    This is a great idea! We completely understand how auto-switching SCC providers would help increase your productivity. Although we plan to make this available to you in the near future, we are still in the planning process and may reach out for your feedback as we start to define how tackle this problem.     Storing the source control settings per project/solution have its pitfalls as well. My approach is having the system switching the source control plugin accordingly on presence of hints like the presence of hidden folders like .svn, .git, etc. and it's implemented in the below extension. Unfortunately it doesn't play well when multiple plugins supporting the same source control system are installed (eg. AnkhSVN and VisualSVN), but other than that it works nicely. The extension supports VS2010-VS2017.
