Hey, just to let you know we haven't forgotten about this. Right now, we're rewriting the existing 15 year old C#/VB "project system" over here https://github.com/dotnet/roslyn-project-system. This is a multi-release project but will set us up in the long term to easily tackle big features such as this one.
For example, in the past few months, we've added wildcard support (*.cs) and the ability to edit the project file while it is loaded, as well as automatically "refresh" the project from disk without reloading. In the Visual Studio 2017 timeframe, this will be enabled for .NET Core-based projects but in a future update we'll enable it for all C# and VB projects.
Head over to the Github site if you'd like to get involved in the community.
Rudy, thanks for taking the time to file this - extremely interesting idea, great work on the mock up.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I'd like to get an understanding of what features in the project system that ASP.NET vNext uses do you miss from classic/tranditional ASP.NET/.NET Framework projects?
