Visualize Blocked Task in Task board
In TFS 2012 (Scrum Template) you can set a Task to Blocked. Problem is you need a query to see a task is blocked. I suggest Visualizing it in the Sprint board so that Team member know the item is blocked.
We understand the importance of this scenario, but during the investigation we determined that future additions to the process customization will have better support to implement a real blocked scenario. We are going to hold off of this one for a little bit longer and wait until that work is finished. That does not mean that we forgot about this at all!
As a work around you can add a blocked tag to your work items and use the tag coloring on the board to show these tags in red.
A blocked card must to be very visible. An icon "Stopped" or "Blocked" (customizible or not) displayed on cards when the field "Blocked" is Yes will be better. As that, we can continue to use card colors to categorize User Stories or tasks.

The problem with Styles (in general) is that they are Card Style thus only show on the Task Boards and are per Team (not global)!
I am using TFS 2015 and was able to accomplish flagging blocked tasks in the task board by using the new Styles Rule in the setting menu of the task board. Create a new rule -> Rule Criteria: Field="Blocked", Operator="=" Value="Yes" then set you card color.

There is a TamperMonkey script that does this
This works great in TFS2015, but I still miss the option to flag a card when its predecessors are not yet Done.
Will this new feature be available in the Agile template also?
Is this going to be supported for Visual Studio Online? I see some comments referring to only on-premise...
Showing a blocked (no entry) water mark under the Task card would be helpful.
Also on the Task Board it would be useful to drag one task on top of another to pop up a small dialog on how to link them with the default being that the task being dragged is blocked by the task it was dropped on to - I think that could be really helpful as well.
@SamB - here's where we're at. We delivered conditional formatting on cards to VSO in July. See https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/news/2015-jul-7-vso. This isn't a "first class" blocked field... but does allow you to do what we're talking about in this item. This capability just missed our TFS 2015 deadline... but will be included in TFS 2015 update 1.
Thanks Aaron. Is this ready for release yet? We're missing the task box being a different colour to show a blocked task hugely!

Check out http://pascoal.net/2014/06/team-foundation-task-board-enhancer-version-8-3-released/ for an extension that does this (on-premise).

How soon is this coming? We are using TFS 2015. We need it badly and don't want to introduce another state. We really want a flag that can show on the task board. Want to be able to apply a the feature, story, and task level.

+1. Essential to see if a task is blocked so that the reason can be dealt with.

+1 for this. I'd also suggest that this be configurable, and that it could include some kind of marker other than just a color (for example, options like to bold & italicize the name, or add a "B" icon, etc.)

This is crucial to our Scrum teams so would love this feature to be added so we can get rid of the workarounds!
We use the Agile template and create Issues (Impediments) to represent blockers. We create predecessor links between Issues and the PBIs they block. It would be nice to have a red flag show up on a task card in the task board whenever there is a linked Issue. Clicking on the flag would open the Issue.

I fully support this request to visualize blocked tasks in the board. Our board shows tasks staying idle for no obvious reason and cross checking the board with the sprint backlog wastes time. Alternatives, such as extensions, would be violating our company's policy.

Should be implemented so that a work item tag can be used to mark a work item as blocked.
Need to see a clear visual that the item is blocked!

Definitely a MUST. Since we rarely leave the taskboard, we end up always opening tasks to see if they're blocked instead of going to a specific query...

Highlighting the blocked tasks (e.g. red) would be a huge visual benefit when viewing the sprint task board.
There could also be some visual indication that a story contains blocked tasks.
