Actually, now that I think about it, something which may be an easier task for Microsoft to accomplish and which I would be totally accepting as a compromise, is to replace the existing data table in the string resource editor with an Excel spreadsheet control.
Currently when I copy and past the string resources from that table, I have to copy each individual cell at a time and paste it into a spreadsheet. It would be FAR more convenient and faster to be able to select and copy all filled cells at one and paste them into a spreadsheet.
But right now, if you copy more than one cell at a time in the resource editor, it concatenates the data into one single string, no matter how many cells you select. And that is just too time consuming for my tastes.
So, if you make the cell table in the string resource editor work similar to an Excel spreadsheet (including search and replace, as well as export to Excel spreadsheet functionality) I would be more than happy with the compromise.
I can live with copying and pasting to get my work done - just not sooooooooooooo much as I do at present.
