I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Let "Always Load Automatically" in the modules view do "Load Symbols" automatically

    I have never ever _not_ clicked "Load Symbols" after clicking "Always Load Automatically", so "Always Load Automatically" should automatically load the symbols straight away instead of waiting for the next debugger invocation.

    • Add a "Change Password" link to visualstudio.com

      If I'm logged into the visualstudio.com web page it's not at all obvious how I'd change my password. I had to search on the web for about ten minutes before discovering that I need to use https://account.live.com to do this. Please add a link to <username>.visualstudio.com to quickly access the password change page on account.live.com

      • Exceptions within async partial void method() cause the app domain to crash

        C# allows you to write code as follows...

        public partial class MyCodeGeneratedClass
        {
        public async Task MyCodeGeneratedMethod()
        {
        HttpClient client = new HttpClient();
        Console.WriteLine(await client.GetStringAsync("http://msdn.microsoft.com"));
        MyCustomCode();
        }

        partial void MyCustomCode();
        }

        partial class MyCodeGeneratedClass
        {
        async partial void MyCustomCode()
        {
        HttpClient client = new HttpClient();
        Console.WriteLine(await client.GetStringAsync("http://msdn.microsoft.com"));
        throw new Exception("Boom");
        }
        }

        Calling MyCodeGeneratedMethod in a console application, brought down the app domain.

        In the case of partial methods the return type must be void and you cannot have ref or out parameters. With the proliferation of async methods in libraries, this limitation is now much…

            • TFS 2015 Show "big" build step log in browser without download the build logs

              If I build Unity3d project? I have very big log.
              And I see this message:
              "The log is too big to be displayed in the browser. You can download the build logs and view them offline."

              Сould still show this log?
              May be with pagination.

              • Provide revisions concept to Code Reviews

                When working on a large project it is extremely common to receive multiple comments that result in changes to the original implementation. It would be nice to be able to implement the changes and submit the new code review as a revision of the original. That way a full history of the evolution of the project is maintained, instead of just creating a totally separate review after making the suggested changes.

                • Please make Visual Studio Augmented Reality (AR/VR)

                  I'm thinking that the main development screen could be ANY size, unbounded by my traditional monitor.

                  I could have my unit test lists to my left, TFS work items etc. to the right and the development windows in the middle.

                  I could have a virtual keyboard (with haptic feedback built into some gloves, or some kind of haptic suggestion built into the headset).

                  I could arrange various VS shortcuts around the interface - e.g. put my "Clean, Rebuild & Run" buttons somewhere handy.

                  Highlighting and much of the context-sensitive options such as F12, debugging options (step into/over, etc.) could be…

                    How about something useful for a change for us Windows developers. A free 2016 Office ribbon that would be fully programmable for Winforms.

                    • Generic type arguments inferring

                      Considering generic interface like:

                      public interface IObjectFactory<TObject, TData>
                      where TObject : IObjectInitializer<TData>
                      where TData : class, IData
                      ...

                      And further invocation of interface methods:

                      service.Create<LM<GeoData>, GeoData>();

                      By using inferred types in generics, it would be possible to write

                      public interface IObjectFactory<TObject> // Simplified - ", TData>" no longer necessary
                      where TObject : IObjectInitializer<TData>
                      where TData : class, IData
                      ...

                      And use invocation such as:

                      service.Create<LM<GeoData>>();

                      It would enable programmer to simplify a great deal of code redundancy in backend applications,
                      and provide a cleaner, more readable look to code.

                      • shared projects for asp.net mvc

                        ASP.Net / MVC

                        I very much like the idea of the 'Shared Project' project template.

                        It would be perfect for our team, for this way our shared views, base classes, javascript libraries, images, etc. could be stored and maintained in common Shared Projects.

                        However, in web solutions, this template is not available. Technically I can understand the problems for implementing, but it would be so nice have this feature.

                        What I think is the main problem:
                        You don't want to copy the files in the Shared Project into the web project's file stucture. That would render the whole concept useless.…

                        • C# Event Handler selector in code editor

                          This issue has been around for so many years and frankly I'm astonished this has never been addressed. In some file types without a design surface (like Global.asax) there is no way to easily add event handlers. VB allows this very easily from the dropdowns at the top of the code editor. But, C# inexplicably still lacks this feature after so many years. The workarounds are all non-intuitive (copy and paste) or inconsistent between types. What is so hard about adding it to the dropdowns at the top of the code editor???

                          • Move Cursor and Scrol Screen to Proper Position on Undo

                            When I perform multiple Undo's (CTRL-Z), oftentimes the cursor does not move the right position and I end up having to search the whole file for the change.

                            This is also good if you step away, and want to reacquaint yourself with the previous changes you have made.

                              • Allow setting text editor font size in pixels in addition to points

                                The default Consolas font is too small at 10pt and too big at 11pt. With an option to set size in pixels would give users more flexibility in setting the desired font size.

I have had desktop computers with Windows and Microsoft products with the brand HP being the builder. I have my first Laptop notebook that came with Windows 10. It's BROKEN.

                                    • Fix Find References, Go to Implementation re generic types

                                      If I have a type definition ISomething<T>, and have a number of different implementations (for class Foo, Bar), If I hover over "ISomething<Bar>" and use Find References, I don't want to see any "ISomething<Foo>" nonsense in the results. Show me that if I do it to "ISomething<T>" Same exact thing applies to Go to Implementation.

                                      • VS IDE->Code Maps->Cyclic Dependencies & DI

                                        Hi Guys,

                                        These days dependency injection is very popular in the .NET development. It helps to improve the code in many ways.
                                        But, it makes other things harder, e.g. it gets hard to find cyclic dependencies when dependencies are made via interfaces.
                                        Even worse such errors is not possible to find without running the code in runtime. So if we’re lucky it will fain in tests (with stack overflow) or even worse in the production.
                                        So, it would be amazing to have support for the cyclic dependencies in the both Roslyn Analyzers and Code Maps.
                                        Below there is a very…

                                        • Provide the "http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQLServer/reporting/reportdesigner" XSD

                                          SSRS objects are referencing this schema under the prefix "rd".

                                          It could be really useful for developers who need to generate VS or Report Builder friendly items.
