I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.

    • Well, the font, color and highlight in Visual Studio code is absolutely excellent. Suggest Visual Studio use the same style.

      • names and locations

        Please stop changing website names for MSDNAA/ELMS/DreamSpark/Imagine and the subscriber downloads. This get more and more complicated as time goes by. Just fire the next knucklehead who proposes changing names and locations.

        • Gridview and Data Model Changed so much

          GridView in Windows Forms, WPF or ASP.net is something I could use to load XML feed or other datasources (like sqlce, sql server) and base a significant part of an application. UWP disappeared DataTables etc, Changed Gridview, networkink and rearranged namespaces. It has also much less examples in VB.net so I'm not able to make something work as I could before! Too much errors, to many namespaces, bindings etc. Please make it simpler and clear!

            • don't immediately reduce the canvas height for the Forms designer when making forms smaller

              When reducing a Form height that outsizes the window it's in, the window immediately scrolls with your cursor as you reduce the height, making it very difficult to properly adjust the height.

              • new project with same settings

                Allow the creation of a new project with the same set of include directories and linker dependencies as the open project.
                This would remove a lot of manual work and potential errors.

                  • Razorviewcompile all views so you can see the errors in the error list

                    I might have missed this completely but it seems as the only way I can get the razor view errors is to open the view-file and wait a while (couple of seconds). And it doesn't always work. I have worked for four days trying to upgrade everything from netcoreapp1.x to dotnetcore 2.1.0-preview1 and efcore (same version leap) and with a large web project this is a nightmare. So it would be nice to do a razorviewcompile or similar to get VS to compile all view and show the errors from all views in the project.

                    • Please bring back the local editor for tasks/bugs/work items!

                      I really hate the Online VSO editor for work items and always used the local editor in VisualStudio but now since I upgraded to VS2017, when I double click or "Open" a work item, it kicks me over the the browser and opens the item with VSOnline. Please bring back the local editor

                      • COM pointers should be able to create instances without a type argument

                        Currently when creating a COM object and store it to a COM smart pointer the code looks like this:

                        _ConnectionPtr connection;
                        connection.CreateInstance("ADODB.Connection");

                        or like this:

                        _ConnectionPtr connection;
                        connection.CreateInstance(__uuidof(Connection));

                        In most (if not all) cases only one string is valid - in this case the "ADODB.Connection". The COM ptr should be able to be created without passing anything as an argument:

                        _ConnectionPtr connection;
                        connection.CreateInstance();

                        This IS possible to be implemented as a macro _COM_SMARTPTR_TYPEDEF already has the second argument the uuid - in this case it is _COM_SMARTPTR_TYPEDEF(_Connection, __uuidof(_Connection));

                        • make a combined view

                          I'm frequently building all or part of my solution with 17 projects on a machine with 4 cores each of 2 threads (total 8 "cpu"'s to build on)

                          I'd like a view which combines information from the output pane, the error list pane and the build order dialog.

                          When a build is started the view should list all those projects included in the build. Next to each project it should list a status Waiting(yellow), Building(Black), Succeeded(Green) or failed(Red) together with number indicating the number of errors, warnings and messages issued so far. Of course a line of total counts at…

                              About Dispose and Finalize (as seen from a VB coder):
                              - Implementing IDisposable should create the same code in VB and C#
                              - When implementing IDisposable in a subclass, the iDE should check the base class whether it implements IDisposable and create the code in the subclass accordingly
                              - the documentation should describe how to implement IDisposable pattern in a class hierarchy
                              - and how to implement it in a multithreaded environment
                              - document Dispose/Finally and its subleties in a single, comprehensive sample. At the moments, there are hundreds of fragements flying around

                                  • Provide a link to MSDN Documentation about each install package

                                    I love the install experience now. It's much better than the old one.

                                    That said, would it be possible to provide a link to MSDN or StackOverflow documentation about each install package?
                                    Things like: what it is, what the dependencies are, and who might be interested in installing it. Also, if there are extra license fees associated with a product (Xamarin, for instance).

                                    Thanks!

                                    • HtttpClient.GetStringAsync support for auto ignore zero bytes

                                      When I use HttpClient.GetStringAsync method to grasp web page data, some web page data returns several zero bytes in the middle of the full web page bytes, so, when we use GetStringAsync method to get the full content text, it will return the content just before the first zero byte.

                                      and I had to add customized codes to remove those zero bytes. so I wish C# can do this for us, tks a lot

                                      public static async Task<string> GetWebPageContent(HttpClient _httpClient, string url)
                                      {
                                      string content = null;
                                      byte[] source = await _httpClient.GetByteArrayAsync(url);
                                      byte[] target = new byte[source.Length];
                                      int sourceIndex =…

                                      • Should be able to code and run visual studio applications on any platform .

                                        It was better if visual studio complete IDE is available for all major platforms just like android studio. Anything is possible.

                                        • Allow SQLBulkCopy to export from SQL to text files

                                          Allow SQLBulkCopy to export from Tables or TSQL queries to text files. Yes, BCP can do this, but it is not an ADO.NET solution, and it can require external Format files to work properly.

                                          Thank you for your consideration.
