I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

      • Don't auto enable the Git Source Control Plugin

Our development team (and every other team I've been on) hates the Git plugin for visual studio. We find it cumbersome compared to third-party tools or the command line interface. And it is a performance nightmare, especially with large repositories. This wouldn't be an issue if we could just disable the git plugin by setting it to none in the source control options menu. However, Visual Studio will ALWAYS reenable it if it detects a git repository in the directory of the solution.

We've resorted to regedit-ing to disable it.

If someone wants to turn off functionality, they should be…

        • Appeal to hobbyists and students. I am an elderly hobbyist. Your present approach is overwhelming to me. This market would be small but coul

I am an elderly hobbyist, but there are thousands of children who are learning code in school. Your current approach is overwhelming to a non-professional. I know something about C++, but I can't understand the abbreviations that you use and I don't know what you are talking about most of the time. You might consider a simplified pathway for people like me and my grandchildren. Then show us the way to enter that pathway and progress at our own pace.

          • Solution explorer should illustrate difference between library and executable projects

The icons and property sheets for C# libraries and C# executables are identical. One shouldn't have to bring up the project property page in order to see the difference, it should be obvious from the icon. Or *at least* show the target type on the properties pane when the project is selected.

                • Add refactoring option: "generate local Property" from static DependencyProperty

When developing a control with multiple DependencyProperties, we currently have a snippet option for generating both a static DependencyProperty and a corresponding local Property with getter/setter. However, I would like to see a refactoring option; if I have a DependencyProperty by itself, I would like to right-click it and have the option to "Generator local property" with getter and setter. Conversely, I would like to be able to right-click a local Property and generate a DependencyProperty from it.

                  • additional information in start menu

In the start menu is a list of previous projects. If I hover above one, I get the storage path. Is it possible to display major project information, like type of the project, destination (Android, W10, Web...) and others.

                    • Queuing Test scenario on test agent

                      0

                      Hi Team,

I am writing here due to my unanswered question. My case is simple. I have five UI automation tests all are kept in separate classes along with there [ClassInitialize], [ClassCleanup] and[DataSource("Source"), TestMethod] methods. In these three methods I perform launch -login, test flow and closing application respectively.

I have created load test and added three scenarios with single test each. Three Agents machines are connected to my controller. I want to perform load as below-

                      Scenario1 and Scenario2 on TA1

                      Scenario2 and Scenario3 on TA2

                      Scenario1 and Scenario3 on TA3

                      • Assume current template instance during debugging

In Visual studio C++ debugger, when single-stepping through a template function, Set Next Statement operation should assume current template instance, instead of prompting the user to pick one from the list of instantiations.

                        • Remove using should not remove System

When using the Remove using (or Remove and Sort) it tends to remove System. This is because, most of the time we're using aliases for the System types (int instead of Int32, etc). While this is OK from a compiler point of view, removing System will also break any extension methods that happen to be defined on System-level types.

If System is present in the using list then it should not be removed even if there are no direct references to it (because of aliases). Tools like CodeRush already provide this feature so I tend to use them instead of…

                          • Support multiple Build/Run configurations

Support multiple named Debug/Run configurations instead of just one option for single startup project or multiple. This option is available in IDEs like IntelliJ and give a much more efficient way to selectively run parts of a solution as needed without having to change the configuration each time. Additionally these settings should be stored somewhere where teams have the option to share the configurations by placing the configuration file in source control.

The alternatives are to edit the configuration each time or to use separate solution files for each case. Neither of these are ideal and there is precedent in…

                              • add feature to draw monographs in comments to illustrate code idea (save as png in project folder, referenced by a file positions database)

To do graphics and other things, it sometimes helps to draw a little picture, but there is no way short of a url to have it appear in the editor. I've seen some utilities out there that let you do things like put charts, line drawing, mathematical symbols and geometry monographs, it would be nice to have an open standard for this

                                      • Please support Emacs and other editor keybindings. And PLEASE, allow us to save, export, and import our own bindings.

Keybindings are crucial to developers. Emacs and Bash style bindings have been around for decades. MS once supported Emacs bindings in VS, but it wasn't complete, had three show-stopping bugs (tab-deletion, unable to copy/paste from other apps, and non-overwriting of selected text).

Microsoft really needs to stop taking functionality away and instead, keep classic functionality while adding new functionality.

                                        Thank you!!
