  1. customize "search work items" query

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/379592/customize-search-work-items-query.html
The current "search work items" text box (in web access & visual studio) searches for the given text in fixed fields (Title, Description, Repro steps).

However I would like to customize that to add the (in our case) "Description HTML" field. Since our work items still use that field (from previous version of TFS).
Further I could imagine adding an custom TFS field and also be able to default search in that field.

(BTW I know about the possiblities described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc668120.aspx for…

You can search work items using custom fields e.g. I can do a : value and it should work just fine. E.g. I just did a “reason:duplicate” and it showed all the bugs that were resolved as duplicate.

Please let me know whether you are looking at other similar capabilities.

    Thanks

  2. Enable multiple work item fields mapped to the IterationPath

We have multiple fields related to the iteration of the bug. The first is the iteration the bug was discovered in, the second is the target fix iteration, and the last is the actual fix iteration. We would like to be able to have each of these three pull from the Iterations list in work items. While we can make the first and last regular text fields, this may result in typos and thus degrade search. It also requires users to know the iterations available.

See http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/tfsworkitemtracking/thread/28edbc9d-21f1-47b2-9679-81f0d2ffbc29/#8848107b-b9b1-418e-81db-1e4ccbdf832f for a discussion on this topic.

  3. Work Item Type Definition: <REQUIRED> should work for System.AreaPath field

As a work item customizer, I want to be able to easily define the Area and/or Iteration path fields as a REQUIRED field (which is not possible today with TFS 2010 easily).

As explained in this blog post (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visualstudioalm/archive/2015/10/08/how-we-use-user-voice-to-make-a-better-product.aspx), we had updated the status of this suggestion to “Under Review” to let you know we are tracking it on our backlog. To better indicate which one we are actively working on or which ones are on our 6-month plan, we introduced the states “Started” and “Planned”. The goal is to give an update on in progress suggestions at least every 3 months. This suggestion is still on our backlog, but they are not part of the 6-month plan.

  4. Pull Requests for Wiki

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365737/pull-requests-for-wiki.html
The built in Wiki functionality is great, and allows team to easily share code.

One feature that my team feels is missing is the ability to easily create a branch off the wikiMaster, make changes, then submit a Pull Request for those changes in VSTS. This functionality would allow changes to wiki content to be gated / reviewed in a similar manner to how Pull Requests are used for code changes.

If this is not easily do-able, then exposing the {projectName}.wiki git repository…

The pull request workflow is available with Code Wiki. You can create a branch, edit, create PRs and moderate content that goes to Master branch. Is there something else that is required to be able to create PRs for Wiki? If not, then I will close this as completed.

  5. Customize Work Item State after PR is closed

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365704/customize-work-item-state-after-pr-is-closed.html
With update from https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/articles/news/2017/jul-14-team-services#code we will get the feature "Automatically complete work items when completing pull requests"

When we close our PR "only" the code review is completed. But the acceptance criteria tests are still open.

Please add an option to customize work item state settings after a PR is completed, so DONE is not the only choise.

  6. Build support for external submodules that require authentication

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365517/build-support-for-external-submodules-that-require.html
Submodules work in the new build system in TFS/VSTS 2015 however, they either need to come from repos in the same team project or from repos that are anonymously accessible.

This suggestion is split from "Add submodule support in Visual Studio Git Extension" (http://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/330519-team-services/suggestions/3606383-add-submodule-support-in-visual-studio-git-extensi)

  9. Customise VSTS email templates

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365760/customise-vsts-email-templates.html
It would be incredibly useful if email templates used around VSTS could be edited, with the possibility to add additional information about a work item, or to customise the subject heading of the email.
It would also be excellent if you could select which template to use for each notification trigger.

For my own use case, it would be ideal if I could add one of our custom fields to a template and alter the subject of the email based on the notification…

  10. FIPS

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365471/fips.html
Use FIPS compliant algorithms if FIPS policy enforcement is enabled on the server. Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guides require that FIPS policy is enforced: http://www.stigviewer.com/stig/microsoft_dot_net_framework_4.0/2014-01-08/finding/V-30926

This applies to all US Department of Defense. It is understood that MD5 is much faster and might not even be used for security reasons (i.e. using MD5 to generate a hash to determine file differences on version control check in). However if FIPS is enabled, why not use a FIPS compliant algorithm?

    It is much…

  11. Support pull requests from different repositories

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365465/support-pull-requests-from-different-repositories.html
So, our company is split. Product development and projects. Recently the product team wanted to deploy the new TFS git features to use a PR based workflow. We cannot.

Short version: Please allow pull requests from other repositories/forks.

This solves a number of issues:

    - Right now write access would be needed to the target repo [2] [3]
    - Right now there are no security limitations. "Can send a PR" means "can change our code"

So far, PRs are 'incomplete' as far as…

  12. Disallow TFS checkin policy override

The ability to override checkin policies is in some cases absolutely unwanted. If I use policies I have fairly reasons to do them and dont't want it can be overridden...
'No override allowed' will be much more useful than generate a list of overridden policies and will help enforce code quality.

Rebase and merge pull requests is functionality in github that would be useful for pull requests which shouldn't be squashed. Otherwise you'd have to make multiple pull requests to keep your tree clean.

Enable support to embedd graphics made with draw.io likewise available with confluence (atlassian). Store raw data of graphic (in general xml) on backing git repository too and embedd by using for example a specific draw.io tag.

  16. Make it possible to disable Team Project

It is possible to stop a team project collection from the TFS Administration console, however there is no functionality to stop a Team Project.

My enterprise follows a code freeze policy, during this time we would like to disable the team project completely, no changes to work items, code base, etc. The work around is changing the user group permissions, but that would mean changing the project meta, while ideally you do not want to do this when you are managing over 200 team projects.

Appreciate if there any work around that I might have missed...

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365592/recycle-bin-for-build-definitions-and-release-defi.html
As things stand currently, if someone deletes a build definition or a release definition there is no path to recovery short of restoring a backup. This isn't always possible especially given how quickly events move in TFS. Even restoring a TPC into a different environment can create problems. Given that recycle bins are now a feature in work items, I'd like to see this functionality extended to build definitions and release definitions....or at least if we can see who deleted a given definition…

  19. Make it easier to find related work items for pending changes

Please make it easier to find related work items from the new pending changes view. I would like to see a search box instead of a text box to enter a difficult to remember unique ID. If I absolutely must drag & drop work items to this canvas, then I would like an easier way to open up a work item query without having to navigate away from the pending changes view. I'm surprised this wasn't addressed in the Beta as I can't imagine anyone actually who has used this preferring it to the old way of associating work items…

  20. Add Visual Studio Team Services to the UK data region

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/365732/add-visual-studio-team-services-to-the-uk-data-reg.html
Many UK development teams would find VSTS appealing compared to TFS due to the lower administration overhead with the hosted service, but are unwilling/unable to move to it because of regulatory or comfort-level concerns regarding storage of their team project assets outside of the UK.

By adding VSTS as a service to the UK Azure data region, this will alleviate UK data-at-rest concerns and increase usage of the service within the country.
