventually column re-ordering. While making WPF handle x:Bind binding would solve this issue, I could also understand creating a few more controls specifically for Windows 10 in hopes that improve on the earlier designs. I would prefer to be able to bind the list of headers separately from the list of items.

                  • Color identifiers

Please colorize identifiers so that they are easier to recognize their purpose at a glance. For example, ReSharper colorizes types, methods, fields/properties, and events all differently. Visual Studio out of the box only colorizes keywords and class declarations.

Roslyn knows all this information about the code- now let the user benefit from it!

                    • Include Code Coverage Analysis in Professional Edition

It's great to see some of the previously Ultimate-only features such as CodeLens moving downlevel to the Professional edition, so thanks! It's maybe too late to do this for RTM, but please consider also including the Code Coverage Analysis tool in the Professional edition of VS 2015 rather than limiting it to Enterprise.

Performing code coverage analysis is an integral part of any unit testing workflow, but it's hard to justify the cost of Enterprise for just this one built-in feature when something like JetBrains dotCover can just be purchased separately.

Cordova-Samples on https://github.com/Microsoft/cordova-samples is a great start, but there needs to be more samples.

How to add front-end packages with Bower.
                                ....

                                  • Make Comments That Refactor With Object Refactors

So if a comment includes the name of an object and you refactor the name of said object the comment also refactors the name. For parsing safety you could potentially prefix the object names that appear in comments with an uncommon character such as ~ or @ or # or etc.

Personally, I hardly ever explicitly refer to object names in comments for this exact reason

                                    • Give some love to the Visual Studio Gallery

Visual Studio Gallery serves thousands of Visual Studio users every day.

As a developer of Visual Studio extensions (and other tools), I'd love to see the Gallery receiving some of the love that the .NET tools and frameworks enjoy.

In particular (but in no particular order):

                                      1. Spruce up the Gallery - the site could use some freshening up, making it a bit more up to date with regards to technology
                                      2. Provide a public API (REST?) for interacting with the gallery: uploading extensions, querying the download count, getting information about a particular package, etc.
                                      3. Support Markdown in the…

Pleased to announce the launch of the new Visual Studio Marketplace preview. The VS Marketplace is the new unified location to get extensions for Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio Team Services.

                                        Take a look at https://marketplace.visualstudio.com.

For now this launches as a preview, so you will still publish and download extensions from the VS Gallery. Over time we will transition Gallery functionality into the Marketplace and add new features.

                                        Thanks!

                                      • VS2015 to automatically save Test Explorer result states

When I close Visual Studio, I want the Test Explorer to remember the current state of all tests run/not run/passed/skipped, and load them back up if I re-open Visual Studio.

I typically have 6000 tests in different outcome states. The tests can take 7 hours to run, so it's not quick to 'run all'.

At the moment, if I close visual studio, the test explorer loses all the previous results, and I can't find a way of saving the results manually.

I also when adding/removing code, I want it to add any new tests without losing the test results, and…

                                        • Proxy Settings Have to be Specified Several Times

For those working behind company proxies, there are now several places where we now have to specify proxy settings:

                                          - NPM - NPM has its own proxy settings stored in a few places. Environmental variables or .npmrc files.
                                          - Bower - Bower has its own .bowerrc file that lives with the bower.config file and you seem to have to create one for each project.
                                          - Git - Yet another set of proxy settings.
                                          - DNX - The DotNet Execution environment has it's own proxy settings that stops package restore working.
                                          - DNVM - Requires setting up proxy settings to allow…
