How can we improve Azure DevOps?

Add Sprint Goals to Iteration Backlog and Task board

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
Allow a Sprint Goal to be added, and displayed on the iteration backlog and/or task board. Currently, there is no way of clearly stating sprint objectives.

We’ll send you updates on this idea

As explained in this blog post (, we had updated the status of this suggestion to “Under Review” to let you know we are tracking it on our backlog. To better indicate which one we are actively working on or which ones are on our 6-month plan, we introduced the states “Started” and “Planned”. The goal is to give an update on in progress suggestions at least every 3 months. This suggestion is still on our backlog, but they are not part of the 6-month plan.

I tried the link which is given by Kees Schollaart, but no luck with it, I have TFS 2015 and no tab is appearing.

Any update on this one? It would be very useful to contextualise the sprint board with the goal written on it.

yes, the ability to show sprint or iteration goal on sprint/kanban board would be a good feature in order to communicate sprint goal to the team.

All of our process documents are inside TFS except Sprint Goal and sprint retrospective documentation

The only thing we keep outside vsts at the moment, not a nice workflow. A small change that gives a lot more meaning to the 'sprint' artifact.

Adding this to the Sprint Board would be a simple and effective way to reinforce the goal within the team and to share outside the team.

If you could indicate the goal as complete/incomplete at the end of the sprint then that would be even better.

Hi, 6 months have passed - is there any updates on this topic?
Sprint goals are the key piece of information if we take into account agile practices!

As a workaround, we added a work item type called "Sprint Info" that is tied to the specific iteration path and has a HTML tab for Sprint Goals and a second tab for Sprint Retro information/attachments. The teams can query for this and relate it to other work item types if it makes sense to do so.

We need this functionality as well, currently we're creating a top-priority PBI just stating the goal to work around the missing functionality.

It would be beneficial if we could set sprint goals in each sprint to communicate a clear purpose to our team members.

This is a requirement for our team to switch to VSO from our current project management software.

        Many reasons for this:
        1. Capture sprint goal
        2. Capture team commitment in point. Once sprint starts and points are adopted this figure is no longer available currently
        3. Summarize extenuating circumstances for historical records. Such as "one team member on extended leave", "support emergency pulled staff for two days", "major requirements change mid-sprint"

Completely agree with this. The Sprint Goal should be available on the kanban board for all to see.
