Change release variables' value when deploy a release
This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
In Build definition for VSTS, variables are allowed to change their values at queue time. Could this feature be available in release: when deploy a release the variables' value could be changed?
We are excited to let you know that we are working on this suggestion. We expect to release this on the service in 2-3 months.

Awesome!!! This is done and available now as described in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/vsts/release-notes/2018/jun-19-vsts#set-a-variable-at-release-time Usage with REST API explained here http://chamindac.blogspot.com/2018/08/setting-vsts-release-variable-values-at.html
Hi, I entered here to suggest the same... any updates? will it be available on TFS too? Thanks

Is there a release roadmap for this item? VSTS & TFS?
I would also like to add --- a killer feature here would be approval-time variables, linking an approver to a set of variables.
Any Updateds, this would really help!
Can you please have an update on this item?

Another use case that needs to be supported is Change Control numbers passed in as variables. The production change controls will not be logged in some cases until the UAT/PreProd deployments are tested and signed off. Shame this feature has taken 18 months to be considered.
