Thanks for a great suggestion!
A Visual Studio extension for Markdown is now available for free and can be downloaded here https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/eaab33c3-437b-4918-8354-872dfe5d1bfe
This may be built in to Visual Studio in a future release.

Mike, Noah Richards wrote a VS Gallery extension for markdown support already: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/0855e23e-4c4c-4c82-8b39-24ab5c5a7f79
He provided it as open source as well, so if it doesn't exactly meet your needs you could help improve it.
I do not know if it works in the VS 11 Beta.

Hi Supporters of this item,
We are considering making this available as an option in a future release of Visual Studio.
If this is made available, we expect the feature to need to be optional as there are many who prefer the current keybinding of Ctrl+W to stay as it is.
Thanks

Hells yes! I make this change first thing every time I have a new install of VS.
+1 I switch between light and dark themes in other apps depending on my surrounding lighting all the time on my laptop.
I would like a shortcut to toggle between Light and Dark.
