  1. Support querying for "all test cases in a specifed test plan" a.k.a add work item links between test plans, test suites and test cases

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365533/support-querying-for-all-test-cases-in-a-specifed.html
Since TFS 2013 Update 3 test plans and test suites are regular work items, but there are of no practical use in work item queries, as there are no links between them and test cases.

With the links, I could create a query to list all test cases in a specified test plan. In Test hub or MTM I can export such list to email or print to PDF, but there is no way to get it in Excel format, which would I…

  2. Add the ability to use the same shared step multiple times with different parameters in the same iteration

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365405/add-the-ability-to-use-the-same-shared-step-multip.html
At present you can use a shared step multiple times in the same iteration, however, you can only use it with the same parameter values.

It would be extremely useful from a test case design perspective if you could use a shared step multiple times in the same iteration with different parameter values each time the shared step is used.

  3. Allow Shared Steps to be created within Shared Steps

Currently Shared Steps cannot be created within other Shared Steps as the Insert Shared Steps, Create Shared Steps, Open Shared Steps right-click menu options are grayed out.

  4. Add spesial permitions for deliting tests, tests cases and tests suites

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365805/add-spesial-permitions-for-deliting-tests-tests-ca.html
Our work process assumes that no employee can delete work items. All deletions are controlled through tickets. For most people that is ok, but not for testers. They create series of dependent test suites \(looks like subfolders to them) and need to delete them often. However, those "subfolders" basically are work items, and they can be deleted only if you have permission "permanently delete work items" which can be assigned only at PROJECT level. This is not possible to restrict users to delete…

  5. Improve Test Runner in Microsoft Test Manager

Here are my suggestions for improving Test Manager:-

*The Active Step currently being tested, should always remain in the middle of the dialog and the steps should vertically scroll automatically so that the current step remains in the middle

*When the test runner reaches a shared step, then it should go by default to the first step in that shared step. Currently it skips the shared step out when using CTRL-WINDOWS-Q to move on a step

*Whilst it is useful to see the physical Parameter Name when testing the test at the "Design" stage, it is not required when running…

  6. Exporting Test Cases with Steps to Word/Excel

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365668/exporting-test-cases-with-steps-to-wordexcel.html
Currently, it is not possible to export the test cases with the steps directly to Excel. I know you are giving the excuse of the Grid view, but this is no match for Excel capabilities. It is staggering that you are making it tough to use another Microsoft product like Office along with VSTS. Grid view is a lousy concept which is not at all required if the export/Import option is available. Is it that difficult to convert to HTML format from Excel…

  7. Creating a detailed test report showing results of test case steps and bugs associated to the test cases failed

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365811/creating-a-detailed-test-report-showing-results-of.html
Should be possible extract a detailed Test Report per Test plan to send to stockholders with the following information:
    - Worksheet with Test Cases and respective Outcome (Pass / Failed / Active)
    - Worksheet with the detailed test cases and results
    - Include in failed Test Cases associated bugs
    - If bug will be fixed in next release, have a place in report to indicate that
    - Worksheet with Smoke Tests performed
    - Worksheet with ExploratoryTests performed

  8. Find and Replace for Test Steps

As in Excel it would be nice to have a Find and Replace (Strg+F) function. This would make the creation of Test Cases easier.
Sometimes you I copy a Test Case and just have to change one term but in different test steps. ATM I have to do it one by one.

  9. Ability to Permanently Delete Test Plan / Test Suite

We are currently using TFS 2015 Update 3.

Creating a Test Plan creates 2 Work Items, 1 of type Test Plan and 1 of type Test Suite.

If we delete the Test Plan from the Iteration, the 2 associated Test Plan / Test Suite Work Items are not deleted.

We can't delete either Test Plan / Test Suite Work Item and we can't restore them. They are now unusable.

Attempting to delete using witadmin destroywi command fails with the following warning and error:
Warning: This command is obsolete in TFS2015 Update 2 and later. You can permanently delete work items…

  10. Allow moving of Test suites from one test plan to another without losing the run history

We are using an agile development methodology, but as we work in retail, business needs sometime upend our ability to complete our sprint work. We are using a Sprint Level test plan to track the work of all 4 of our scrum teams that is ready at the end of each sprint for deployment. When we are unable to get testing completed by the end of sprint on any functionality, we withhold that code from the release and move any unfinished dev or qa to the next sprint. Unfortunately, if we are actively testing at the end of the sprint…

  11. [VSO] Test Cases should be linked automatically to their corresponding Test Suits and/or Test Plans

I created a Test plan under the TEST area in Visual Studio Online. Then I added some Test Suits and Test Cases.
Then, I wanted to add a Widget to the dashboard showing all "Ready" Test Cases for this Test Plan.
However, I notice that creating that query there was not linked between the Test Cases, Test Suits and Test Plan

  12. Link Related automatically added to requirements

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365981/link-related-automatically-added-to-requirements.html
In the actual version of VSTS, if I created a bug with Test Run from a Required based Test-Suite, the system automatically adds a Parent link to the bug.
It'd be very nice if the option "Bugs are managed with requirements" is selected, that a Related link to the bug is added. So the bug'd be at the same level of requirements.

Infact now, although the "Bugs are managed with requirements" option is selected, and should be possible give them a priority (see…

  13. Add cloning function under Test Tab in Web Access

In the MTM application we have the ability to clone the test plan which is a widely used and highly desirable feature. We'd like to be able to clone test plans in the web access of TFS under the Test tab.

  14. Queries joining work items and build test results

In our attempt at a more BDD approach, in addition to test pass/fail reporting on our CI and deploy builds, we would like to report on the number or % of test cases with respect to user story for which are run in each level of tests CI (automated fast) deploy (automated slow) or manual. Basically we are looking for a live traceability matrix.

We can see that it is possible to link the test cases with the MsTests in the code using the tcm tool, but we do not see a way to report the test results with respect…

  15. Allow us to query for test cases with no test steps (validation reporting)

This is helpful for test managers who want to do validation reporting to ensure that there aren't any unused or unfinished test cases sitting around.

This can currently done but not elegantly. See the attached screenshot for an example of how to currently query for test cases with no test steps.

This could be resolved by allowing us to query a field that counts the number of test steps that a test case has.

  16. Manual Test Case Execution Results in VSTS Data Analytics Service

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/366137/manual-test-case-execution-results-in-vsts-data-an.html
We recently were able to migrate from TFS to VSTS and we love it. However, one huge issue we’re encountering is the lack of Test Execution Data in the VSTS Data Analytics Service. Our company has a lot of manual test cases and executions. With on-prem TFS, we built really fancy SSRS reports directly against the TFS Data Warehouse database and management loves these report. Now that we’re on VSTS, we lost all of those reports, and the Test Execution Data is not…

  17. Show requirement based test suite outcomes on backlog item

It would be nice to see the outcomes of requirement based test suites on the backlog item. It would also be great to be able to add this field as a column on the backlog itself.

The benefits of this would be to quickly gauge the testing status of backlog items during an iteration. Having a requirement tested may be in the teams definition of done and having this information available on the requirement itself would give the user more information to be able to move that item to 'Done' or some other state.

Please see attached image examples showing…

  18. Exploratory testing creates test cases as children, not Tested By

When you create a test case from an exploratory test session, it feels orphaned. You can't see the new test case associated with the PBI on the Kanban board, nor can you see the test case in any test plans.

When you look at the links to the PBI, all other test cases are associated with the PBI via the "Tested By" link type. Test cases associated to the PBI from Exploratory testing are associated via the "Child" link type.

This is confusing, I would expect it to be the same, and would certainly expect the test case I just…

  19. Option to set the test runner to have the 'Comments' field always whether the step is pass or a fail

Currently, the Comments field in the test runner is only available when the step is fail. We can use this field to enter the Actual result and so it will be great to have an option to display this field always.

Also, make it possible to include the comments field in the out-of-box export.
