How can we improve Azure DevOps?

Add the ability to Filter by/Group by Area on the backlog

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
We use area to group backlog items and it would be very helpful to be able to sort, group, and filter by area on the backlog in the list and board view. In the board view of a backlog item, have a dropdown similar to person on the normal sprint board with other filter options such as area, state, etc

Our application group is considered one team with responsibility for a wide range of products.
We have tried the approach with adding teams for each product in our application group, which seemed like a good idea due to the lack of grouping boards by area paths. The conclusion however was that it only added overhead and confusion within the group.

No need to filter by area path.

In the new view (preview interface), you can achieve drag/reordering of items in the backlog that have differing area paths. Do this by creating a team for each area path you want to manage. This action creates a backlog for that team. Then structure the area path hierarchy as you need. Create teams corresponding to parent nodes in the area path hierarchy. The backlog view for these teams gives you the ability to drag/reorder items with differing area paths.

There has to be a reason why this feature hasn't been implemented yet. Are we attempting to drive the tool wrong? Or would this feature break other components somehow?

Both Areas and sub-areas filters are a strong need, otherwise the sub-area functionality is useless. Any status on this?

It is 2018 now and looks like we don't have this in VSTS yet. Any plans to bring this feature?

I too am currently baffled why this filter option isn't available on the Backlogs page.
You can filter by Area on the Work Items page, why not here too? I don't want to have to use Tags (or other means) instead.

The portfolio management scenario necessitates this. Portfolio owners need to be able to filter their backlogs or boards to a specific Area Path (representing a "product" in their portfolio) to reduce visual noise and facilitate more efficient planning. Currently, Area Path filtering is only supported in queries and you can't prioritize work items in query results via drag & drop. Adding Area Path filtering to backlogs and boards allows for easier prioritization and reduces visual noise.

+1 for this to be implemented - i notice in the new work items functionality that area path is an available field for filtering, just need this on the backlogs now.

Please implement. Can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able filter by area path when all of the VSTS documentation encourages organizing work by area path.
