Add MIDI to WinRT to help musicians
Musicians use MIDI. MIDI is not supported for Metro applications. MIDI should be part of WinRT and connect to USB devices and any other kind of MIDI device installed on the PC. One Microsoft employee who is also a musician has suggested a possible inferior solution:
Last Friday Microsoft released a preview Windows Runtime API for MIDI. Check out the //build/ session here:

Although a preview, apps can go live and be deployed to the Windows Store. Please let us know what you like or don't like. Happy app building!
Midi sound notes and midi devices are widely used !
For the sound notes, if we can have a sound notes Library. That we can use very easily, it will be very useful for a lot of applications.
Making winmm available would suffice. But it would be even better to have WinRT api's for MIDI.
I would also like very much MIDI apis to be available in WinRT, even the legacy winmm one would be ok. There is simply no replacement for MIDI. All the keyboards I've owned and, as far as I'm aware, all new digital pianos still support it. Using midi-over-udp with an intermediate computer connected by USB would provide a terrible user experience and break most usage scenarios.
Check out my post (with the image and about UsbDeviceClasses): http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsapps/en-US/72f78574-02c3-4986-8d5f-623b31c89765/midi-devices
Apparently, MIDI was in a "leaked" version of Windows 8.1 (http://justinangel.net/Win81APIs) but has since been excluded from the preview version. PLEASE, put it back in!
Musicians need MIDI in WinRT.

If Microsoft continues to turn on its developers as it has been, Microsoft will perish.
Perhaps Microsoft hate Musician ?
