I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. When removing all source code/classes/... in a file, provide a quick action "Delete this file"

    Sometimes, I decide on removing an entire class from my project or moving it to another place. After doing so and leaving a file (e. g. ".CS") that only contains an empty framework like:

    using System;

    {

    }

    Visual Studio IDE should send me a suggestion to delete the file in order to save me unnecessary work by searching the file myself via the sometimes HUGE solution explorer.

    Regards

      • VS2017 Checkout Window should have select all/none option

        Using VS2017 with VSTS, when I go to checkout a project for edit in source control, the checkout Window doesn't allow me to select all or select no files.

        All I want to do is checkout my vbproj file, but to do this I would need to manually deselect hundreds of other files. Would be much simpler to have a global checkbox above all others that would select all/none when changed.

          • Let a visual studio customer know how long it will take to upgrade

            Depending on speed of hard drive, memory, processor give user an estimate of minimum downtime during install. Couldn't use my computer for about 3 hours + while it installed. I was thinking like 20 minutes.

            • run tests should queue if it isn't available

              For some reason in my instance of the IDE and project, VS takes a good 30seconds to a minute after the tests are complete or after it tells me there was a compile error before it will let me run the tests again. And during this time, Ctrl-r, Ctrl-t is unavailable.

              It would be much nicer if run tests command was still available and if it can't run the tests immediately, it puts the command on a queue that will get run as soon as whatever is happening finishes. (I have no idea what VS is doing for 30 s…

                • tie visio api into generic workflow api

                  I would like to create a program that will highlight Visio objects synchronously as I run my app through a simple HTTP request response protocol using HTTP. The idea is so no matter what program or language is running I can see the workflow light up and then tie it and meter it will power point for displaying and presenting.

                  • Incorporates "comprehension expressions" like python in C#

                    Comprehension expressions are powerful when you work with lists. They are very simple to use and with less code it's able to solve many difficult problems.

                    So, here is some examples of comprehension expressions:

                    var L = new {1, 2, 3, 4, 5};
                    for(var i = 0; i < L.length; i++)
                    ... L[i] += 10
                    ...
                    Result:
                    [11, 12, 13, 14, 15]

                    Now with comprehension expression:

                    var L = new {1, 2, 3, 4, 5};
                    L = {n + 10 for n in L}

                    Result:
                    [21, 22, 23, 24, 25]

                    Another sample using filter:

                    var M = new [,]
                    { …

                    • Intellisense popup window should have checkbox bar to filter properties & event types

                      I've always wanted this feature for visuals studio...

                      When I'm in the editor and I active intellisense by typing, for example:

                      Button btn = new Button();
                      btn. <--- add this point the intellisense pop window open with suggestions....

                      Why can't we have a toolbar on the small popup window with checkboxes to filter the intellisense output....by default they are all unchecked meanign you see every object in intellisense popup... When I want only a property in the list and i don't want to see events, or namespaces, and I don't want to see public variables...

                      under this case I click…

                      • Allow to initialize multiple fields to the same value in one statement at constructor call

                        When using http://github.com/zoomicon/ZUI I would like to write:

                        FloatingWindow window = new FloatingWindow()
                        {
                        Content = display,
                        Title = IconText = title
                        };

                        but I have to write:

                        FloatingWindow window = new FloatingWindow()
                        {
                        Content = display,
                        Title = title,
                        IconText = title
                        };

                        instead. For consistency, I'd prefer that it supported such assignment. Now it thinks IconText is some external field or similar

                        • Allow defining operators that do not involve the class they are being defined in

                          Right now if I want to define a user defined operator, it has to be defined in one of the classes involved in the operation. I want to be able to define operators for third party classes.

                                I can use vs 2012 C# version to generate .net 2.0 or later application!

                                • loosen c# langauge to allow static functions in namespace and port python math libraries to .net

                                  personally, I think python and javascript sucks as a language... I wish somebody would find a way to map the python and javascript api's into .net so we could get rid of them and use a real program language for everything...

                                  if you have to make c# a little less object oriented and more functional to do that...its worth messing the c# language up to do it just to get rid of the sucky python and javascript languages that everybody loves to hate...

                                  biggest flaw of c# is that it doesn't suck enough to complete with sucky languages like python…

                                  • vs2012 C++ with update 1 for desktop can't develop .net 2.0 or 3.0, 3.5 application! C# can!

                                    I want to develop .net 2.0 or later desktop application for WINXP, Vista, WIN7, but vs 2012 C++ with update 1( express edtion or professional) can't do this, I have to try all method include choose .net 2.0 framework in professional edition (for express edition ,I changed the project file target framework section from 4.5 to 2.0).

                                    But the generated binary file still need .net 4.0 to run.

                                    I can use vs 2012 C# version to generate .net 2.0 or later application!

                                    I like vs 2012 C++, I don't want to use C#!!!
                                    and I don't want to install vs…

                                      • Allow new in C# without giving Type

                                        see https://zoomicon.wordpress.com/2015/08/23/suggestion-allow-new-in-c-without-giving-type/ for a description of this suggestion

                                        Instead of

                                        List<CultureInfo> result = new List<CultureInfo>();

                                        in C# I’d prefer to be able to write

                                        List<CultureInfo> result = new ();

                                        inside the () one would be able to pass contructor parameters and also they should be able to use

                                        SomeClass v = new (someParam) { someProperty = …, otherProperty = … };

                                        syntax, that is be able to initialize properties of the class

                                        The idea is to allow syntax like:

                                        SomeClass v = new (someParam) { someProperty = …, otherProperty = … };

                                        and

                                        Type v = new (…){…};

                                        which is…

                                        • When using linq.select to slighly modify an existing model

                                          Instead of adding every single field... only add the modified field that needs to be modified. use elipses before and after the modified part which signifies that nothing else need change. Sort of like an auto auto mapping function for simple mods except the parts that change.
