I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Enable HLSL, DirectX and graphics development toolset for the C# language.

    Visual Studio only provides hlsl compilation tools for C++ projects, while C# projects which also use hlsl are left without this facility. This is a glaring inconsistency in the tools provided to each language. C# is meant to be a first-class language yet the DirectX tools which are built in to Visual Studio are not equally provided to C#, this is an unnecessary and arbitrary limitation.

    Developing DirectX applications with C# is becoming easier and there are now more tools than ever to work with this combination of technologies, including SlimDX and SharpDX, both fully capable managed DirectX frameworks (wrappers).…

    • Switch to Clang

      Why?

      Because it compiles code faster on large code bases.
      Because it is more C++11 compliant.
      Because it will be updated with fixes in a timely manner.
      Because it will require less of your maintenance.
      Because you can contribute back to it to make it even better.
      Because you can build tools out of it like Intellisense, static analysis, etc.
      Because MSFT can focus on Visual Studio UI and other elements that make it a nice IDE.
      Because this is what C++ developers would prefer (non-biased opinion here :P ).
      Because code portability is important in this platform diverse world.

      • Fix it so that .NET apps can access HTTP thru authenticating proxy server by default

        If you run a .NET app that needs to talk to the web, and you're behind an authenticating proxy server, then that app will fail to talk to the web.

        Internet Explorer and Google Chrome work, Visual Studio and loads of other Microsoft apps will work. They can all talk to the web. But every .NET-based app or website I've ever seen will fail.

        The implications of this are profound. I've seen umpteen forum posts over the years where people are scratching their heads, wondering what's wrong. I've seen IT guys re-route their users thru special-case connections to the web,…

        • save text files with the newline convention present in the file when opened

          The Visual Studio text file editor has an "advanced save" option that allows me to choose a particular format to save to, every time I save a file.
          However, 99% of the time, the right thing to do is to save the file using whatever convention was present when the file was originally opened. Thus, if I open a file with LF-style line termination, new lines I add should be terminated with LF, and the file should be saved as LF-terminated. If I open a file with CRLF convention, new lines I *** should be terminated with CRLF, and it…

          • VB.Net should be fully supported in ASP.Net VNext , MVC 6

            Yes I do web development and Yes I am a VB !

            So I was horified to read this on the VNext Page on Gitthub "We have no VB support in the work for vNext."

            I Sure urge you to to start some planning about the support of VB.Net in ASP.Net VNext ,,, as Yes I currenty use MVC 5.2.3 in my production sites and hope to be at least able to upgrade to newer versions in the future , in my favorite coding language wich is VB.Net .

            I want support for VB.Net in all new webtech just as…

            • Improve shared projects with global view

              Shared projects are very useful, not only for universal apps development but also to share code between different apps/platforms, for example : Xamarin projects, code sharing between windows 8.1 and windows 10 projects or between to similar apps (6tag and 6sec for example), etc...

              But we can perhaps improve it, with a new way to show all files from a project, including files from shared project. See my illustration

              • Use proper mouse wheel routing

                In the year 2011, maybe it's finally time to handle WM_MOUSEWHEEL by the window under the cursor, rather than using the backward way of handling them in the window with focus?

                • Add support for ALPN to System.Net.Security.SslStream

                  The proposal is to add TLS ALPN support to the System.Net.Security.SslStream API. One of the key applications of this would be to negotiate SPDY or HTTP/2 connection with a server.

                  "Microsoft drove into the TLS working group a new standard called ALPN: [IETFDRAFT-ALPN] Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), "Transport Layer Security (TLS) Application Layer Protocol Negotiation Extension", draft-ietf-tls-applayerprotoneg-00, April 2013, http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-tls-applayerprotoneg-00 This standard uses a TLS extension during the handshake to communicate to the server/client what inner protocol will be spoken over the secure stream. For instance, this is how SPDY and HTTP/2.0 connections are negotiated between browsers and compatible…

                  • Provide an open API to allow us to extend Code Lens (now that Roslyn is open sourced)

                    Please open up the API for CodeLens now that Roslyn is available to the wider public. It would allow to to do some great stuff on the local code. I would not mind a model that only works locally for now, though a server side API would be nice.

                    • Feature Request: Local Fields within Properties

                      A simple property in C#:
                      int MyProperty
                      {
                      get
                      {
                      return _myProperty;
                      }
                      set
                      {
                      _myProperty = value;
                      }
                      }
                      private int _myProperty = 42;

                      Now, imagine the requirement appears that the code must be documented using the /// conventions.

                        The current Webbrowser in WPF is only a wrapper around the IE WebBrowser Control. It would be great to have a native WPF Webbrowser Control.

                        • Make a new Visual Basic 6.0

                          The world needs VB6. That is a real need. VB.NET is dead because it is never had the performance for computer games. The enforced paradigms lead to virtual function table look-ups, fragmented memory and poor cache locality from over using heap memory. The game loop has a strict deadline that will be broken randomly when the framework decides to go around your scheduler and garbage collect everything at the worst possible time. There are ways to disable some of these but it is easier to just use a language built for performance to begin with, namely Visual Basic 6.0.

                          The…

                          • OOTB Rust programming langague support

                            The new Rust programming language is developed by Mozilla.

                            http://www.rust-lang.org/
                            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rust_(programming_language)

                            It gives a very solid infrastructure to write APIs (perhaps even with ABI style).

                            It has some advantages over C APIs, and the compiled code is as low-level as that of C/C++.

                            Please provide OOTB support for Rust in Visual Studio.

                            Thanks.

                            • Faster geometry rendering

                              When we need to visualize very detailed vector graphics wpf is pretty useless. Even the basic transformations, such as pan/zoom take a lot of time (using RenderTransform or GeometryTransform).
                              Pure Direct3D handles it very well, and that's what I would expect from WPF (the geometry is static and frozen).

                              • Improve project F# model

                                Improve F# project model (at least, add directions support). Maybe some extension to the language itself would be pretty good: #require "filename" to indicate that filename must be compiled before current file.

                                • Stop automatically messing with my solution configurations and platforms

                                  Every single time I add a project to a solution, Visual Studio "helpfully" adds to the solution every configuration it finds in the project.

                                  Every single time the project has a platform that the solution doesn't, Visual Studio "helpfully" creates the missing solution platform and also, most annoyingly, "Mixed Platforms".

                                  PLEASE leave them alone. I set them up how I like and I'd like them to stay that way.

                                  Example use case #2:

                                  I create a new project (defaults to x86) and add a Util library (AnyCPU). Wham, I'm only 5 seconds into a new project and I already have…

                                  • Add date time picker control to Windows 8 Metro XAML

                                    date time picker control is a must have control for many apps. It's missing in current Windows 8 Metro XMAL.

                                    • Keep WP7.1 and XNA/WP app development in Visual Studio 2013

                                      In the first preview version of Visual Studio 2013 it's no longer possible to develop apps for WP7.1 or XNA WP apps (WP8 works fine). Please keep this platform supported in this new version of Visual Studio, thanks.

                                      • Basic Refactoring Functionality needed

                                        Right now when I want to make a section of code a method or make some simple refactoring, its not in the box. Rename is there, but its local to the page and doesn't go deep enough. The top 5-10 refactoring types should come in the box.

                                        Merged from another idea: Improve the refactoring tools like code generation, rename, etc.

                                          It would be very beautiful if .Net supports GPGPU programming like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPGPU
                                          especially that know graphic accelerators are in every where from PCs to Phones to Tablets..
